Old Plank Road Trail (Eastbound) Greenbush to Sheboygan, WI - Part 1
The Old Plank Road Trail runs from the Township of Greenbush east roughly 17 miles to the Kohler Erie Avenue Trailhead. The terrain varies from flat to gently rolling with one large climb or descent near County Highway S just east of Greenbush. The Old Plank Road Trail was one of the first trails in the nation to share the right-of-way with a 4-lane divided highway. The first sections of the trail were built in the late 1970's with the most recent sections having been added in the early 2000's. As State Highway 23's four lanes are extended west to Fond du Lac, it is the County's intent to extend the Old Plank Road Trail west until the Fond du Lac County line. The entire length of the trail from I43 to STH 57 (approximately 9 miles) has received new pavement since 2008 with the most recent project finishing in 2013.
The trail is shared by a variety of users including cyclists, walkers, joggers, mopeders, equestrians as well as snowmobilers in the winter months. There are four trailheads along the route. Enjoy the many points of interest along the trail as well!

Ahnapee Trail Ride Easter Weekend
This video is from our bicycle ride on the Ahnapee State Trail--Saturday, April 19th. The ride was from 4 miles W. of Kewaunee Casco, Wisconsin--about 20 miles round trip. The Ahnapee River runs south from Door Co. to Kewaunee, and into Lake Michigan. Ahnapee comes from the Ojiwa word--Aanapii--which means 'when?' We saw 4 Sandhill Cranes (2 filmed), 2 Great Blue Herons, lots of ducks & geese and a black bear!
Ahnapee Trail At The Ahnapee River
I went to see what was left of the original railroad bridge that spanned the Ahnapee river near Algoma Wisconsin. A washout took care of the original structure the new trail bridge has its own footings. I did make a short clip of the original bridge piers. Video also includes mutiple views of the old right-of-way and the Ahnapee River. OK, that said, this Rail History video could also be described as a Nature video, or a Trail Information video. This location is really a gorgeous place to enjoy! I got up there just after a downpour and the video clips look very good. (100% humidity melted me into a giant sweatball and the camera lens kept fogging over).
Elroy/Sparta Trail (Southeastbound) Sparta to Elroy, WI - Part 9/ES
Welcome to the first Rails to Trails Project in America, The Grandfather of them all, The Elroy Sparta Trail. The trail remains one of the most popular trails in the country. With three rock tunnels and five small towns along it's 32.5 mile route, the trail is a favorite Wisconsin bicycling destination. Traveling between Sparta and Elroy, the trail stretches through the communities of Norwalk, Wilton and Kendall. The Elroy Sparta Trail is the property of the State of Wisconsin and is part of it's State Trails System run by the Department of Natural Resources and supported by the Friends of the Elroy Sparta Trail. It is located in Hidden Valleys Country and passes through a portion of the unglaciated areas of Wisconsin exemplifying the natural beauty of our State. Part of the Bike4Trails it connects to 101 miles of trails.
The trail is 32 miles in length on the abandoned Chicago & North Western Railroad bed and passes through three rock tunnels. The three century-old railroad tunnels hightlight the trail. The Kendall and Wilton tunnels are 1/4 mile long and the Norwalk tunnel is just over 3/4 mile long. The tunnels are dark and cool, even on the brightest days, and water from springs above the tunnels can trickle onto the trail. Bikers should walk bikes through the tunnels. The Trail is covered with limestone screenings and provides a smooth riding surface. The bridges are covered with planks and are guarded with railings.
This video is the ninth video of approximately 17 Parts of the expansive 105 miles of trails, beginning in Marshland, WI and ending up in Reedsburg, WI.
Residential for sale - 3914 Rainbow Bend Drive, Missoula, MT 59823
Property Site:
A rare opportunity to own a unique Montana property. Just shy of three acres on the Blackfoot (A River Tuns Through It) River. The largest leg of the property is the waterfront. Only 15 miles to Missoula and the university of Montana campus. Twenty miles to the Missoula airport. Custom built in 1988, the house has had only one owner. It was built using the specifications of the Super Good Cents program requirements and was a featured home for the program. It is built extremely tight and well-insulated making it warm and cozy on even the coldest Montana winter nights and cool during the hottest summer days. An air-to-air heat exchanger provides fresh air throughout the house to compensate for the tightness of the seals. Extensive remodeling was completed in 2011 including a beautiful new kitchen with cherry cabinets featuring doors and drawers with soft closures and all pullouts feature full, heavy duty extensions making all space usable. Full slab granite countertops, porcelain backsplash with hand made Italian glass accent tiles, a wine refrigerator, Wolf dual fuel range with a propane cooktop and electric standard and convection oven, a beverage station and built-in buffet were also added. Solid wideplank Brazilain cherry flooring (100 year warranty) was added to the living room and new carpet to much of the rest of the house. The moss rock fireplace, featuring a sandstone hearth complete with fossilized ferns, was converted to a remote controlled propane fireplace. A propane tap for the grill was also added to the deck. All appliances including the drawer-side microwave are stainless steel. A delta touch on/off kitchen faucet is also a favorite feature. The house was re-roofed in 2009. All of the old shingles were removed and the entire substructure was inspected as part of the project. New gutters were installed and in 2012 Gutter guards were installed making the entire gutter system maintenance free. Also that year a Hunter sprinkler system was installed that covers all of the lawns including back orchard and has drip irrigation in all of the beds. The orchard also houses an octagonal cedar gazebo built by the Amish community in St. Ignatius. There is a large wraparound deck with a Bull Frog hot tub. Two sheds are roomy enough for your fishing raft and other toys and a small greenhouse off the back of the garage will allow you to get a jump-start on summer planting for flowers and veggies. Fishing access is only steps from your deck. Among the many critters that they regularly see on Rainbow Bend are big horn sheep, deer, elk, bald and golden eagles, osprey, blue heron, river otters, bobcats, humming birds, songbirds and yes even the occasional black bear.

Around the Corner with John McGivern | Program | The John Gurda Hour (#414)
[Original Airdate: April 23, 2015]
In our final episode of the season, it’s all about history and John Gurda - for an hour! During this season’s travels, John identified seven topics that he wanted to explore more fully: The Wade House (Greenbush), lannon stone (from Lannon – surprise!) and brownstone (Bayfield), Grant Park (South Milwaukee), the North Point Lighthouse (Milwaukee’s Lake Park), Great Lakes ship building (Sturgeon Bay) and the East Troy Electric Railroad (we don’t really have to tell you where this one is, right?).
In our regular community episodes of Around the Corner with John McGivern, we ask John Gurda to give us a three-minute version of the community’s history. Yep, three minutes. Well, for history buffs or nostalgic types, it’s just not enough time, right? So sit back and enjoy an hour of John Gurda relating what was by showing what is still here.
