U.S. Army 2012 Chicago Saint Patrick's Day Parade
The United States Army participated in the Chicago Saint Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Brig. Gen. Alton G. Berry, 88th Reserve Support Command Deputy Commanding General, USAR, participated in the day's activities as a Co-Grand Marshall, including the Old Saint Pats Church where the mass was held, along with a breakfast before the parade. Gen. Berry interacted with the Grand Marshall, Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny, Governor Patrick Quinn who is Irish, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Catholic clergy from all over the nation. The 14th Sergeant Major of the Army, Sgt. Maj. Raymond F. Chandler III and wife Mrs. Jeanne Chandler, born in Chicago to an Irish-Catholic family, were also Co-Grand Marshalls in the ST Patrick's Day Parade that starts the city of Chicago's parade season. Berry and Chandler cheered on the Army troops as they marched by them in front of the reviewing stand and Sgt. Maj. Chandler is seen singing along to 'The Army Song' as they marched on down Columbus Dr. in downtown Chicago.
Soldiers from the Chicago Recruiting Battalion, Chicago, Glenview and Homewood, Illinois Recruiting Companies; 330th Med. Bde., Fort Sheridan, Ill.; USAREC Future Soldiers; members of the combined 88th Reserve Support Command Band from Wisconsin and Illinois; Roosevelt High School JROTC Cadets; the Wisconsin Military Academy; members of the Sergeant Major of the Army's staff (Msg. Sgt. Jason Shepherd, Sgt. 1st Class Darryl Sammons, Staff Sgt. Meadows); Lt. Col. Nathan Bond and Sgt. 1st Class Ernest White of OCPA Midwest; made up almost 300 Army representatives in the parade. Over 200 Thousand spectators lined the streets and viewed the multiple Army elements participating in the 37th annual Chicago Saint Patrick's Day Parade, the third largest ST Patrick's Day parade in the country.

Saint Patricks Church Demo Put On Hold
WATERVLIET -- Preservationists trying to save a former Catholic church in the Albany area from the wrecking ball have been given a reprieve. The Times Union of Albany reports ( ) that a state judge ordered demolition halted at the former St. Patrick's Church site in Watervliet until an appeals court can hear arguments from preservationists. Crews had already begun clearing the site for a supermarket when the judge's order was issued Wednesday. The judge granted preservationists a stay for two weeks to allow the case to be presented to a panel of appellate justices. City and county courts have already rebuffed preservationists' efforts. A lawyer for the developer says the building is in very bad shape and the last mass there was 18 months ago

We are a young parish of faithful whose mission is to love and honor God and to follow the example set for us by Jesus in the Holy Scripture – to be witnesses of His compassionate love for all people. It is important to us that we live our beliefs and that we share His message with others so that they may grow in their spiritual life and find salvation.
Since our parish was established in 2007, we have been holding Mass in a remodeled barn in northern Lake County, Illinois. In just under six years, our parish has grown and our temporary church in the barn is no longer adequate. So, with the support of our Archbishop, we have started to build a new church with the salvaged remains of two closed and deteriorating Chicago churches of classical and sacred architecture.
Our new church, which will express the majesty and dignity of the House of God, will be a spiritual home for all the people. Any and all are welcome. Whether you are a parishioner or a visitor, young or old, Catholic or from another faith tradition, your presence in our home strengthens our community. If you make our church your home or drop in as a guest, we will treat you with dignity and respect—your presence is our honor.

Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, USA by Monsignor Stephen Hrynuck with responses sung by its choir in Old Church Slavonic. The music for the major prayers was written by the famous Ukrainian composer Mykola Verbitsky.
The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is celebrated in Eastern Byzantine Catholic and Orthodox Churches worldwide.
The choir has been actively singing responses to the Liturgy since the founding of the Church in 1888 by Rev. J. Wolansky, and is widely acclaimed in Canada and the United States, where they have sung the Liturgy and presented concerts of religious and folk music.

DOMA struck down; demolition of old St. James Catholic Church
