Onondaga Cave Tour at Onondaga Cave State Park - Missouri Must See!
We went on this Onondaga Cave Tour with Matt and Kay with Happy Trails Hiking. They were great guides to have along since I’ve never been to this cave before.

“Onondaga Cave, a National Natural Landmark within Onondaga Cave State Park, is recognized as one of the most spectacular caves in the nation because of the quality of its formations. The tours lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes, covering about one mile of passageways. The cave's temperature is 57ºF (13ºC) year-round.
Scheduled tours are given seasonally; check website for dates and fees.”
“It was Dill's wish that the state be given the right of first refusal on the sale of the Onondaga property. With cooperation from his survivors and assistance of the Nature Conservancy the state legislature met the Dill family's request, and Onondaga became a state park dedicated to Lester B. Dill. Officially dedicated in 1982, the cave was also designated as National Natural Landmark.[6]
In 1986 a large celebration was held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the cave's discovery. Under the management of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Division of State Parks, Onondaga Cave is now in its second century and secure from further land disputes and vandalism. A new visitor's center and the nature museum were erected in 1990.[6]“
“Onondaga Cave has some really beautiful formations. There are helictites, cave pearls, shields, and lily pads. This cave is considered to be the most beautifully decorated cave in Missouri, and that means a lot. Especially the still ponds of dripping water are a source of extraordinary calcite crystals. The water is so still, calcite crystals form on the surface, making calcite rafts locally called calcite ice. They are swimming because of the surface tension of the water, and sink at the slightest stirring of the water. Lily pads resemble water lily's but are actually calcite crystals formed in calcite rich water on stalagmites standing in the water. Shields are, as the name says, shield-like formations and are extremely rare. They are formed by water which is transported along a thin crack by capillary forces.“

Onondaga Cave/ Missouri State Park
Another awesome Missouri State Park. We took a trip up to Onondaga Cave State Park. This park has a little something extra. Oh it has an RV park and the Meramec river for fishing, floating, and swimming. It also offers several hiking trails. The main attraction at this state park is an awesome cave. Missouri is known as the cave state and this one is really great one. Are you looking for a great state park? This one is only a short drive off I-44 near St. Louis. So if you're camping, floating or just visiting, Onondaga Cave State Park is one of the best ones in Missouri. So get out and have your adventure today. God Bless!

To beat the heat in Missouri in July, we decided to tour Onondaga Cave in Onondaga Cave State Park. It is a well lit and very popular tour and good for people of any age. This cave is a MUST SEE in Missouri!

Trained guides will lead you over electrically lighted paved walkways and provide information about geologic wonders such as the King's Canopy, the Twins, and other unusual speleothems. With an interesting history and a river flowing through the cave, Onondaga Cave is a spectacular registered National Natural Landmark.
Onondaga Cave tours leave from the visitor center. They are walking tours, just less than one mile long, and last about one hour and 15 minutes. The cave's temperature is 57ºF (13ºC) year-round, so, bring a jacket and comfortable shoes.

Onondaga Cave State Park - Cave Tour and Trails - Park Travel Review
Onondaga Cave State Park has lots to offer for park visitors. In this Park Travel Review, we join with our friends, John and Amie from Big Crazy Outdoor Adventures, to hike the Deer Run Trail and tour the Main Cave at Onondaga State Park. We got about 3 miles in fro the #Hike365Challenge on the Deer Run Trail. We were happy to join John and Amie for their first tour of the cave. While here are many Missouri Caves to explore, this has to be our favorite one. The tour is about 90 minutes long and you walk about one mile total. The first weekend of April is opening weekend for the cave tours.

▶︎ Onondaga Cave SP is a hidden gem in the Missouri Ozark's
Most people who are camping and visiting this part of the Ozark's are here to enjoy the river, but don't forget to checkout the caves. I spoke to the campground host and his wife and they told me that the Onondaga caves are the third most visited in North America. The staff at the visitors center was also friendly.
The campground was very clean and well maintained. There isn't a lot of tent camping, most people are visiting with RV's and camper trailers. There are a lot of folks with canoes and inner-tubes in the campground.

You can see both campground loops, the showers and wood lot. It has a great cave and a river.
Onondaga Cave Trip Part 2 of 3 The Lillypad Room
This short video was filmed in one of the most popular locations on the Onondaga Cave tour. The Cave is located in Onondaga Cave State Park, in Leasburg MO. The water and the formations have a slight green tint to them from all the coins that were thrown into the pool over the years. The state park system has since removed all the coins, but the damage was done. We hung back on the tour to take the video without all the noise and other people crowding us, it's not a very large area, but very pretty.
