история строительства новосибирского театра оперы и баллета
1932 - 1945
Here I present a photographic history of the construction of the Novosibirsk State Opera & Ballet Theatre.
The theatre is one of the most important theatres in Sibera and is located n the centre of Novosibirsk on Lenin Square.
Work began in 1932 with the clearance of a large area of the centre of the old city. and was completed in February 1944. The first performance was held on the 12 May 1945. As of the time of this video, the theatre is the largest in all of Russia ( even beating the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow). The theatre is often called the Siberian Coliseum because of its size and beauty. The auditorium seats more than 1,790 spectators. Its upper gallery is decorated with copies of antique Greek statues. The central dome is 60 m (200ft) wide and 35 m (115ft) high. The dome is a unique construction that supports itself without girders or columns. In front of the dome there is a large foyer, whilst behind it there is a 30 m (98ft) deep stage......
Music is by Prokofiev - Adagio, Op. 97 firming part of 10 pieces from Cinderella

We Climbed To The Top Of Moscow's Tallest Buildings (HBO)
This segment originally aired Oct. 21, 2016, on VICE News Tonight on HBO.
Russian “roofers” climb to dizzying heights to capture the perfect selfie, becoming internet celebrities along the way. But roofing isn’t just about danger and adrenaline, Kirill Vselensky told VICE News correspondent Gianna Toboni. “It’s a way to have adventure without leaving the city.”
Some of Vselensky’s more than 50,000 Instagram followers now pay him for tours, and corporate sponsors are starting to fund even wilder stunts. “It’s my main source of income,” he said.
When he’s traveling, Vselensky roofs to learn about a new city from an aerial perspective. “I was in Istanbul where we climbed the Blue Mosque, and in Cairo I climbed the Egyptian pyramids,” he added.

Exploring Russian ballet
Ballet has long been a source of national pride for the people of Russia. The art form itself is woven into Russian history, and the country has produced some of the world's most famous dancers. Despite the fact that most ballet dancers finish their careers by their late thirties and very few reach the top, thousands of children dream of making it onto the stage. TRT World correspondent Julia Lyubova met a few of them.

Aram Khachaturian - Spartacus [HD]
Aram Khachaturian - Spartacus [HD]
Spartacus is a ballet by Aram Khachaturian (1903–1978). The work follows the exploits of Spartacus, the leader of the slave uprising against the Romans known as the Third Servile War, although the ballet's storyline takes considerable liberties with the historical record. Khachaturian composed Spartacus in 1954, and was awarded a Lenin Prize for the composition that same year. It was first staged, with choreography by Leonid Yakobson, in Leningrad 1956,[2] but only with qualified success since Yakobson abandoned conventional pointe in his choreography.[3] The ballet received its first staging at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow in 1958, choreographed by Igor Moiseyev; however it was the 1968 production, choreographed by Yury Grigorovich, which achieved the greatest acclaim for the ballet. It remains one of Khachaturian's best known works and is prominent within the repertoires of the Bolshoi Theatre and other ballet companies in Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Protest against St Petersburg cathedral handover
(12 Jan 2017) In the latest scandal involving the powerful Russian Orthodox Church, authorities in St. Petersburg on Thursday defended a controversial decision to give a city landmark cathedral to the church.
Museum experts and locals in Russia's former imperial capital were rattled by the governor's announcement this week that he was transferring St. Isaac's Cathedral to the church.
An online petition against the decision had tens of thousands of signatures by Thursday.
The neoclassical church, completed in the 19th century, has been an important museum since Russia's 1917 Bolshevik Revolution and is now the city's third most visited site.
Some museum experts are concerned that the Orthodox Church will neglect its exhibits, which include a rare Foucault pendulum.
Mikhail Mokretsov, deputy governor of Russia's second-largest city, on Thursday vowed that the city hall will make sure that tourists get unfettered access to the site.
He said the city will retain its ownership of the cathedral and will shoulder maintenance costs while the church will get operational rights.
The Church says that visitors will not even notice the difference when the church begins to operate St. Isaac's.
But opposition St. Petersburg legislative council deputy Boris Vishnevsky said the move meant taxpayers were forking out for the Russian Orthodox Church to take 'donations', that were in turn tax-free.
Why do they have to pay for the maintenance of a cathedral which will belong to the Russian Orthodox Church?, he said.
Although St. Isaac's was built as an Orthodox cathedral, it has always owned by the government except for a brief period.
Opposition lawmakers and activists plan to protest on Friday against the decision, which they see as part of a growing trend toward social conservatism in Russia.
The Russian Orthodox Church has played an active part in President Vladimir Putin's efforts to consolidate Russian society by appealing to traditional values as opposed to Western liberalism.
The church's attempts to expand its influence have sometimes caused controversy, however.
On Wednesday, a senior Orthodox cleric in Siberia, the Metropolitan of Novosibirsk, Tikhon, lashed out at the local opera and ballet theatre for staging the classic Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, which he insisted was based on an occult subject.
In 2015, Tikhon protested against Wagner's opera Tannhauser.
Several months later the Russian culture minister fired the theatre's director and the opera was removed from the theatre's repertoire.
