The buildings in these street were properly constructed during the early Republican era; which is between the 1911-1945. The are partly Western style inspired and partly modern design, meaning it is neither west or east, but modern design emphasize simple and convenience. The city of Guangzhou is fill with these historical street, hope they preserve them as they play an important role in distinguish Guangzhou with the rest of the major Chinese city; this is a city with proud Cantonese history.

人民南路，曾是广州最繁华热闹的商业中心，如今没落不复当初的繁华，有人说败给了高架桥，有人说败给了时代，哪个观点才是正确的呢？听听芒果的分析。
人民南路位于广州老城区越秀区，南至珠江边，曾经是广州最繁华的商业中心，诞生了广州的第一个地下商场、第一座过街人行天桥。
据说在七八九十年代，人民南路游客如织，这里有百货商场、广州特色美食、旅游酒店、文化用品等等，是广州最繁华的商业中心，也是最受外地游客欢迎的商业街。图为人民南路上的曾经非常出名的广州文化公园，很多名人都曾到过此地。
图为人民南路的状元坊，曾经是广州无人不知的内街道，游客多时一条几百米的街道要走上一两个小时，如今很多店铺都关门了，行人寥寥。
人民南路是典型的骑楼建筑，靠近珠江一段遍布酒店，曾经是最受外地游客或出差的商人欢迎的酒店，如今看起来有些陈旧了，但精致的骑楼建筑依稀可以想象当初的繁华。
为什么曾经是广州最繁华的商业中心，如今却成为老广州人的回忆呢？有人说是败给了高架桥。如图，曾经宽阔的马路上横架了一座高大的高架桥。
为什么说人民南败于高架桥呢？有人说，一是挡住了两边酒店、商铺的光线，二是让空间变得狭窄，三是视线受阻让人感觉压抑。还有人说破坏了风水。
网友举例，比如曾经是“南华第一楼”、广州最豪华的新亚酒店，建了高架桥后，住客推开窗户就是高架桥，晚上休息车辆一过不止噪音大，还会感觉楼房震动，渐渐地也便没有多少人愿意住在这里了。
当然也有网友不同意这种观点，他们觉得人民南路的没落是时代发展的必然，随着广州城中心转移，新中轴线上建起更现代化更豪华更舒适的百货商城，商业圈自然也逐渐转移，老城区的商业中心自然渐渐没落了。
所以，持后者观点的网友说，人民南不是败给了高架桥而是败给了时代，不止广州，相信北京、上海、深圳等等城市都有类似的现象，新的城市中心取代旧的城市中心，旧城也便渐渐成为了回忆。
我想，高架桥对一条商业街肯定是有影响的，但时代发展也是客观因素，所以人民南路是败给了高架桥和时代。
虽然人民南路繁华不再，但这里却是很多老广州人的回忆，依然保留着很多本地特色美食小吃如肠粉、粥等，如有时间，不妨去体验下老广州的味道。

Kouang-Tchéou-Wan 廣州灣 [1898-1946]
廣州灣(Kouang Tchéou Wan)，別稱「港城」，是廣東湛江的舊稱。位於廣東雷州半島東北，範圍約等於今廣東湛江市中心城區。法國人稱為Fort-Bayard(白瓦特城)
一八九九年十一月法國與大清帝國政府簽訂的《中法互訂廣州灣租界條約》租借之土地，租期為九十九年。條約將雷州府遂溪縣、高州府吳川縣兩縣所屬部分陸地、島嶼以及兩縣間的麻斜海灣(今湛江港)劃為法國領土，統稱「Kouang-Tchéou-Wan 廣州灣」，劃入法屬印度支那 (Indochine française) 聯邦範圍，設廣州灣行政總公使署，受法國印度支那總督(Gouverneur général de l'Indochine française) 管轄。
一九四三年, 日本侵佔。
一九四五年九月十一日，中華民國政府收回廣州灣主權，其後改名為湛江市。

曹綺文 (Tso Yi Man，1918年 - 1948年11月20日)，籍貫：廣東省台山縣，曾經為小學教師，後來加盟趙樹燊先生的「大觀聲片公司」，銀幕處女作為《大傻出城》(1935年)。中華民國念八年(1939年)赴美國伊利諾州芝加哥演出時，在宴會上認識美國華僑梅友卓，與他在太平洋戰爭後的中華民國卅五年(1946年)在香港婚姻註冊署登記結婚，並在美國渡蜜月後回港，居住於九龍太子道362號四樓，與她的丈夫梅友卓合資經營自設攝影場的九龍城「友僑影業公司」及一間汽車入口商行。中華民國卅七年(1948年)3月，隨有「美洲華僑國大代表」身份的丈夫梅友卓，到中華民國首都南京參加國民代表大會；她的胞弟曹達華亦是香港電影演員。中華民國卅七年(1948年)11月20日(星期一)早上7時30分，因為過度疲勞引致惡性肺炎，在九龍聖德肋撒醫院(法國醫院)病逝，彌留時，丈夫梅友卓及胞弟曹達華均在她身旁，享齡30歲。遺作是《天下婦人心》(1948年，飾演郭慧珠)，一生參演約廿多齣電影。中華民國卅七年(1948年)11月21日(星期日)下午2時出殯，200多人出席，電影圈計有：吳楚帆、黃曼梨、莫康時、張活游、林坤山、陸小仙(小瑤仙)、劉桂康、李清、鄔麗珠、胡鵬、龍圖、覃子秋、檸檬、邵邨仁、馬笑英、秦劍、謝益之、葉全華、林甦、張瑛、鄧美美、任彭年、盧敦、李綺年、珠璣、「半開玫瑰」黃笑罄、黃壽年、葉仁甫、林小妹、陳皮、蘇怡、鄺山笑、馮應湘(Billy Fung)、林家聲、姚萍、藍夜(林國珍)；梅芳中學：吳敏墀校長；國民黨部書記長黃令駒。曹綺文遺體在九龍聖德肋撒醫院(法國醫院)出發，安葬新界荃灣華人永遠墳場。
