MONEY EXCHANGE IN JAPAN ????????
How to exchange money in Japan? #HowtogetYen #moneyexchangejapan #mylifeinokinawa Japan is a cash society. Luckily, it is the safest country in the world so it's okay to carry large amounts of cash with you at all times without the worry of being mugged or held up. Generally there is no need to buy Japanese yen in your home country before your trip, as you will most likely pay a higher commission (about 3%) and a worse exchange rate than you would get at the airports, banks, or ATMs in Japan.
If you are changing cash, you frequently get a better rate at certain airport counters because they hold and trade that same cash out, but in inside the country the spread on cash is 3 to 4%.
Hint: Many machines issue bills of 1,000 and 10,000 yen. If you prefer to have some smaller bills, withdraw an amount such as 19,000 Y for 9 x 1,000 Y notes instead of 2 x 10,000 notes by withdrawing 20,000 Y. Breaking a large bill for a small amounts does not seem to be a problem in Japan though - most merchants carry plenty of change.
Credit cards are accepted at major hotels and larger restaurants. Small business hotels and small restaurants generally do not accept credit cards. The credit card company will charge a fee on your bill for foreign exchange (usually 1-3%), and there may be a surcharge from the retailer/hotel to pay by credit card - ask first.
Foreign currency and foreign travelers checks are not accepted anywhere in Japan except on certain U.S. military bases and facilities

Tsukiji Fish Market Guide: Tuna Auction and Breakfast Odyssey ★ ONLY IN JAPAN
The world's largest fish market is one of Tokyo's biggest attractions.
Tsukiji is set to move to a new location soon so we went for a visit this month.
★ Tuna Auction 04:00 to 05:00
★ Outer Market 06:00 to 09:00
☆ Tuna Shop 08:00
☆ Make Your Own Breakfast 08:30
★ Inner Market 09:00 to 10:00
(Note: Photography and Video is prohibited inside the inner market until 09:00 every day.)
Why is Tsukiji Tokyo's biggest attraction?
Maybe it's because it's not a tourist attraction at all. This is a real market where many of Japan's best sushi chefs get their ingredients.
It's raw and real.
Tsukiji is essentially a city within a city. It has its own way of doing things.
There are many rules to visiting Tsukiji.
You should wear long pants, boots (if you have them – the floor is wet and full of fish guts), and you should be considerate of people's privacy, especially the sushi chefs shopping. The security guards have no trouble tossing you out at the gate!
Photography is prohibited until 09:00 for privacy concerns. They are quite strict about this in the inner market.
Breakfast:
Should you eat at Sushi Dai? If you like waiting in line to eat the same fish at restaurants all around the area, go for it! There is no quality difference between restaurants in the inner market and those on the outside – all the ingredients come from the same place.
We went into a stand in the outer market to see and yes, it was great!
No haggling / bargaining in Tsukiji. The price is the price.
Our guests for this episode are:
★ Greg Lane, founder and editor / writer for TokyoCheapo.com
URL:
★ Morita Hirobumi, head instructor for the Tsukiji Sushi Workshop
URL:
★ Dru Tang, HinoMaple founder and Tokyo guide

☆ Special thanks to Masanori Numata for helping with the camera and also to Tsubasa Kaieda of tsukiji-market.jp for assisting on location.
BREAKFAST:

MAP:
Kaisendon tent with Makase-don bowl is here:
Public eating area in the outer market (vending machines and tables) is here:
Uni and Hotate (scallops) were all purchased inside the inner market.
You can shop yourself in the inner market after 09:00 or go with a shop owner anytime. Because Morita-san guided us, we were allowed entry.
Please contact Tsukiji Sushi Workshop for ingredient tours of the inner market.
Places and shops change over time so please note these places in the video may not be there in the future.
JAPAN: TOKYO STOCK EXCHANGE ENDS FLOOR TRADING
Japanese/English
The Tokyo stock exchange bid farewell to floor trading on Friday and welcomed in computerised trading to take the world's second biggest economy into the year 2000.
During the late 1980s, the daily frenzy on the floor of the Tokyo Stock Exchange was a symbol of Japan's energetic economy.
But with the country in recession - stock exchange officials say using computers will be a more economical way of running the country's economy.
The end of an era for these workers, carrying out floor trading for the last time.
From tomorrow computers rather than people will be running the exchange.
The decision to make the change comes in the wake of the Asian financial crisis which has plunged Japan into recession.
The use of computers and cost-cutting are putting an end to the 120-year old tradition of face-to-face trading on Asia's largest exchange.
Floor trading is still done in New York and Frankfurt, Germany, but other major exchanges have already gone electronic.
Since 1986, stock exchanges in Hong Kong, Singapore, London, and Paris have closed their trading floors.
The last deal in the Tokyo Stock Exchange was made at 0300gmt on Friday.
Stock exchange officials held a special closing ceremony to mark the end of an era.
SOUNDBITE: (Japanese)
It has been 120 years since the birth of stock market in this country. Since then, this trading floor has been the place where people meet and stock price to be determined and to be informed to public. This place has also been the symbol of economy.
SUPER CAPTION: Mitsuhide Yamaguchi, Chairman, Tokyo Stock Exchange
Stocks have been traded on the Tokyo exchange since 1878, though the market was closed for almost four years from 1945 as the country focused its attention on waging war..
The huge open floor of the Tokyo bourse was once crowded with more than 2-thousand traders fighting for position as they used a complex sign language to buy and sell stocks.
On Friday, after the end of the trading day, a closing ceremony with confetti and party noisemakers was held.
A dozen securities-industry veterans demonstrated what is soon to be a lost art - trading by hand signals with which (m) millions of dollars worth of shares could be bought with the wave of a finger.
Securities companies began switching to faster and more reliable electronic trading systems in the early 1980s.
By last year, any Japanese stock could be bought and sold electronically while fewer than 10 percent could be traded directly on the floor.
Only about 100 employees still worked there and floor trading accounted for a scant 0.2 percent of Tokyo volume.
Trading floor veterans said the shift to computers was inevitable, especially because of the growing complexity of financial markets.
SOUNDBITE: (Japanese)
I cannot tell how lively the market is going to be. I have concerns over that.
SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop
SOUNDBITE: (Japanese)
I worked here for 40 years. This is nothing but sad farewell to me.
SUPER CAPTION: Voxpop
Much has changed since the formal stock exchanged opened.
In the early years traders wore kimono and wooden shoes and exchange officials tallied transactions with abacuses.

Seoul, South Korea and Tokyo, Japan
Not only are they two of the most important cities in Asia, they're two of the most important cities in the world. Both the biggest in their respective countries, and yeah, both dominate politically, economically, and culturally in their respective countries. It's really hard not to be overshadowed by them. About 25% of all Japanese residents live in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Oh yeah, and that metropolitan area is THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD, with 37.8 million people. Sooooo many people.
But Seoul has the fifth largest metropolitan area in the world. Look at all THOSE people. Wow. It has a population of around 25.6 million people. And even though it only makes up about 12% of South Korea’s total area, it’s home to almost HALF of South Korea’s total population. Woahness.
Both are the capitals of their respective countries. Both are filled with magnificent modern buildings that could easily provide a reliable backdrop for any film set in the near-future. Why? Because war devastated both cities during the 20th century.
Even though both are megacities, both are surprisingly clean and sleek.
Both are all about trade, leading the world in both exports and imports. It’s easy to get around in both cities. Both have amazing public transportation, and huge rail networks. Tokyo has the busiest metro system in the world, and Seoul has the third busiest. Tokyo is famous for having so many people packed onto subways during rush hour that they literally have to be pushed onto trains to fit. The city has pushers, or railway station attendants who push people onto trains so they fit. Yes, this is real footage. Public transport is cheaper in Seoul.
Both are two of the most visited cities in the world. (T-8th most, S- 10th most)
Both have a fairly homogeneous ethnic population. Most Seoulites are Korean, and most Edokkos are Yamato Japanese. Now, this is starting to change since the foreign born population in both cities has steadily increased in recent years.
TATTOO CONVENTION in BAKUTO osaka バクト大阪2010
Company Overview:
Bakuto Osaka 2010 General Information
September 18th and 19th 2010
@The Namura Shipyard Complex in South Osaka
BAKUTO from 2008 onward to 2010
In 2006 the first BAKUTO (lit. exploding city) exhibition was held in Shinjuku, Kabukicho. At an abandoned Cabaret in Kabukicho for one night 800 people mobilized and an illusion became a legend. Again in 2008, September 6th and 7th at Osaka's Namura Shipyard a second exhibition was held -- it was host to over 2000 guests and became known as BAKUTO 208″.
Finally this year will see the second major BAKUTO event, BAKUTO OsucKA 2010. Dancers, musicians, film makers, artists, cooks, fashion designers, tattooists and even robot builders from inside and outside Japan will converge again on the shipyard to display their cutting edge arts. In a genuine display of artists and audience coming together as one the event will open as a matsuri or festival setting.
With Osaka at the center we wish to express the efforts of artists around the world to a wider audience This is the original idea behind Bakuto. Now as it expands into it's second stage, we wish to widen the scope of the event to include a variety of different artistic genres and encourage growth within and exchange between those genres.
However this is not merely a festival gathering in Osaka to show off two years of effort by the original participating artists nor is it only an introduction of new young talent,... it is a chance to personally experience in an instant a leveling up from Japan to the entire world. This is the essence of BAKUTO OsucKA. (read less)

Mission:
CONCEPT
In 2007 the Namura shipyard venue was recognized by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) as a heritage site of modernization of industry. Inside the expanse of ruins of the seaside shipyard, a festival of the arts will be held -- an ideal concept brought to life by both artists and participants alike.
By ideal setting we do not mean only a focus on humans and enterprise for financial benefit. The goal we wish to attain is the continued building of an event where participants also experience a positive spiritual benefit.
What this event is aiming at is establishing an environment of free expression without bounds for any person. We wish to shine a light on the existing problem of such venues for creativity gradually disappearing. It is important for creators themselves to take that first step forward.
TATTOO CONVENTION in BAKUTO
Day 2 on the 4th floor / Nattsu & Benny of Chopstick Tattoo
60 tattoo artist booths form Osaka's FIRST Tattoo Convention
A chance for guests to experience tattoos up close and personal -- not just as a fashion accessory but the artistic and cultural facets of the Tattoo World.
All participation information is in both English and Japanese, available at the links provided below!

___________
The Onin War tore Japan apart, but also kicked off the Sengoku Jidai or Warring States Period that's a seminal part of Japanese history. The power of the shogun dissolved and regional clan leaders or daimyo fought for control of the country. In the mid 16th century, near Kyoto, a clan called the Matsudaira found itself pinched between two great rivals: the Oda and the Imagawa. Abducted as a hostage by the Oda, the scion of the Matsudaira clan (the young Tokugawa Ieyasu) grew up to fight alongside of the Imagawa when he was released. Their combined forces threatened to destroy the entire Oda clan, but Oda Nobunaga had a different idea. They clashed at the Battle of Okehazama.

S. Korean PM's Japan trip this week expected to help thaw frosty Seoul-Tokyo relations
이총리 20일 일왕즉위식 참석, 24일 아베와 회동... 막힌 한일관계 물꼬 트이나
South Korea's Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon will be heading to Japan tomorrow to attend the Japanese Emperor Naruhito's enthronement ceremony.
He's also set to hold brief talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Thursday, which is expected to give us some clues as to whether a summit between South Korea and Japan will be possible in the near future.
Oh Jung-hee reports.
Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon is heading to Japan for a three-day trip on Tuesday, to attend Japanese Emperor Naruhito's enthronement ceremony.
Later in the day, the PM will attend the dinner banquet and exchange greetings with the Japanese Emperor.
Then on Thursday, he'll sit down for a brief one-on-one with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Lee is expected to deliver a friendly message from President Moon, calling for deeper cooperation and more amicable bilateral ties.
Among South Korean politicians, Lee is regarded as a Japan expert, speaking fluent Japanese without the help of interpreters.
Once a Tokyo correspondent for a South Korean daily and later a member of the Korea-Japan lawmakers' union, Lee is known to be well-acquainted with political and economic leaders in Japan.
Once last year, Lee met with Emperor Naruhito.
We had an opportunity to talk about a lot of things when we met at the World Water Forum in Brazil.
His ties with Prime Minister Abe date back even further.
I remember drinking soju with him on a rainy weekend in Seoul when he came here in 2005 before becoming the Chief Cabinet Secretary.
If the Prime Minister's Japan trip proves successful, eyes will turn to the possibility of a summit between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
That could happen naturally on the sidelines of the many international events taking place next month such as the ASEAN+3 summit in Thailand and the APEC summit in Chile.

Tim : Hi, everyone. Welcome back to Mission Japan. In this series, we talk about various embassies that occupy the diplomatic landscape in Tokyo. Today, I'm honored to welcome the Russian Ambassador, Mikhail Galuzin. Welcome!
Ambassador Galuzin : Thank you. Nice to meet you, pleasure to be here.
Tim : It's really great that you're here, Russia and Japan has such a long history... they are close, they're very close neighbors and the relationship between them is so critical, but the the pace of negotiations that have been going on recently with regard to the Kuril Islands is really a hot topic. But what I'd like to talk about first of all is the relationship between the nation of Japan and the Russian Federation: where it started and how we got to this wonderful piece of land that you have over at Ikura**.
Ambassador Galuzin: Well, if we talk about the origin of the Russian-Japanese relations, I would say that the first information or first knowledge of Japan had arrived to Russia, I think, in the mid of the 17th century or in the second part of the 17th century. This knowledge was say broadcasted to Russia by Russian diplomats who would visit China and who would know some information about Japan. One of these diplomats was Nikolai Spathari, who visited China in the 80s of the 17th century, and he was one of the first Russian nationals who brought some information of Japan to our country.
Tim : And, I'm sorry but at that time Japan was still in the Sakoku period, right? If you came, if you fell off the boat and landed in this country, you were killed immediately. And the other kind of interesting thing about this is that this foret** did not begin from the south, as it did with the Portuguese or the other countries, but actually from the north, isn't it?
Ambassador Galuzin : Well, what you say now happened later, a bit later. But, the Russian diplomats who first learnt about Japan, information about Japan, they didn't visit Japan during that time. As I mentioned above, they visited China and there they obtained first information. I agree, Japan was at that time in a period of Sakoku, which means closed country, and the Russian nationals could not reach Japan at that time. But in the 18th century, some of the Japanese fishermen sailors or traders they happened to arrive to Russia because the storm, or some weather disaster in the high seas, threw them to the Russian shore.
Tim: Okay, that would be up north.
Ambassador Galuzin: Yes. And they were saved by the Russian people there and some of them, let's say, started to live in Russia. Some of them as foreign nationals from a country which Russia didn't know about, they were received even by the Russian Emperors. For instance, a Japanese national whose name according to the archives was Denbei who was received by Peter the Great back in 1703, in Moscow. And after that, this Japanese man, Mr. Dembei, started to run the first-ever Japanese school, Japanese language school, in Russia and that is how the studying of Japanese language had started in Russia, more than three centuries ago. Then, there is a famous story described by Mr. Yasushi Inoue, a famous Japanese author in his renowned book Dreams of Russia. It is about the 90s of the 18th century, when Daikokuya Kodayu, a Japanese Japanese trader, a Japanese businessman let's say in modern terms, also was forced to arrive to Russia because his ship met a very strong storm in high seas. So, he came to Russia, he lived in Russia for a while, and then Mr. Adam Laxman, a special annoy of Empress Katherina The Great, brought him and one more Japanese national who was with him to the city of Nemuro (Hokkaido) back in 1792 to return them back to their home country and to try to establish relations with Japan. But, that time, though he left Mr. Kodayu and his associate in Japan, he failed to establish relations with Japan because of this policy of the Japanese government.
