JOHANN MICHAEL HAYDN
On Easter Sunday at the 9:00a.m. and 11:00a.m. Masses, Saint Patrick’s Choirs and Chamber Orchestra will present the Missa Sancti Gabrielis by Johann Michael Haydn. J.M. Haydn was a younger brother of the more famous Franz Josef Haydn, composer of The Creation and the Lord Nelson Mass. Michael was born in 1737, five years after Josef, and followed in his brother’s footsteps as a chorister at the Cathedral in Vienna. There the younger Haydn seems to have been the brighter student, and the better singer. In 1762 Michael was appointed Director of Music at the Cathedral in Salzburg, where he remained for forty-three years. His 360 church compositions were considered by the elder Haydn to be superior to his own. In Salzburg, Michael was a friend of Leopold Mozart (who was his assistant) and a great influence on the young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, many of whose Masses show clear signs of having been inspired by those of Michael Haydn.
THE MASS OF SAINT GABRIEL
Although immensely popular in Haydn’s lifetime, the Mass of Saint Gabriel had languished in undeserved obscurity for two centuries. It has rarely been heard in the United States, and this is believed to be its New Orleans première. The Gloria and Credo exist in two versions: the first was written for Haydn’s first church position, at Großwardein, and is characterized by almost scandalous brevity, the phrases being overlapped by different singers. The later and more orthodox version (sung at St. Patrick’s) was written for Salzburg. Two trumpets (in honour of the archangel Gabriel) and tympani give this Mass a splendor entirely appropriate at Easter, while the grace of the melodies and the dramatic harmonies clearly mark it as a masterpiece.
ST LOUIS CATHEDRAL Catholic Church - New Orleans #Travel | Things to Do in New Orleans | LaneVids
I took my 9 month old daughter to the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, LA to shoot a travel video about how cool this catholic church is in the heart of the Crescent City. ???? You HAVE to watch our latest video! ????
In the middle of Jackson Square in New Orleans, LA stands a huge catholic cathedral which is the oldest catholic church that is still in operation in the United States.
Some of the things that we saw while exploring this cathedral was the Old Baptistry, the Lobby of the cathedral and the gift shop. We checked out some of the statues around the church and all of the beautiful ornate artwork inside.
On the side of the St. Louis Cathedral is Pirate Alley which we walked down and I have some history about it. We also took a look at the back of the cathedral and they were renovating it for St. Anthony's Garden.

St. Louis Cathedral Combo: TRICENTENNIAL MOMENTS
St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans is the oldest continuously active Roman Catholic Cathedral in the United States. The historic house of worship welcomed Pope John Paul II in 1987. For almost 300 years New Orleanians have worshipped at St. Louis Cathedral. Named for Louis IX the Sainted King of France, the triple-spired church is an international symbol of the city.
One of the Oldest Irish Cemeteries in New Orleans is St. Patrick’s #1
We checked out Saint Patrick's Cemetery #1 at the end of Canal Street in New Orleans. This mostly Irish cemetery is absolutely beautiful. It's also one that does not have many of the French style tombs found in most other cemeteries around New Orleans. A very interesting place.

St. John Cathedral Oak in Lafayette loui
St. John Cathedral Oak
The tree, one of the largest live oak trees in the United States, is estimated to be almost 500 years old. It was a large tree in 1800 when the property was donated to the Catholic church. The age of the tree is based on the average sizes of known age, a tree recorded in 1812 as a surveyor's section corner marker and the growth rate calculated from cores removed from the tree.
The diameter of the trunk is nine feet two inches and the circumference is twenty eight feet nine inches. It stands 126 feet high with an average spread of 138 feet. The large limb extending in a southwesterly direction has been computed by engineering consultants to weigh 72 tons.

St Louis Cathedral - New Orleans (HD)
St Louis Cathedral is one of the landmarks of New Orleans. It was founded in 1793. It is a building worth a visit! For more about New Orleans:
St. Ann Catholic Church Origin-Mamou
During the early 1900s, Mamou was a mission of Ville Platte, served by priests from Eunice and Ville Platte. During this period, the Eucharist was celebrated in the homes of Simeo (Mayo) Vidrine and Dorsin Aucoin. Between 1910 -1912, the community raised $1,400.00 to build their first church. On November 14, 1913 the Archdiocese of New Orleans appointed Fr. Auguste Viel (born November 28, 1864 in Breton, France) as the First Pastor of the soon to be erected Parish of St. Ann's in Mamou. (Note: the Diocese of Lafayette was not established until January 11, 1918. Consequently, Archdiocese of New Orleans extended from the Mississippi State line to the Texas State Line along the southern tier of Louisiana. Mamou was still under the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of New Orleans at the time. The only other Diocese established in Louisiana prior to 1918 was the Diocese of Natchitoches established July 29, 1853. On August 6, 1910, Alexandria replaced Natchitoches as the Cathedral City of that Diocese and became known as the Diocese of Alexandria ). St. Anns became a Church parish on January 15, 1914. St. Ann was chosen as the name for the Church parish by Fr. Auguste Viel. Church was built on the site where present church is located. In 1915 the Rectory, Church office and pastor's residence were erected. In 1924, a new Church was built. In 1928, Fr. Viel was transferred as Pastor of St. Ann's (Mamou) to serve as Pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (Church Point, LA.). Fr. Fidele Chiasson replaced Fr. Viel. That same year, the church was completely destroyed by fire, possibly caused by lightning. Only the statue of the Blessed Mother was saved. That same statue is now stands on the north side (right side) of the Altar. Following the fire, the Eucharist was celebrated in the original 1914 Church. In January 1936, another fire burned the original 1914 church and the rectory, possibly caused by sparks from the rectory fireplace. Again, the Blessed Mother's Statue was saved. That same year, a new Church was built. Then, in 1943, Fr. J. Albert LeBlanc became Pastor (after serving as Assistant in Franklin, Louisiana for 5 years). He was 32 years old when he became Pastor. In 1955, the present brick church was completed. On July 26 ,1955, the Feast of St. Ann, the eucharist was celebrated in the new church for the first time. Later, on June 3, 1956, St. Anns Church was dedicated. Father Bryce Sibley is our current pastor ( 8-2-09 )
America's Oldest (and Smallest) Cathedral Church
The Cathedral of San Carlos Borromeo, also known as the Royal Presidio Chapel, is one of the most beautiful buildings in the United States. It is located in Monterey, California in its historic downtown district. The cathedral is the oldest continuously operating parish and the oldest stone building in California. It was built in 1794 making it the oldest (and smallest) serving cathedral along with St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the only existing presidio chapel in California and the only existing building in the original Monterey Presidio.

Places to see in ( New Orleans - USA ) St Louis Cathedral
The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, also called St. Louis Cathedral, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans and is the oldest cathedral in what would become the United States. The first church on the site was built in 1718; the third, built in 1789, was raised to cathedral rank in 1793. The cathedral was expanded and largely rebuilt in 1850, with little of the 1789 structure remaining.
Saint Louis Cathedral is in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, on the Place John Paul II (French: Place Jean-Paul II), a promenaded section of Chartres Street (rue de Chartres) that runs for one block between St. Peter Street (rue Saint-Pierre) on the upriver boundary and St. Ann Street (rue Sainte-Anne) on the downriver boundary. It is located next to Jackson Square and facing the Mississippi River in the heart of New Orleans, situated between the historic buildings of the Cabildo and the Presbytère.
Three Roman Catholic churches have stood on the site since 1718, when the city was founded. The first was a crude wooden structure in the early days of the French colony. As the French were Catholic, their church was prominently located on the town square. Construction of a larger brick and timber church was begun in 1725 and was completed in 1727. Along with numerous other buildings, the church was destroyed in the Great New Orleans Fire (1788) on Good Friday, March 21, 1788. The cornerstone of a new church was laid in 1789 and the building was completed in 1794. In 1793 Saint Louis Church was elevated to cathedral rank as the See of the Diocese of New Orleans, making it one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States. In 1819, a central tower with the clock and bell was added.
Saint Louis Cemetery is known as the burial place of Voodoo priestess Marie Laveau; her tomb attracts hundreds of pilgrims every year. The cemetery is also the burial place of various prominent New Orleans residents, including Étienne de Boré, Homer Plessy, Bernard de Marigny, Benjamin Henry Latrobe (architect of the first American Cathedral in Baltimore and the US Capitol), Barthelemy Lafon, Paul Morphy, and Ernest Nathan Morial.

New Orleans French Quarters St Louis Catheral Jackson Square Prayer Candles with Brandon Perhaps the most recognized landmark in New Orleans, St. Louis Cathedral is the centerpiece of Jackson Square. This cathedral is unique as a focal point of an ultra-Catholic city, as its interior is somewhat sparsely decorated. But in spite of that, it does have a great deal of historical significance: Andrew Jackson supposedly laid down his sword on the altar in thanks for his victory in the battle of New Orleans. It is also the oldest continually operating cathedral in the US. Pope John Paul II also has made a visit here. The cathedral is open to visitors.
Magnificent St. Louis Cathedral presides over Jackson Square as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the United States. Established as a place of worship in 1716, the structure was completed on this site in 1727 then destroyed by fire in 1788.
