The Old Customs House In Bangkok
This is Bangkok's original custom's house - which is lying abandoned on the side of the city's river. The stunning neo-classical property was built in 1888 and levied taxes on traders moving in and out of the kingdom along the Chao Phraya river. Designed by Austrian-Italian architect Joachim Grassi, it was inspired by the beautiful homes in the Italian countryside. However, customs operations have long been modernised and today the building stands empty and crumbling. Local officials have made some efforts to renovate the building and preserve it's heritage, while there has also been big money offers from developers who would like to transform it into a hotel or knock it down to build a shopping mall or apartment block. Thailand's Treasury Department confirmed in 2017 that the project to turn the old Custom's House into an Aman Resorts hotel would go ahead under Natural Park's successor, the U City company.

BANGKOK'S OLD FIRE STATION | Bang Rak Fire Station (The Old Customs House), Bangkok, Thailand
This is an old fire station in Bangkok's Bang Rak district. It used to be Bangkok's Old Customs House. Until it turned into a fire station, which has now been abandoned.
Many people would come to this old fire station to take wedding photos or just photos in general, due to the old picturesque looking building, inside and out.
But as you can see they have now barricaded all the entrances to the building as it has become a dangerous hazard for people to go inside. As everything is deteriorating.
It's a shame though, cause inside looks just as amazing as the outside, if not better.
You can find pictures of the inside of the first station on the internet. Just google Bang Rak Fire Station and there should be plenty of photos that people have taken inside before they banned people from entering the fire station.
But it's still great to have a walk around the outside of this building and marvel at what's left.

The Old Customs House is a paradigmatic example of gentrification whereby a local community is being transplanted because of rising land values, as this 137 years old public building is soon being renovated into a private six-star hotel. The hierarchical urban zoning and allocation map of Bangkok, concentric and centralized around the ChaoPhraya river, accelerates the rate of urban renewal in a radial pattern, as the rate of development decreases proportionally to the distance from the river. Bangkok is again, losing its authentic identity, an accessible river-front public space, and a historical and cultural reference of the city itself. Can there be another approach whereby the building incorporates economic factors of urban renewal but remains relevant for the local community as well?
This project is envisioning an alternative political framework for gentrification, using The Old Customs House as a concrete example. I would like to propose an urban intervention: the Special Exclusion Zone; a democratized, non-hierarchical zoning policy. These networks of liberated area serves as strategic hubs for an integral development between local commercial activity, authentic-cultural identity, and environmental recreation along with an accessible public space for the contemporary urban context, while all corporate commercial activity inside the defined area must be dislocated. The new policy aims to promote the distribution of urban centrality, shifting from concentric development around Commercial districts, to distributed programmed-public spaces; a conservation of accessible open spaces, and a non-specific preservation of urban heritage. The regulation engages with all three stakeholders of urban renewal: Government authorities, Public citizens, and Local Communities, through a balanced approach respecting a symbiotic-relationship between Economical, Social and Cultural, and Environmental development.
In this alternative vision, The Old Customs House is A Museum of the Present, an urban catalyst of a sustainable de-gentrification.

Lucky Home is a second hand warehouse that sells quality Japanese goods. They've got everything from second hand shoes, clothing, bags, laser disc movies, vinyl records and more.
But what they are know for is their huge selection of second hand cameras. They've literally got 10,000's and 100,000's of old cameras. Which makes them the biggest camera warehouse in Thailand, if not the world.
You will be amazed by the huge selection of old cameras they have there. They've probably got every single camera that has ever been invented there. No exaggeration.
It almost feels like a camera museum. Even I was surprised. Not only by the sheer amount of cameras there was, but the array of old selection of cameras they have. You definitely get a sense of nostalgia.
This place is a must visit if you're a photographer or a camera lover.
