The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art - What is it?
There have been many rumors on what they're keeping in those spaceship-shaped buildings over on Beach Blvd in Biloxi. But the truth is that they hold the Mississippi Gulf Coast's premier art museum. The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art focuses on the ceramic art of Mad Potter of Biloxi, George Ohr but its scope aims to highlight regional artists of any medium in the Southeastern United States, as well as providing historical and cultural exhibits such as the Pleasant Reed Interpretive Center. The museum is comprised of multiple gallery buildings, beautiful architecture by renowned architect Frank Gehry, a world-class ceramics studio offering classes from youth to professional levels, and an event and wedding venue that makes for a gorgeous backdrop for events of all kinds. Become a member today and take advantage of everything that this beautiful campus and community have to offer!

Great Families of the Gulf Coast
The Great Families of the Gulf Coast Campaign will fund the completion of one of the gallery pods located in the John S. and James L. Knight Pod Pavilion. The Frank Gehry designed pavilion houses four pods, though only one is currently fully operational. The completion of the campus, which began reconstruction in 2008 after Hurricane Katrina, will allow OOMA to continue serving the community through compelling exhibitions and educational experiences for both children and adults.
This exciting initiative also seeks to build a stronger bond between the museum and the families of the Gulf Coast. Participation in the campaign will serve as a means to connect families with their community while also building a legacy for future generations.
Throw & Tell with John Oles
Throw & Tell is a series of educational demonstrations spotlighting the best artists in ceramics. The series takes place monthly in the pottery studio in the City of Biloxi Center for Ceramics at the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art.
John Oles has an MFA in ceramics from Tulane University and currently works as Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL. From his artist statement on jolesart.com:
As a maker of objects, I believe that truth and insight into our own human nature can be revealed to us through the practice and process of creating with our hands. I believe in the power of the handmade object to communicate with people, on a subconscious level, the fragility and intimacy of the temporal moment.
NOTE: We're aware of the audio issues with the video. Toward the latter part of the video you can understand a bit more of John's speech. We're working with limited means being a non-profit. If you'd like to help us get some good audio equipment, we'd love some help! Thanks for understanding.
