Parasailing into Spring Break 2012
This was the BEST SPRING BREAK EVER thanks to Chute 'Em Up Parasailing in Orange Beach, Alabama (251-981-7673). They really changed my perspective on the Gulf of Mexico and the beach.
I'll admit I was a little anxious pulling into Happy Harbor Marina to board the boat, but Allen and Jack put me at ease immediately as they greeted us by the dock. Captain Seth covered all the safety information and Nolan hooked us up into our harnesses. Next, Nolan filled the parachute with air and motioned for us to climb up on the stern. He hooked the three of us in and we were off.
Lift off was my favorite part. This was the adrenaline rush. What I didn't expect was that this surge of exhilaration quickly turned into a state of bliss. The view was breathtaking. The sparkling water was mesmerizing. It was so cool to be still and soak in the natural beauty surrounding us.
Parasailing was an experience I'll never forget. Once I got used to being up so high, all time completely slowed and the rest of the world stopped -- just for me! There is absolutely nothing like gliding your way through the air at 800 feet.

Dolphin Cruise - Orange Beach, Alabama
I don't work for this company but had a great experience.
A few tips for your cruise:
1) Be prepared to use your video or other camera with one hand as you hold onto the rail of the boat with the other hand.
2) Bring a few small drinks in a small cooler if you have small kids - you may be on the boat for 75 minutes.
3) There is a bathroom on the boat
4) Bring some money to tip the deckhand, who was great with the kids and helped everyone get the best view of the dolphins
Students from major universities flock to Orange Beach for Spring Break
Story:
Gulf Coast beaches are filling up as spring break gets underway. Most major state universities in Alabama are out this week and co-eds are hitting the beach for a week of fun in the sun. The warm weather was a welcome relief for many.
By midday Monday, March 11, 2019, the fog had burned off at Cotton Bayou Public Beach, ushering in a lot of sunshine. That was great news for a lot of folks there. Not all were from the warm confines of the deep south.
Matt D-Alonzo is from Mobile, but goes to school at Notre Dame. He brought some friends with him from South Bend, Indiana this year. For all of them it’s a welcome break.
“They’re not really used to the heat in the middle of winter,” D-Alonzo said. “I mean, up there it’s like 20 degrees and covered in snow so just coming down here, enjoying the beach, enjoying the good food, it’s just a really special experience.”
Monday was just the beginning of a spring break season that will last through Easter weekend. The largest crowds are still to come, but that was just fine with those who were lucky enough to spend their Monday at the beach.
“Just pretty water, nice beach, a lot of restaurants and different places to eat and seems like a nice place to come,” said Michelle Burnett from Jackson, MS.
“A lot of us have never been here before and a lot of us have lived close to the beach so we just wanted to try something different,” Troy University student, Gina Losastro added.
The sun showed up for much of the afternoon, tempting some to take a dip in the still-chilly waters. For others, the beach was turned into a variety of sporting venues. Soccer and Frisbee…baseball and volleyball all took center stage. All said Alabama’s beaches didn’t disappoint.
“The weather’s great. The people are great here. Everyone’s so welcoming and inviting and also a lot cheaper than a lot of those destinations in Florida and such,” said Kevin Dougherty from South Bend, IN.
With temperatures in the twenties back in South Bend, Dougherty and his friends were glad to have a chance to thaw out under the Alabama sunshine.

Swarm of sharks close Alabama beaches in US
Aerial footage shows a swarm of sharks off the coast of Alabama which has closed a number of beaches.
Alabama beaches have been closed because of a swarm of sharks swimming just offshore.
The city of Orange Beach is flying double red flags to let swimmers know to stay out of the water around Alabama Point at Perdido Pass.
Aerial video shows large numbers of sharks swimming in shallow waters, and dorsal fins are sometimes exposed.
No attacks have been reported.
Beach safety supervisor Melvin Shepard says the beach closings began over the weekend, and fire officials say it continues Monday.
Shepard says anyone entering the water can be fined. While most people are staying out of the surf, a few are still venturing into the Gulf.
Shepard says the shark swarm may be linked to a large number of fish carcasses in the water during red snapper season.
