Fun and Learning at Odysseum Children's Science Museum Cologne Germany
#ChildrensMuseum #Odysseum #KidTravelGermany #MyLittleCora
Rainy day trip to the Odysseum a hands-on science and learning center in Cologne, Germany. Cora had so much fun for the entire three hours we spent here. There are three sections to the museum. First was a character experience we tried our hand at making cartoons as well as stop-motion video. Then wandered through the house to learn about how common household items work (favorite was how the train works). There is also a play area in this section with several levels to climb and a slide. Second we entered the history area with dinosaurs and archaeology. The final area was planets and physics. Everywhere offered things to play with while learning about STEM topics.
If you visit: It is easily accessible by bus. There are lockers available to store your bags and jackets, restrooms, and a cafe for lunch and snacks.

Star Wars Identities, Odysseum Museum, Köln, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany - 18th July, 2015
Star Wars Identities is a touring exhibition that combines, costumes, props, characters and behind-the-scenes information about the Star Wars movies, with an interactive character building element, that charts the development of those who visit the exhibition as characters within the Star Wars universe.
The exhibition features many props and mock-ups from the movies, some of which previously toured in the 2000-2001 'Art of Star Wars' exhibition, including a full-sized Pod Racer.
The many characters and costumes featured in the exhibition include Boba Fett, R2-D2, C3PO, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Yoda, Princess Leia, Jabba the Hutt, Luke Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker and many lesser known names and faces (unless of course you live and breath Star Wars). Ships and vehicles include a pod racer, the rebel fleet, a star destroyer, At-Att, Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, A-Wing, Ti-Fighter and Anakin's speeder bike.
This is an excellent exhibition to visit for anyone interested in Star Wars, young or old.

Cologne, a 2,000-year-old city spanning the Rhine River in western Germany, is the region’s cultural hub. A landmark of High Gothic architecture set amid reconstructed old town, the twin-spired Cologne Cathedral is also known for its gilded medieval reliquary and sweeping river views. The adjacent Museum Ludwig showcases 20th-century art, including many masterpieces by Picasso, and the Romano-Germanic Museum houses Roman antiquities.
Cologne is the largest city in the German federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth-largest city in Germany (after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich). Cologne is located within the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, one of the major European metropolitan areas, and with more than ten million inhabitants, the largest in Germany. Cologne is located on both sides of the Rhine River, less than eighty kilometres from Belgium. The city's famous Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is the seat of the Catholic Archbishop of Cologne. The University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln) is one of Europe's oldest and largest universities.
Cologne is a major cultural centre for the Rhineland; it hosts more than thirty museums and hundreds of galleries. Exhibitions range from local ancient Roman archeological sites to contemporary graphics and sculpture. The Cologne Trade Fair hosts a number of trade shows such as Art Cologne, imm Cologne, Gamescom, and the Photokina.
Road building had been a major issue in the 1920s under the leadership of mayor Konrad Adenauer. The first German limited access road was constructed after 1929 between Cologne and Bonn. Cologne has a railway service with Deutsche Bahn InterCity and ICE-trains stopping at Köln Hauptbahnhof (Cologne Main Station), Köln Messe/Deutz and Cologne/Bonn Airport. ICE and TGV Thalys high-speed trains link Cologne with Amsterdam, Brussels (in 1h47, 9 departures/day) and Paris (in 3h14, 6 departures/day). Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln (Ports and Goods traffic Cologne, HGK) is one of the largest operators of inland ports in Germany. Ports include Köln-Deutz, Köln-Godorf, and Köln-Niehl I and II. Cologne's international airport is Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN). It is also called Konrad Adenauer Airport after Germany's first post-war Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who was born in the city and was mayor of Cologne from 1917 until 1933.

Chocolate Museum Cologne Germany - Imhoff-Schokoladenmuseum Köln
#ChocolateMuseum #KidTravelGermany #MyLittleCora
Cologne's Chocolate Museum was one of the highlights of our long weekend vacation in Cologne, Germany. As you approach the museum the smell of chocolate is in the air. Stepping inside from the cold, the first thing we needed to do was visit the cafe for a hot chocolate! It was delightful! Unfortunately it came with a totally unnecessary straw that we were not expecting in a hot drink, will be writing them an email to request they offer straws only on demand (I think it is common in Germany to put straws in children's drinks). After warming up we headed through the museum. When you purchase tickets, you get a chocolate. The history and production of chocolate is wonderfully displayed. There is even an indoor tropical forest, we did not see the chocolate tree growing, but did see banana and papaya (making us miss Hawaii). Then it was on to learn how chocolates are made though a tour of the factory and hand painted hollow figure production. Seeing the care that goes into these chocolates, you can see why they are so expensive, totally worth it though, they both look and taste amazing. In the factory room there is a lovely chocolate fountain, where you can stop for some fresh dipped wafers. Upstairs is more chocolate history and an exhibit of chocolate marketing to include a displays of Kinder toys and a purple Milka cow. After exploring the entire museum we were presented with a small stack of the same chocolates we watch be made before heading out. Last stop was the gift shop, Cora picked out a cute koala chocolate! If you are in Cologne, Germany with kids you'll want to add the Imhoff-Schokoladenmuseum to your itinerary.

The adjacent Museum Ludwig showcases 20th-century art, including many masterpieces by Picasso, and the Romano-Germanic Museum houses Roman antiquities.
Cologne (German: Köln, Ripuarian: Kölle) is situated on the river Rhine, it's the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth largest city in Germany with more than 1.000.000 inhabitants (greater area 3.500.000 inhabitans). In medieval times it was the largest city of the Holy Roman Empire. It is one of the nation's media, tourism and business hotspots. Cologne is known to be one of the most liberal cities in Germany.
The distinctive flavour to the city of Cologne is often linked to the city's inhabitants, or Kölsche, who take an enormous amount of pride in their city. Cologne is a traditionally Ripuarian-speaking city, though this has mostly been replaced by German, which is now the main language of the city. English-speaking guides and information are available for many of the landmarks of the city. For tourists who speak German and wish to practice it, the citizens usually have a lot of patience with those trying to come to grips with the language. Cologne's citizens are very friendly and jovial people, welcoming tourists of all types and with all interests.
Away from the landmarks, workers of the Deutsche Bahn (German railways) often speak English reasonably well, and ticket machines have a language selection feature. In general, older people in Cologne tend to have little or no knowledge of English, while younger Germans and those working in the business world tend to be reasonably proficient. Language is rarely a strong barrier, so this shouldn't be too much of a worry for the average tourist. Just approach a friendly native and use a smile on your face.
Cologne has an excellent public transport network consisting of trams, local trains and buses. Bicycles are also available for hire on the northern side of the Hauptbahnhof. Local transport systems rarely provide announcements in English, but network maps are commonly available to assist with your journey. Those wishing to explore area away from the central city should plan their journey and potential connections before leaving.

Cologne, Germany - Travel with Kids
Cologne is our last leg of our Eurotrip. We were surprised on what this small city can give. They got the very unique and beautiful Kolner Dom. We also experienced the longest shopping strip in Germany which is the Schildergasse. Our hotel, Centro Kommerz, is at the center of the city which makes it very convenient. It’s close to most of the attractions and the famous love lock bridge.
Must try: Merzenich Pretzel. Currywurst
Travel tips: Stay in the center of the city.
