In 1869, Methodist leaders decided to create a permanent camp meeting spot near the sea, at Ocean Grove, New Jersey. 660 tents once stood on the grounds and later a Great Auditorium was erected at the center of the community. Today the structure holds 7,000 people and hosts worship services, and other types of performances including artists like Johnny Mathis or Kenny Loggins. The auditorium was built in 90 days, in 1894, in honor of the 25th anniversary of Ocean Grove. This video shares more of the backstory of this unique structure. Perhaps New Jersey has been given a bad rep. Have not seen the Long Branch water ever look this clear. You can see the sand and rocks clearly all around. But after thinking about it, in Ocean Grove this morning there were two major viewing differences over my usual Long Branch viewpoint. 1) Long Branch no longer provides the opportunity to view the water from directly above, in the case of this movie, more than 20' off the surfave, giving a wider uniform view. 2) This movie was taken at about 11:00 AM, with the February sun nearly directly overhead. Here the rays of the sun shine directly into the water.
I'd like to add that in the Carribian, the water is clear because it is virtually a desert. Not nearly as much plant and animal life as in the ocean further north.

This is known as Tent City I believe it is located a few blocks away from the towns main street. Very historical very unique.
