Charleston, SC Walking and Food Tours
I'm not sure I mentioned it in the video but Charleston, South Carolina is HOT in August. Just joking...not about the heat but about me mentioning it in the video. I should have counted but I think I said it was hot about a hundred times. Even though the heat was CRAZY we still had a great day. We participated in a walking tour and food tour both of which were really great and we would recommend if you are visiting. I'll link their websites below. Make comments or ask questions. Things To Do In Charleston SC
Also posted on This is a quick tour around Charleston South Carolina showing some of the things to do in Charleston that await visitors to this magnificent and historic city.
Charleston South Carolina, A city of history, hospitality, and a heaping dose of good ole southern charm.
Hi I'm Carl
In this short video you'll see Charleston come alive and you'll understand why one magazine recently voted it the number one tourist destination in all of America.
Something I've known for years.
One of the best ways to learn about Charleston's past is to take a tour.
And one of the fun ways to tour the city.... is in a horse drawn carriage.
That's exactly what I did on a recent visit.
As Kevin, supplied the.... uh horsepower, our knowledgable guide entertained and informed us with many interesting tidbits regarding Charleston's rich history, a city whose beginning dates back more than a hundred years before the founding of America.
Add in the picture perfect weather we enjoyed, and you've got the recipe for an experience that's hard to beat.
If exercise is more your style, one of the many walking tours may better suit your needs.
Charleston's downtown business and residential districts are compact and perfect for a relaxed and entertaining walk as you appreciate the history and beauty all around you.
At some point in your visit, you'll probably find yourself meandering through City Market, as will most of Charleston's 4 million annual visitors.
This Charleston landmark has been around since the 1790's.
Today from among the hundreds of local vendors, you can find just the right item to purchase and keep as a souvenir or to give as that special gift.
The city of Charleston proper boasts 90 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with another 96 in the remaining parts of the county.
As you witness the variety of these restored treasures, you'll appreciate why Charleston was considered the cultural center of the antebellum South.
Since we're talking historical homes, make sure you stroll along East Battery street toward White Point Garden.
You'll enjoy the beauty of the magnificent row of stately antebellum homes that line the street to your right as Charleston harbor splashes against the battery seawall on which you walk.
Charleston's visitors also enjoy the city by water. There are numerous Harbor tours where one can get a better sense of Charleston's skyline, and with an evening cruise, enjoy a beautiful sunset as well.
Another harbor treat is to view the Ravenel bridge up close and personal. This Charleston landmark doesn't have the history that attracts so many to the Holy City, having been completed less than a decade ago, but it makes up for its newcomer status by its sheer size, spanning two and a half miles in length, and rising to the majestic height of 575 feet.
This 8 lane engineering marvel connects downtown Charleston to Mt Pleasant,
and one day a year, 40 thousand runners use it for their own personal highway in what's known as the Cooper River Bridge Run.
And who could visit Charleston and not take the boat to Fort Sumter, the scene of the first battle of the war between the States.
After a 30 minute narrated cruise, you'll step foot on the very soil where America's most bloody war began.
Once on site National Park Service Rangers will provide more details of this regrettable episode in our nation's history.
Charleston is also known for its Plantations.
You'd be hard pressed to fully understand what makes downtown Charleston what it is without visiting and learning more about the role played by these historic and massive plantations.
And while we're out and about, this is the perfect time for me to tell you that there are no less than 5 beaches within 25 miles of Charleston.
Whether your accommodations are on the beach, or you simply come to spend a peaceful sun drenched day, it's the perfect complement to your downtown Charleston adventure.
Did I hear someone say shopping?
Just so you know, King street was recently chosen as one of the 10 best shopping streets in the United States.
Whether its antiques, art, or fashion, you'll find it all.. I say... shop on!
All this activity will surely make you hungry enough to eat a horse...... oops..... sorry Kevin, my bad......
whether its fine dinning or various other award winning eateries, from barbecue to bistro, from cafe to cafeteria, from tavern to tearoom, and others too numerous to list, Charleston has it all.
Then when daylight turns to darkness, you'll have to take a break from your non stop Charleston adventure.
Charleston's travelers have access to some of the most elegant accommodations.
Whether you're looking for historic charm, a private hideaway, or unparalleled luxury, your nights in Charleston will be as perfect as your days.
Budget conscious families also have many alternatives from which to choose.
One day at the Ocean - Charleston, South Carolina!
Follow the adventure!

CHARLESTON, SC, USA part one
CHARLESTON, SC, USA (part one). A historic city where many battles fought in struggle for freedom from British colonial rule. Most of the buildings in the old city area are 150 to 300 years old, well maintained and neatly preserved. These buildings were built during the British era. Even after independence and becoming part and parcel of United States of America under Corolina State. Later this State is divided in to two States as NORTH and SOUTH COROLONIA. The old legacy of buildings are well maintained and neatly preserved and the tradition of horses and chariots are continued in these modern times also, but in a different way, under TOURISM INDUSTRY.
In the present old market area, slaves were sold @ 100 to 300 dollars, some 300 years back. But this area now turned in to shopping centre and a moderate business centre.
Now some of the other areas of development are Port, Shipyard, Air Force bace etc.
This is only a brief detail.

VISTING CHARLESTON SOUTH CAROLINA
Over the holiday break, we visited Charleston, South Carolina. Well, we really were kind of out in the country near Holly Hill, but that's another story. We knew we had to get into town and explore some of the great history and sites that Charleston had to offer.
We started by doing some searches about must sees and do's in Charleston and found that everybody recommended Battery and White Point Gardens (seemingly the same place). So, this is where we started our travel adventure and it was beautiful! The weather couldn't have been better, we saw beautiful, old oak trees, cannon, Ft. Sumter off in the distance, statues, and lots of old South homes.
After exploring the Battery Park area of Charleston, we decided to stop by the open air Charleston City Market and see if we could find a candy store that many locals recommended. We'd been to the Charleston City Market before and it was still a fun experience where we tried okra chips for the first time. At the end of the market, we could see the Carnival cruise ship and it's port only a block away from the market. Very convenient if you're visiting Charleston while on a Carnival cruise.
We still hadn't found the candy store, but we accidentally walked right into it as we started heading back to our car! It's right at the end of the Charleston City Market, just across the street. It was a lot of fun inside, with candy being made, model trains carrying candy about the store, and barrels full of treats! It's called the Charleston Candy Kitchen and it's inside a building that used to be an Episcopal church.....along with two bars. Not sure what that says about the church, but found it interesting.
It was a quick adventure in downtown Charleston, but we accomplished a lot and enjoyed the time, very much.
Battery Park (also known as The Battery), which includes a park known as White Point Gardens, is a landmark promenade in Charleston, South Carolina famous for its stately antebellum homes. First used as a public park in 1837, it became a place for artillery during theAmerican Civil War. It stretches along the shores of the Charleston peninsula, bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers. Fort Sumter is visible from the Cooper River side and the point, as is Castle Pinckney, the World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10), Fort Moultrie, and Sullivan's Island.
Fort Sumter is a Third System masonry coastal fortification located in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The fort is best known as the site upon which the shots initiating the American Civil War were fired, at the Battle of Fort Sumter.
Market Hall and the sheds of the City Market, or Centre Market, comprise a historic market complex in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, USA. Established in the 1790s, the market stretches for four city blocks from the architecturally-significant Market Hall, which faces Meeting Street, through a continuous series of one-story market sheds, the last of which terminates at East Bay Street. In 1973, Market Hall, which has been described as a building of the highest architectural design quality,[1] was designated a National Historic Landmark, and was listed, along with its accompanying sheds, on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]
Initially known as the Centre Market, Charleston's City Market was developed as a replacement for the city's Beef Market building, which burned in 1796. Market Hall, designed by Charleston architect Edward B. White, was added in the early 1840s. Throughout the 19th century, the market provided a convenient place for area farms and plantations to sell beef and produce, and also acted as a place for locals to gather and socialize.[4] Today, the City Market's vendors sell souvenirs and other items ranging from jewelry to Gullahsweetgrass baskets.

Charleston Trip
We decided to take a quick trip to Charleston, SC. We used Hotwire.com to find a hotel in downtown, and it pick the Fulton Lane Inn for us. You could walk out the door and be on King Street or walk 5 minutes to the City Market. It was a perfect location and was walking distances to everything, including Rainbow Row, or the Battery. My favorite part of this place was them bringing us breakfast in bed! Once we checked in, we went to our favorite sandwich shop, Brown Dog Deli. It is always delicious. After walking around for a few hours, we used Lyft to take us to a Charleston Stingrays game in North Charleston. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back again.

In May 2015 we bought a 28 foot Class C motor home that we called Maycee. On September 16th, we had an accident and Maycee was totaled, so we are now embarking on finding a replacement in addition to working on a homestead that we will use as our home base.

OUR STORY
We are Josh and Kali from Seattle, Washington. In 2015 we decided to change our lives. We sold everything we owned bought a RV and a truck starting living in our RV full time in 30 days! Full time rv living was a major change for us. We hadn't made any plans to change to this rv life until one day it hit us we couldn't have the American Dream and travel to. Choosing to travel meant downsizing our life and becoming minimalists. It was the BEST decision we have ever made. Now we plan to travel non-stop in our 33ft. fifth wheel full time.
