Diving in West Palm Beach, FL - Ocean Quest Dive Charter
I went with my dad for his 50th birthday to West Palm Beach to dive.
I have to say that I was very impressed with the ocean life there. This was probably my favorite dive so far!

Diving Singer Island Florida - Sea Turtles, Sharks, and more!
This was my second official ocean dive and one that will go down in the books as incredibly memorable. I teamed up with Pura Vida Divers to promote just how incredible the diving off of Singer Island and West Palm Beach in Florida really is. Scuba Magazine has actually rated this area higher, in 8 out of 9 categories, than the diving off of Florida Keys.
Take a look, and for the full experience, and all the technical aspects of the dive visit:

While this was a sponsored dive with Pura Vida Divers, all information is my own unaltered opinion.
Big thank you to Jen and Ed from Coleman Concierge for hosting me while in Florida as well.

Scuba Diving Blue Heron Bridge in Florida
The old bridge is part of Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach (exit 75, I 95, north of West Palm Beach). It is a popular shore dive for locals, so be sure to arrive early for a picnic at the park there while you wait for slack high tide. You want to enter about 30 minutes before slack high tide, and be sure you bring a bouy surface marker to indicate that you are diving (they actively ticket in this area).
The sandy area may reveal pipefish, filefish, batfish, rays, and octopus. The pilings are home to many juveniles, including queen, blue, french, and gray angels, tiny eels and puffers. Also on the bottom, there is an assortment of gobies and blennies. Arrow crabs, banded coral shrimp, and very small spiny lobsters are pretty common.
Be sure you bring a diving light with a wide beam, it can get pretty dark - between the beams, under the sunken car, and especially if a storm blows in as it did with us. The visibility is very poor if you don't go right during slack high tide, I'm talking 10 feet at best. The dive itself is only about 20-25 feet deep, so be sure to weight down properly as you may have a hard time staying under due to not being at true depth (especially for new divers like me).
There are two dive shops right near the bridge if you forget something, I would recommend Pura Vida Divers.

Scuba Diving West Palm Beach - Breakers Reef - Narcosis
01/22/2015. Scuba diving Breakers Reef off West Palm Beach on the charter Narcosis. 60 to 80 feet deep. Total dive time of 45 minutes. I highly recommend this charter to anyone. They took very good care of us all. Filmed on a GoPro 2 with Dive Housing and Red Lens. Sorry for some shaking, I did not use a mount.
Florida Dive Sites - West Palm Beach
Florida Dive Sites - West Palm Beach
West Palm Beach offers many wreck and reef dives. Due to the strong Gulf stream current, the boat dives are all drift dives which is unique in the sense you don't swim back to the boat after you are done diving, but rather the boat drops you off with a flag or DSMB (delayed surface marker buoy), you drift underwater until you are ready to surface & the boat comes to pick you up.
There are very few shallow dive sites in West Palm Beach which can be an issue for younger divers with their depth limits. PADI Junior Open Water certified divers age 10-11 years old cannot exceed 40 feet (12 meters) & must dive with a professional or a certified parent/guardian. Divers aged 12-14 years old must dive with a certified adult and their maximum depth is 60 feet (18 meters). Since Scuba Kitty is a certified PADI Junior Master Diver, she is restricted to a maximum depth of 70 feet (21 meters) until she turns 15 years old. At 15, the Junior drops off, and she will be able to dive to 100 feet (30 meters). If she gets her Deep Diver Specialty after she turns 15 then the maximum depth goes to 130 feet (40 meters).
Seminole Scuba arranged for a group to go on a two tank boat dive with Narcosis Dive Company in West Palm Beach.Captain Alex and the Narcosis crew were really friendly , helpful & professional. Captain Alex made sure that Scuba Kitty & her Daddy dive buddy were aware that he knew that Scuba Kitty's dive limit was 70 feet. He let them know he would be checking her dive computer to make sure she didn't go beyond her dive limit on the wreck dive portion. Scuba Kitty stayed within her limits at the wrecks & was allowed to to dive the reef for the second dive. We appreciate the safety measures followed as the depth restrictions are there for a reason as the effects of deep dives are unknown on the growing bodies of kids.
This was not Scuba Kitty's first boat dive, but it was her first drift diving experience. She loved floating along and getting to look at the sea life around her with very little exertion. The Narcosis crew did a great job explaining drift diving to avoid getting separated from the group & not swim against the current.

Swamp Diving / Buford Sink Cavern / Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, Florida
Buford Sink is hidden inside Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge in Hernando County, FL and is the second largest Cavern in Florida. Although very difficult to reach the site, it’s well work the effort to dive what many consider the most beautiful cavern in the state. Inconspicuous from the surface, Buford's Cavern zone turns into an enormous ballroom that regularly has over 100 ft of visibility. After finding the location you will have to walk about half a mile from the nearest dirt road, then about a 150 yard difficult climb through the mud swamp with all your gear on. At times, knee deep to waist deep mud to work through. Very easy to get lost in the swamp (we learned the hard way on a previous attempt) here so bring a diver who knows its location and it’s a good idea to use trail marker ribbons.
