Visiting the Okinawan Prefectural Building and Congress and the Okinawan Prefectural Museum.
Today we went down to the Okinawan Prefectural Government building where we got a nice tour of the building and also had a welcome speech by the President of the HUOA (Hawaii United Okinawa Association) and also the lieutenant governor of Okinawa. Then after lunch in the lobby on the first floor, they had a mini-concert and then we went on the bus to go to the Okinawa Prefectural Museum. Later that night I went out with my relatives for dinner.

In this movie, we aim to clarity the value of “Okinawa Aka-gawara Red Roof Tile” (Trademark Reg. No. 5205201) as a regional brand, which is one of the regional collective trademarks, by reviewing and organizing the various perspectives of the makers, users and researchers.
●About Okinawa “Aka-gawara” Red Roof Tiles
Okinawa “aka-gawara” is a traditional roof tile made and used in Okinawa since the seventeenth century. This red unglazed roof tile is made of a raw material called “kucha”- a mudstone which is unique to Okinawa, and these roof tiles have became the identity of Okinawa’s traditional landscape.
During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, Okinawa “aka-gawara” red roof tiles were only allowed to be used for royal establishments, but in 1889 after the kingdom fell and became Okinawa Prefecture of Japan, the use of Okinawa red roof tiles were opened for the public. Nowadays, they are used widely for cultural heritages, public institutions and schools, hotels and resorts, business establishments and regular housing.
The makers of continuously challenging to preserve and pass down the traditional material and technique, while innovating new techniques and shapes to suit the modern needs, in order to protect the landscape and identity of Okinawa.

Shirumichu シルミチュー in Okinawa, Japan
Shirumichu シルミチュー is a cave located in the forest of south southeast Hamahiga jima. It is said that this place is where the Gods of the Ryukyus, Shirumichu and Amaichu, lived at the beginning of time.
It is at this place, around New Years, that noros (Okinawan Priestesses) come to pay their respects and pray. They often do this by brining small stones from the beach and placing them in a pot inside the cave. As you can see in the video below it seems that the tradition continues today.
This cave is also known to house a stone known as the female stone or fertility stone. Women and couples often visit the cave to pray for fertility.
The cave was designated a sacred site by the Japanese Government around 1918.
Chuu uganabira! My name is Kathryn and I have been living on the beautiful island of Okinawa for almost a decade. I spend most of my time immersing myself in the culture, learning about the history of the island and way of life past and present. In 2011 I decided to start sharing my experiences here on YouTube to offer newcomers and those interested in the island the perspective of someone who has been living here long term. ABOUT CAVES:
Always approach caves with a great deal of care and respect. Not only are caves dangerous for obvious reasons (critters, tripping hazards and unexploded ordinance) but any given cave could have been used as a shelter during WWII, prayer site or grave.
DO NOT enter caves that have been blocked off.
DO NOT enter caves that are marked with Do Not Enter signs.
DO NOT enter caves while others are worshiping (just wait them out and return back later if necessary).

Daiko Drivers in Okinawa
Okinawa is both a driving culture and a drinking culture. It has long had the highest rate of drunk driving accidents in Japan. So businesses and government regulators have sculpted a cut-rate taxi system to ensure that people who drink too much can get home safely. It's called Daiko. It lets people hire professional drivers to bring them and their cars home.
JAPAN OKINAWA CRUISE & PEACE MEMORIAL PARK // VLOG#105日本 沖縄本島 沖縄島
We board the largest cruise ship we've ever been on, Royal Caribbean's Ovation of the Seas headed for Singapore via Okinawa Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.
Our first port is Okinawa Japan a place I've always dreamed of visiting since my Grandfather fought there in World War II.
Even thought we don't speak Japanese, the city buses in Okinawa Japan are really easy to use and we do a walk through for you.
We spend the entire day getting to and visiting Peace Memorial Park where the names of all souls lost during WWII are inscribed. Very powerful for me and a beautiful site that is very well maintained by the government of Japan.
This ship is really beautiful and is also the newest ship we've been on. One of the downsides of a newer ship is the MOUNTAIN of non stop technical problems that never seemed to get fixed. Still a beautiful ship, hope they get it figured out soon because the crew was amazing!

Shurijo (Shuri Castle 首里城), Naha, Okinawa
#Shurijo or #Shuri #Castle (#首里城) is a historial landmark in #Naha, #Okinawa, #Japan. The original date of construction of this royal palace castle is unclear but historical evidence shows it served as the royal palace by the rulers of the Ryukyu Kingdom (琉球國, 1429–1879).
The castle was flattened in early 1945 during the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, the ground was turned into a university campus.
Beginning in 1992, the central citadel and walls were largely reconstructed on the original site based on historical records, photographs, and memory.
On Thursday, October 31, 2019, large parts of Shuri Castle including the three main buildings in the main courtyard were destroyed by fire. The cause of the first is still under investigation as of November 2, 2019. The national government has vowed to rebuild the destroyed buildings.
This video only shows you the exterior and surroundings of the castle due to the park's ban on photogarphing the inside of the buildings. You may find a few photos showing the inside of some of the buildings at
