UK: QUEEN ATTENDS FILM PREMIERE
English/Nat
Britain's Queen Elizabeth and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, attended the Royal film premiere of the new movie The Parent Trap in London on Monday night - and met the British star of the original version.
The Queen, wearing a full-length golden gown with an embroidered bodice, was introduced to the stars of the Walt Disney film.
Film stars Natasha Richardson, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan were among the first to arrive at the Odeon in London's Leicester Square on Monday night.
Among the other special guests were Hayley Mills, who arrived with her father Sir John Mills to watch the film which stars child star Lindsay Lohan.
But all eyes were on Her majesty the Queen.
She met Richardson, Quaid and Hayley Mills, who starred in the original film The Parent Trap 37 years ago.
Dennis Quaid's film star wife, Meg Ryan, took a back seat to her husband and stood behind him during the Royal line-up.
Quaid and Richardson play the separated parents of twin girls who are reunited by accident.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (A Night At The Odeon - Hammersmith 1975)
December 24, 1975. London’s Hammersmith Odeon. Onstage at this legendary venue, the four members of Queen are bringing to a close a ground-breaking show, transmitted live on BBC TV, and also bringing to a climax the most eventful and exciting year in their careers so far – one that has taken them from the UK to America to Japan, sealing their transition from ambitious upstarts into one of the biggest and most important bands of the era - and beyond.
Forty years later, this groundbreaking show officially takes to the World Stage. On November 20, Queen - A Night At The Odeon - Hammersmith 1975 is released on CD, DVD, SD Blu-Ray, 2 LP vinyl, Super Deluxe Box Set and digitally through Virgin EMI. As well as a live recording of this legendary gig, the packages also include extra-special bonus features for the Queen fans. Featuring 15 tracks from their first four visionary albums, plus covers of four classic rock’n’roll staples delivered with characteristic panache, A Night At The Odeon - Hammersmith 1975 captures a band in full flight and radiating megawatts of self-confidence.
Their latest single Bohemian Rhapsody – universally hailed as one of the most ground-breaking ‘pop’ songs ever released – was in the middle of its record-breaking nine week run at Number One in the UK charts. Their fourth album, A Night At The Opera (the most expensive record ever made to that point) found Queen’s grandiose vision coalescing into a breathtaking set of songs and ushered the band into a seat at rock’s top table (just three days after the concert, A Night At The Opera reached the top of the UK album charts).
The Christmas Eve show was the climax of the 26-date ‘Queen Invite You To A Night At The Opera Tour’, which had begun mid-November and had already seen the band play four nights at the same venue a month earlier. Melody Maker magazine had trumpeted the tour with the words “Britain’s most regal band await your presence”, and the reviews of the previous shows had been ecstatic. By the time the band returned to Hammersmith on Christmas Eve, they were truly firing on all cylinders. No expense had been spared, from the stellar light show which lent a spectacular visual element to the night’s proceedings to the suitably lavish white Bechstein grand piano which had been hired especially for this show. Nor had the band themselves overlooked the finer sartorial details. Freddie Mercury sported two different satin cat suits – one black one white – during the show, designed by Wendy deSmet with the singer’s input. Similarly, Freddie had painted the nails of his left hand black for the occasion, while Brian May had his (at the time) trademark white nails.
With the issue of A Night At The Odeon this legendary show has finally been given the pedestal it deserves, delivered in fitting style, featuring an incredible new audio mix in stereo and 5.1 surround-sound plus an absolute state-of-the-art restoration of the video. As well as audio and visual footage of the gig, the DVD and SD Blu-Ray versions feature two special bonus features – 'Looking Back At The Odeon’, a brand new 22-minute documentary featuring a previously unseen interview with Brian May and Roger Taylor by Old Grey Whistle Test presenter Bob Harris about the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon show, plus the rarely seen Live At The Budokan – Japan 1975 footage, featuring three songs (Now I'm Here, Killer Queen and In The Lap Of The Gods… Revisited) recorded during their legendary tour of the Far East. The Super Deluxe Boxed Set also includes a never-before-heard recording from the pre-show soundcheck – something that no one outside of the band themselves knew existed until now.

Song: Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op.16 -- I Allergro molto moderato
For my Napier University BA TV course, I had to produce a short presentation interview piece to camera for my presenting module where I chose to do my one at the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh.
I first visited the Dominion Cinema Edinburgh premieres when I was younger and more recently having watched the Bond Film, Quantum of Solace.
I really enjoy the Dominion cinemas movies as the comfort of seating and customer service are second to none. I've always been greeted with a friendly smile at the screenings and like to think of this films cinema as my favorite one for things to do for family activities. You can easily each it by using bus.
One of the difficulties prior to filming the piece was gaining access to the cinema for a recce. My solution was to negotiate over the phone with the manager. The exterior of the Dominion caused problems on the shoot despite having undertaken a recce, mostly to do with the camera framing.
The Dominion Cinema Edinburgh United Kingdom is an independent cinema situated in the area South of the City Centre called Morningside whic offers private parties. It's doors first opened on the 31st January, 1938 featuring Shirley Temple in Wee Willie Winkie. It was designed by Edinburgh architect, Thomas Bowhill Gibson between 1937 and 1939 who came up with the Art Moderne style which includes many such features as the ceiling spine in Screen 1 which draws the audience's eyes towards the screen.
The Dominion has a large flat-roofed style architecture with an off-centre stylized advertising tower; steel framed with a brick infill making use of Craighall cast stone and coloured pebble dash cement render. The advertising tower features a projecting clock and sign board.
T. Bowhill Gibbson was Edinburgh's leading cinema designer in the 1930's, the Dominion Edinburgh cinema originally the Embassy was one of the largest and last cinema built in Edinburgh before World War Two with Gibson's other work being lost.
The interior of the British cinema Edinburgh Dominion cinema Morningside auditorium includes seating for 1,375 in stalls and circle levels. The lighting is concealed in ceiling coves where there are decorative Moderne style features on the splay walls beside the proscenium, which was 36 feet wide. The cinema was equipped with a restaurant for the convenience of guests. The interior of the main auditorium is subdivided horizontally and converted as two cinemas and a box office.
The top storey was rendered with a continuous row of windows divided by cast stone mullions.
Over the course of years, the Edinburgh Dominion cinema has been closed on three occasions; in 1972 for twinning where the original circle was fully forward to form Screen 1 where it re-opened on 25th May, 1972 with 584 seats in the former stalls and 2% in the former circle which had been extended forward over the front stalls area.
By Late 1998, a final fourth screen was added to the Edinburgh cinema Dominion with a seating capacity of 60, which was in the former restaurant location. The UK cinema is still open for business today offering audiences four screens. The cinema has been protected as a category B listed building since 30th March, 1993, designated by Historic Scotland.
To this day, the four screen Dominion Cinema is the only independent suburban cinema out of the Edinburgh cinemas. It has been re-seated with luxury leather recliners and is now equipped with Dolby DTS and SR Sound systems.
The Dominion concentrates on providing comfort and style with a 'gold standard' service, including reclining armchairs and complimentary drinks to interest customers, a unique feature of the cinema.

Gaumont Palace/ Odeon - Old cinema in Coventry
Here are some pictures of the Old Gaumont Cinema in Coventry. In its heyday, the cinema used to attract thousands of visitors every week.
The building is now part of Coventry University's School of Art and Design, and instead of people watching films in the building, they are now being made there by our media and performance students.

Alice Cooper live at Odeon Birmingham, England 1986
Alice Cooper's Constrictor tour 1986. Live interview and concert footage from the Odeon theatre, Birmingham during 3/4/5 December 1986.
A memorable show and great looking stage set which saw Alice in top form. Alien Sex Fiend supported Alice.
I worked as a stage technician at the Odeon and was onstage operating a follow spot up a tower on stage right (left of the picture) you can clearly see my beam of light as I followed Alice through the show for 3 consecutive evenings during December 1986. It seems like yesterday.
Great rock and roll days!
