Violent Windstorm In Russia Kills 16 People
A violent storm has swept through Moscow, leaving 16 people dead and dozens injured as freak winds toppled hundreds of trees and brought down other structures.
“Due to storm winds hitting Moscow, 50 people have asked for medical attention up to now,” a spokesperson for the City Hall’s health department told AFP. “Eleven were fatally injured.”
Two more deaths were reported when the investigative committee of the Moscow region said an 11-year-old girl and a 57-year-old man were killed, one by a falling tree and the other by a flying fence.
Earlier investigators said the victims were mostly killed by falling trees and structures such as a bus stop. Investigators were looking at the scenes of the accidents and questioning witnesses.
The Moscow mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, expressed condolences for those who died. “Several hundred trees were felled,” he wrote on his official Twitter. “We are taking necessary measures to deal with the consequences.”

Moscow emergency services dispatched units to remove the felled trees but had no information about any serious material damages, a spokesman told AFP by phone.
The weather caused delays at Moscow’s airports and the express train to Vnukovo airport had to halt its service as workers removed a tree from the line.
The director of Russia’s Gidromedtsentr weather service, Roman Vilfand, told Russian agencies that wind speeds reached 22 metres per second during the hurricane and that another storm could hit the capital overnight on Monday.

More information on Crimea’s land conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine – Land conflicts are often widely debated and can have disastrous effects on individuals, groups and entire nations. As Kids LearningTube, it’s my mission to teach those of all ages the facts and I do not have a personal opinion nor the authority to speak on behalf of territorial rights no matter how emotionally charged or justified the dispute of parties involved. With this said, below are some facts about Crimea since there’s international debate of whether it rightfully is part of the Russian Federation or Ukraine.
In recent history (“History of Crimea,” 1), Crimea became an oblast first of the Russian SSR (1945-1954) and then the Ukranian SSR (1954 - 1991). Since 1991 the territory was covered within independent Ukraine. During the 2014 Crimean crisis, the peninsula was taken over by pro-Russian forces and a referendum on whether to join Russia was held (“Crimean Status Referendum, 2014” 2), which resulted in Crimea being annexed by the Russian Federation. Since the annexation, there has been much debate about whether this is condemned or supported by the international community. At the 2014 UN General Assembly in 2014, 100 countries voted in favor of the position that Russia’s annexation of Ukrainian territory was illegal under international law, 48 countries abstained from voting, and 10 countries backed the Russian Federation (“From A to Z: These are the 10 countries backing Putin’s annexation of Crimea,” 3).
The Russian Federation opposes the “annexation” label, with Putin defending the referendum as complying with the principle of self-determination of peoples. In July 2015, Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Crimea had been fully integrated into Russia (“Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation,” 4)

Stas Gorshenin’d had been enjoying regular city life as a Muscovite for a long time. He had concentrated on developing a 3D designer career, but somehow, he just wasn’t happy. But that all changed when Stas accidentally found himself on a trip to Altai, a Russian republic in southern Siberia. The young man immediately fell in love with the place and so began the path to his alternative lifestyle. He bought a homestead, built a small house and started a family. But simple doesn’t necessarily mean easy. Off-grid living is pretty tough. Stas had to work hard for a simple, sustainable life. But in the end, one can say he has won, as his depression has since abated and his health has improved. Moreover, he’s managed to improve his vehicle concept designer career while in the wilderness, becoming more successful than he could have ever imagined!

Team Coverage: Fire rips through 3 homes in downtown Macon
Flames ripped through three historic homes in downtown Macon Wednesday night on Orange and High Streets. 5 firefighters were injured in the blaze, and crews have been working all night and into the day trying to figure out what sparked this massive fire.
