UDP LATRI KUNDA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE EXPULSION OF HONORABLE SAIKOU MARONG OF LATRI KUNDA SABIJI CONSTITUENCY

PRESS STATEMENT READ BY THE CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVE SECRETARY ON BEHALF OF THE CONSTITUENCY EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Good evening esteemed and patriotic Executive members of Latri Kunda Sabiji Constituency, dedicated loyal stalwarts of the great United Democratic Party (UDP), distinguished invited personalities of the media fraternity, dedicated Honorable Ward Councilors of Latri Kunda Sabiji and Faji Kunda, invited guests, Ladies and gentlemen and all protocols respectfully observed.

We the executive members of the aforementioned constituency wholeheartedly welcome all of you to this historic and extra-ordinary press briefing.

Constituency Executive Members, Ward Councilors, party supporters and invited media fraternity.

Today's press briefing in necessitated in view of the current political development surrounding the decision of the United Democratic party's (UDP) National Executive to expel our erstwhile National Assembly Member (NAM) for Latri Kunda Sabiji Constituency Honorable Saikou Marong. For the records and clarity, we the executive members and party supporters are in full support and in solidarity with the decision of the National Executive of the party.

Ladies and gentlemen, we the constituency executive members ans party stalwarts have been fully consulted and engaged in all the decisions that emanated from the national executive of the party.

Suffice to say, we the constituency executive members have made series of overtures to reach out the renegade Saikou Marong to work hand in gloves with the constituency executive members and party supporters to address some of the issues and challenges in the constituency, but to our dismay Honorable Saikou Marong turned a blind ans deaf ears to the concern of the masses.

Renegade Saikou Marong over the one and half year, has been found wanting on numerous occasions for clandestinely working to undermine the democratic gains registered by the party at the constituency level. Saikou Marong's ill-advised illogical disloyalty to the party's constitution is not a secret and in view this,we at the constituency level lodged series of complaints to the party's National Executive to urgently address the renegade Honorable Saikou Marong.

In 2017 Legislative election, Saikou Marong was an unknown political quantity with no political or lining. The United Democratic Party's (UDP) genuine support catapulted Saikou Marong to his present status as an Honorable member of the Legislative assembly. Saikou Marong has manifested unruly attitude towards the hands that feeds him and it's now time to show him the light of truth.

Furthermore, Honorable Saikou Marong has betrayed the trust and confidence reposed on him by the gallant electorates of Latri Kunda Sabiji Constituency.Saikou Marong's public pronouncements run contrary to the ideals and principles of the party. Saikou Marong amateurish attitude of supporting the political agenda of the president shows that he is running the risk of putting into disrepute the primary function of an Honorable member of the National Assembly.

Moreover, Saikou Marong's failure to digest and comprehend national issues from the president's ulterior individual political agenda has pitted him against the ideologies of the United Democratic Party. Mr. Marong's sheer arrogance and pomposity towards the popular demands of the electorates he presents is a cause for concern.

The United Democratic Party believes and operates within the tenets of internal party democracy at all times. The party is development oriented and the interest of the Gambia supersedes personal interest.

To buttress, Saikou Marong is not honest and truthful to his electorates and he has received bribes from the president of the Republic which is clearly against the spirit and letter of the constitution'

In UDP we trust. Long lived the Great Republic of the Gambia. Long lived Great United Democratic Party.
