Columbus Coffee, Restaurants, Krakow
Columbus café is located in a place that can boast an extremely rich history, having been the hub of bohemian life in Kraków for many years. Working under the supervision of historic preservation officers, the experts from Columbus Coffee tried with great care to bring the place back to its former glory. They have even managed to find an entrance leading to the Planty park hidden under layers of plaster. Soon the café is to be expanded with stylish basements, and, hopefully, in the near future, with an original Art Nouveau open-air gallery, or veranda.Weranda (which translates as veranda) was also the name of the café at the turn of the 20th century, when it was frequented by such figures as: Gabriela Zapolska - an actress and writer, Stanisław Wyspiański - a playwright, poet, painter, Jacek Malczewski - a painter, Stanisław Przybyszewski - a poet and playwright, Xawery Dunikowski - a sculptor and teacher, Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński - a translator of French literature, writer and poet, a physician by profession, and also Lucjan Rydel - a poet and playwright. Any of the delicious coffees that you order at this new café is bound to bring the spirit of Art Nouveau Kraków back to life.
Our products are made with passion, we only use our own recipes or support local producers. The articles sold by Columbus Coffee can be described with one simple word - homemade. The result is a sensual product of extraordinary history and flavour that constitutes an inherent part of a coffee-drinking culture. Thanks to fresh ingredients and continuous process of preparation that takes place 7 days a week, our cafés only sell one-day articles. They are 100% fresh and top quality, and their flavour distinguishes them from other products on the market.

Old Town and Main Square - Krakow
The historic Old Town, or Stare Miasto, is Krakow's central district and in medieval times was surrounded by a three kilometer long fortified wall. In the 19th century most of the fortifications were demolished and the surrounding moat filled in to create a horseshoe shaped park known as the Planty, which surrounds the entire Old Town. Directly to the south of Krakow's Old Town is Wawel Hill, where the Royal Castle and Krakow Cathedral are to be found.
Find out more:
The centerpiece of the Old Town is Krakow's Main Market Square, or Rynek, which is the largest such in Europe and has an area of 40,000 square meters. The centre of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall, or Sukiennice, home to the Gallery of the National Museum, the new Underground Museum and numerous arts and crafts market stalls. From April to October, plentiful bars and restaurants provide extensive outdoor seating and opportunities to people-watch in the Rynek.

Autorska galeria rzeźby Bronisława chromego
w park Decjusza
- [19.10.2019]
The Author's Sculpture Gallery of Bronisław Chromy in Wola Justowska,is located in ul. Krańcowa and surrounded by the historic Decius Park, is the realization of the bold dream of a well-known Krakow sculptor to create a place of exhibition of his rich artistic achievements. The gallery building with an unusual architectural form was built according to the artist's design in the 1990s by adapting the building of the former Concert Shell. The park's greenery is a picturesque backdrop for the outdoor sculpture of Bronistawa Chromy. In the spacious interior, you can see a rich collection of smaller sculpture forms, furniture, painting and graphics. After the death of prof. Chromego Gallery adopts a new formula, trying to present to the inhabitants of Kraków and tourists the artist's profile as part of the permanent exhibition of his works, lectures and workshops for children and teenagers. There has been a cafe in the Gallery building for years. Sitting at tables set among carved birds and creatures that emerged from the chisel of Bronistaw Chromeg0, you are absorbing the unique atmosphere of this unique place, which has constantly grown in Krakow's artistic landscape. The Gallery also hosts concerts, temporary exhibitions as well as conferences and special events. You're welcome.

Live Cannibalism in Krakow
The Magic Carpathians Project in Bern
The Magic Carpathians Project has been established in 1998 by Anna Nacher and Marek Styczynski. Mournful vocals, eerie woodwinds, hypnotic drones, primal rythms, noise collages, rich sonic tapestries. Exploring the soundscapes of Carpathian primal forests and alpine open spaces.
Singer/guitarist Anna Nacher exceptional vocal abilities are often compared to the likes of Diamanda Galas, Lisa Gerrard, Iva Bittova or Renate Knaupt. Her specific vocal expression is built on techniques of throat singing developed across Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Marek Styczynski employs a plethora of ethnic instruments - choosing between bowed Turkmen hydjak or prepared dulcimer as well as a number of European and Asian flutes and reeds and gongs, cymbals and frame drums. His most distinctive woodwind instruments come from traditional Carpathian mountain culture of Poland (a sort of shepherds reed instrument called in Polish ligawa) and Slovakia (Slovakian shepherds fujara, gajdica and a lot of other horn-like woodwinds). Soundscapes they create often are accompanied with home made analog sine wave modulators and primal electronics.
The Magic Carpathians Project has released highly acclaimed albums on Obuh Records, Drunken Fish Records, Vivo Records, Reverb Worship as well as on their self-managed label, World Flag Records.
The Magic Carpathians Project regularly performs in Poland and Europe at various jazz and folk festivals as well as in chamber settings like art galleries or clubs. In 2001 and 2006 the Magic Carpathians Project has toured in USA, performing in New York City (Knitting Factory, Tonic and WFMU live broadcast), Columbus, Nashville, Austin (at South by South West Music & Media Conference), Albuquerque, Los Angeles, San Francisco (including live broadcast at KFJC radio station), Davis (KDVS radio station live broadcast), Chicago (WNUR radio station) and Seattle as well as at the Terrastock Festival 6 in Providence.
Anna Nacher is also active as a sound artist interested in field recording and acoustic ecology (released the series of albums with soundwalks from Laponia in the northern Sweden, her other recordings available at )
More:
Noise to Silence -- site-specific long strings installation
Noise to Silence has been conceived in 2011 by Anna Nacher and Marek Styczynski (Magic Carpathians Project) as a project to investigate the meditative qualities of overtones which are generated acoustically (with long string instrument) and/or electronically (with home made analog sine wave generators). The long string instrument -- inspired by the work of Ellen Fullman -- is always installed in specific ambiance and exploring audiences' listening abilities in relation to different sonic architectures depending on the site itself. Thus generated soundscapes function as a environment of dynamic exchange between human ears/mind/body, metal (long wires) and the environment (air, building materials and architectural shapes). When analog sine waves generators are employed, the basic medium is electricity - overtones are translated into the minor changes in the electromagnetic field and the environment consists also of the technical equipment and frequencies of electric waves.
Noise to Silence has been carried out in 2011 in EL Art Gallery (Elbląg, Poland) and open-air at the public park during art festival (Nowy Sącz, Poland).
