The Brandenburg Gate lies in splendor just north of the Old Market Square in the northeast city of Potsdam, Germany.
Construction of the elegant monument, featuring Roman arches and Corinthian columns, concluded in 1770.
Each of the two sides of this gate reflects the two architects who designed the magnificent structure, and as such are markedly different in appearance.
After passing through the gate and following a straight trajectory, visitors will find the lovely Church of St. Peter and Paul.
Originally, before the town found itself significantly expanded, the gate separated Potsdam's inner city from the, then, countryside.
This monument and its specific design was commissioned and overseen by King Frederick the second himself, giving it prominent historical significance.

St. Nicholas' Church in Potsdam is a Lutheran church under the Evangelical Church in Berlin, Brandenburg and Silesian Upper Lusatia of the Evangelical Church in Germany on the Old Market Square in Potsdam. The central plan building in the Classicist style and dedicated to Saint Nicholas was built to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the years 1830 to 1837.
The tambour of the 77 metre high church that towers above the roofs of the city was built later, from 1843 to 1850. Its construction was taken over by Ludwig Persius and, from 1845, Friedrich August Stüler.
Towards the end of the Second World War, the church was hit during the air raid on Potsdam and subsequently badly damaged by Soviet artillery fire. After many years of rebuilding the church was re-consecrated in 1981 by the Evangelical Parish of St. Nicholas, Potsdam, and, today, is open to visitors. In addition to the normal church services, concert events are also held in the church.

Potsdam is a city on the border of Berlin, Germany. Sanssouci Palace was once the summer home of Frederick the Great, former King of Prussia. On the grounds of the complex, the Renaissance Orangery Palace overlooks Italian-style gardens with fountains. Historic Mill offers city views. English gardens surround neoclassical Charlottenhof Palace. The 19th-century Roman Baths were built in several architectural styles.
Potsdam, on the Havel River just 25km southwest of central Berlin, is the capital and crown jewel of the federal state of Brandenburg. Easily reached by S-Bahn, the former Prussian royal seat is the most popular day trip from Berlin, luring visitors with its splendid gardens and palaces, which garnered Unesco World Heritage status in 1990. Headlining the roll call of royal pads is Schloss Sanssouci, the private retreat of King Friedrich II (Frederick the Great), who was also the mastermind behind many of Potsdam's other fabulous parks and palaces. Miraculously, most survived WWII with nary a shrapnel wound. When the shooting stopped, the Allies chose Schloss Cecilienhof to host the Potsdam Conference of 1945 to lay the groundwork for Germany’s post-war fate.
Potsdam was the capital of Brandeburg and later Prussia, until it was replaced by Berlin. It was still used as a residence for the kings of Prussia when they wanted to get away from the big-city trouble (and potential rabble-rousers) in Berlin, and in a way it still has a similar function, as many well-to-do people from Berlin have either moved here or have bought a second residence here since reunification in 1990. Potsdam also serves as the capital of the Bundesland of Brandenburg, after an attempt to reunite Berlin and Brandenburg in a single Bundesland failed in the early 90s.
For most of its recent history Potsdam has not been accessible from the former West Berlin. The last station before the former GDR was Wannsee. Many of the buildings that are visible today have been reconstructed after the bombings of the Second World War and after the lax care of the East German Government. The city as we see it today is the work of five architects (After the Great Elector said: Das ganze Eyland muß ein Paradies werden [The whole island must become a paradise]): Peter Joseph Lenné, Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff, Carl Phillipp Christian von Gontard, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Friedrich Ludwig Persius, and of course King Frederick the Great and Emperor Wilhelm II.
Most attractions in the city are UNESCO World Heritage sites: Sanssouci Park and the Crown estate of Bornstedt, The New Garden (including the Pfingstberg and the Russian colony of Alxandrowka), Babelsberg Park and Sacrow Park. The suburb Babelsberg is home to the Media City Babelsberg (Medienstadt Babelsberg), an area joining movie and media people together. The film studio Babelsberg, the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg and other schools, radio and TV stations, a museum and an archive, an amusement park and much more is located there.

Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Gendarmenmarkt
Places to see in ( Berlin - Germany ) Gendarmenmarkt
The most beautiful square in Berlin? The most beautiful north of the Alps? Take a look for yourself at Gendarmenmarkt. Once, soldiers matched here, but today Berliners and tourists stroll across the square. It’s said to be the most beautiful public square in Berlin, and perhaps the most beautiful north of the Alps. The ensemble of the concert house and two church buildings embellished with towers is in perfect harmony. In summer, orchestras play the most beautiful classical melodies at the Classic Open Air, and in winter the square transforms into a winter wonderland with a Christmas market.
The Friedrichstadt quarter was built by Friedrich I at the end of the 17th century according to plans by Johann Arnold Nering. Its main residents were Huguenot refugees from France, which is why the French Protestant community was given one church on the square, and the Lutheran congregation the other. The square got its name from the “Gens d’armes” cuirassier regiment, whose stables there were demolished by Friedrich II. Between the two churches, a new theatre, now known as the Konzerthaus Berlin, was built.
Right in the middle of the square, in front of the Konzerthaus, is a statue of the poet Friedrich Schiller. It was not until twelve years after the foundation stone was laid that the monument was unveiled. After the Second World War, the square lay in ruins. In the 1970s, the East Berlin government had it rebuilt in its current form. Having been renamed Platz der Akademie in 1950, Gendarmenmarkt got its old name back in 1991 after reunification.
Gendarmenmarkt took on its current form under Friedrich II – with a harmonious architectural ensemble planned by Georg Christian Unger. Carl von Gontard embellished both the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche and the Lutheran church with almost over-dimensioned domed towers. Although the towers are called the Deutscher Dom and the Französischer Dom (“Dom” means “cathedral” in German), they are not churches. They are simply called that after the French word for a dome.
The Deutscher Dom now houses the Bundestag’s exhibition on German parliamentary history Milestones – Setbacks – Sidetracks. The Path to Parliamentary Democracy in Germany. The Französischer Dom contains the Huguenot Museum. The lower part of the building is still the Französische Friedrichstadtkirche.
The poet E.T.A. Hoffmann once lived here, and he recorded city life in his story My Cousin’s Corner Window. He liked to spend his time in the Lutter & Wegner wine tavern, where his actor friend Ludwig Devrient is said to have unintentionally invented the German word for sparkling wine, “Sekt”. Today, the wine tavern is only two street corners away from the original building.

GERMANY: EXPLORING the magnificent GARDENS, the PALACE OF WÜRZBURG ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the Würzburg Residenz Palace is generally considered the purest and most remarkable of all baroque palaces in Germany. Built between 1720 and 1744 and enhanced by the magnificent gardens between 1765 and 1780, it exemplifies a glittering era and is one of the most spectacular royal palaces in Europe. In this video we are going to concentrate on the Palace's court gardens which are no less opulent in their beauty than the palace itself. The gardens and the Palace are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.
Würzburg is a city in Germany's Bavaria region. It's known for lavish baroque and rococo architecture, particularly the 18th-century Residenz palace, with ornate rooms, a huge fresco by Venetian artist Tiepolo and an elaborate staircase. Berlin walk Hauptbahnhof Station ???????? [4K] 2020 Germany
Berlin Hauptbahnhof: the Berlin Central Train Station opened in 2006 as the largest and most modern connecting station in Europe. This station has countless conveniences for travelers including a suspension system for its platforms, greatly reducing vibration and noise. There are two main levels for train traffic and three connection and business levels.
The station is delicate, spacious and full of light. The 321 metre long glass hall for rails running east to west is crossed by the 160 metre long and 40 metre wide concourse where rails are running north to south. A sophisticated system of large openings in the ceilings at all levels allows for natural light to be let in so that it can even reach the lower tracks.

It has a magnificent city center which has Europe's longest shopping street. You have breathtaking views of green hills all around the city. This city, thankfully, survived the 2nd World War.
This is only a must-see compilation for your city tour. This city has a lot more to offer!
Recommended stay: At least 1 day
You can walk around the city on foot easily. Do carry some snacks and a water bottle with you!

Berlin - Day 3 - Potsdam
Potsdam is a city on the border of Berlin - about 35 km away and easy to reach with the trains. It’s a perfect day trip to tag on to a holiday in Berlin. 2 main highlights: Sanssouci Park and the Old Market Square. Sanssouci Park is huge and houses numerous palaces, schloss, windmill and gardens. The Old Market Square is located downtown with a number of historic buildings. Don’t miss climbing up St. Nicholas’ church for a great view over Potsdam.
Having spent 6 days in Berlin, we found that we really like the place - alot. If you like art, history or exhibitions, you will love Berlin. It has 170 museums! With a 3-day museum pass, you will get to visit 30 of the best ones for only €29. The city has a number of beautiful historical buildings and easy to get around on foot or use the efficient transport system of rail, underground, trams and buses. A visit to the Berlin wall is a ‘must-see’ - the part of the wall on East Side Gallery is 1.3 km long and is beautifully sprayed painted with street art by various people. We also enjoyed a day trip to nearby Potsdam (35 km away, easily accessible via rail) which is full of palaces, schlosses and gardens. It was a summer retreat of Frederick the Great, the former king of Prussia. Click on these links to see our holiday snaps:
