Wet 'n' Wild Hawaii
Our first visit to the Wet 'n' Wild Hawaii water park in Kapolei since it was rebranded from Hawaiian Waters. This was going to be a much longer video, but it wasn't long before my Kodak Zi6 got wet. The screen went white, the speaker started shrieking, and I had to take out the batteries to turn it off. Fortunately, the next morning, the camera was fine again.
KĀKOU – Hawai‘i’s Town Hall The Global Squeeze: How Do We Keep Hawaiʻi Hawaiʻi? | Program
In our second live town hall, we pause to consider where we are, and where we want to be. Change is inevitable. Some changes come quietly, incrementally, over years; others seem to emerge all of a sudden and nearly full-blown. How is Hawai‘i changing – for better, for worse, or both?
This is not a conversation about major controversial events that have been dividing our community. This is not a conversation about pro-this, or anti-that. This is a discussion about the finer details of life in Hawai‘i that affect our sense of place. What details compromise the core essence of Hawai‘i – and where are we willing to draw the line?
We’ve invited 40 individuals from across the state to participate in this frank, respectful and community-based discussion in our studio. We invite you to join the conversation through email and social media, using the hashtag #pbskakou.

Hawaii Wisdom Project presents Tom Pohaku Stone
The Hawaii Wisdom Project is a documentary in which we interview Hawaii’s most influential leaders and ask their advice on success. The purpose of the film is to enlighten and motivate Hawaii’s youth to strive for success by allowing them the opportunity to meet some of the most powerful and inspiring members of the local community.
In this webisode, we interview the legendary native Hawaiian surfer and waterman, Tom Pohaku Stone. He has been on a life long journey in search of his cultural heritage and through his career as a pro surfer, Pohaku, searches for clarity and unity between his pride as a waterman and what he deeply feels should be his pride as a Hawaiian. Using his love of he'e nalu (surfing) and his culture as a focal point Pohaku has spent the last ten years at the University of Hawaii , gaining his masters degree in Pacific Island Studies, specializing in ancient Hawaiian sports. He is credited with single handedly revitalizing the sport of he'e holua (Hawaiian sledding), a centuries old extreme sport, and for the past several years he has been sharing his knowledge and his aloha as a teacher and craftsman, instructing students in the arts of sled building and ancient surf board carving. He also hand crafts surfboards and holua sleds using traditional Hawaiian methods and designs.
