Boater's beach Portage Indiana aerial 2017 this place is pretty well known on the south end of the lake,
On the south end of the Lake, next to a big steel mill is a section of sand that is just wonderful. Only accessible by boat as well, which is perfect. This is also next to an area called Dune Acres. Basically just East of this is Indiana State Park and Indiana Dunes Lake shore. This just an awesome place to swim because Of the warm water discharge everyone uses for a nice heated lazy river.

2008 Ogden Dunes Beach Storm
In September 2008 several weather events caused flooding in Northwest Indiana resulting in a massive amount of debris dumped on Ogden Dunes' beach along Lake Michigan. The town's residents rallied together to clean up the beach and restore their community. This presentation by Dan Manas recounting these events was held by the Historical Society of Ogden Dunes on May 26, 2019.

A wildfire started just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at West Beach, part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in Portage. The fire consumed about 54 acres of land. This video was taken by Eric Kurtz, fire chief of the Ogden Dunes Fire Department.
