Artist and feminist icon Judy Chicago gave a talk in Oslo
Judy Chicago talked on The First Supper Symposium in Oslo 25. May 2013. She talked about her struggle as a female artist.
Oslo Kunstforening was able to arrange an exhibition with Chicago at the same time. Queen Sonja of Norway met her in the exhibition and stated that she was a feminist.
This was an event arranged by First Supper Symposium to celebrate the centennial jubilee for women's vote in Norway.
First Supper Symposium's members was then Lisa Pacini, Gidsken Braadlie and Elizabeth Schei. Moderator dr. Hannah Helseth, photographer Janne Talstad.

Working with Sound sculptures.
After Photography: The Linguistics of Online Image Exchange | Charlie White | TEDxCMU
Charlie White will discuss how photography and the role of the photograph have shifted from a discrete commercial or personal function in society to a requisite extension of the self and a new form of visual language for a burgeoning sixth estate within contemporary culture.
Charlie White is a noted academic, photographer, writer, and filmmaker whose work explores America’s social fictions and collective identities. White has had numerous solo institutional exhibitions at venues including Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Domus Artium in Salamanca, Spain; and Oslo Kunstforening in Oslo, Norway; his work has also appeared in numerous group exhibitions such as the Singapore Biennial, the Hammer Biennial, and Art in America Now (organized by the Guggenheim Museum). White’s films have screened at the Sundance Film Festival and Director’s Fortnight in Cannes, and his photography has been featured in five monographs. White holds the position of professor and Head of School at the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

Hannah Ryggen. Weaving the world
12 June 2015–4 October 2015
Final Week!
The National Gallery
Hannah Ryggen (1894–1970) is one of the most significant Scandinavian artists of the twentieth century. Her tapestries are visual responses to major and minor events, conflicts and processes. She captured the world in her weaving. In the early 1930s, she addressed fascism and the destructive consequences of Nazi power. Violence and abuse are visualised in an idiom reminiscent of modern, critical history painting. Her narrative drive goes hand in hand with a free accentuation of abstract patterns, shapes and colours. The exhibition echoes a broad renewal of interest in Ryggen’s figurative and highly captivating modernism internationally. It is produced in collaboration with the Moderna Museet in Malmö.

For those of us living in the north the sun or lack of it has an immense impact on our lives. The artists Christine Istad and Lisa Pacini started the project by bringing the SUN from Oslo to Tromsø as a gesture. To take the SUN on the road trip was an essential part of the work. By documenting the trip on our blog, we allow viewers to share the trip with us. Our aim with our art project is to bring light to the dark winter months in the north, meet people and share with the rest of the world the beauty of the unspoiled nature that is to be found in all of the Nordic countries.
The SUN is a circular light sculpture, 3 m in diameter, that shifts between a wide range of warm colors. To make the road trip, it was suspended above a flatbed trailer that was pulled by a flat bed truck. The generator that powers the SUN is in the back of the truck, allowing us to drive with the light on all the time. The SUN was mounted on the second floor façade of Tromsø Kunstforening on arrival the, where it was installed from November 2012 until the sun officially returns from the long winter on the 19th of January 2013. The SUN then travelled all along the Norwegian west coast with Hurtigruten, M/S Nordkapp, mounted on the top deck, on a eight-day voyage from Tromsø to Kirkenes and finally to Bergen, then to Rjukan the winter 2013-2014, Henie Onstad Art Center in Oslo winter 2014-2015 and The Nordic House Reykjavik, Iceland winter 2015-2016. The whole journey is documented and added to our blog and road movies. The Traveling SUN i s sold to the National Library in Mo i Ranat Nort of Norway through KORO.

- After six months at the USF Verftet in Bergen the SUN was part of 100% Norway at the London Design festival in 2013.
- In October 2013, the SUN was mounted on the second floor façade of The Culture House at Rjukan. Rjukan was formerly a significant industrial centre in Telemark, Norway, established in 110 years ago when Norsk Hydro started production there. Rjukan was chosen because Rjukanfossen, a 104-metre waterfall, provided easy means of generating large quantities of electricity. This small valley between towering mountains is without a visible sun for approximately 6 months.
- Then the Traveling SUN was invited to Henie Onstad Art Center in Oslo the winter 2014-2015.
- Winter 2015-2016 the SUN is mounted on the roof of the Nordic House in Reykjavik, Iceland.
- Fall 2016 sold to National Library in Mo i Rana in Norway as a permanent installation via KORO.

Connecting the dots
Magne’s second solo album, 'A dot of black in the blue of your bliss', was first offered as a limited edition of 300, the covers hand painted as part of a large canvas and dismantled into its parts. The 300 covers were mounted together and painted as a single work during a painting performance in the bell tower at Oslo City Hall in January 2008.
The album sold out very quickly, even before the painting performance took place. Here is a video of the painting process, as well as other footage and imagery related to Magne's art - specifically the CLIMAX installation at the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.

Tromsّ is a city in the very northernmost part of Norway. It is almost 350 km north of the Arctic Circle and is one of the best places to view the spectacular Northern Lights in winter.
Tromsّ is a surprise to most visitors: Here you find art, history, sophistication, good food and an infamous nightlife in a bustling, tiny city. All of it, though, is surrounded by spectacular scenery that is visible from everywhere in town. The city is home to the world's northernmost university, as well as research institutes and satellite based industry. The population is therefore highly skilled, but retains the straightforwardness and sense of humour that the North is known for.

===================
Tromsّ's most visited attractions include Polaria, The Arctic Cathedral, The Cable Car, The Tromsّ Museum, the Polar Museum and the Botanic Garden.
Aurora
--------
The Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights is a natural light phenomenon in the night sky.
Tromsّ is very favorably located for viewing the Northern Lights, but you cannot see the aurora at all times.
Tromsّ is within the aurora belt mostly between 6pm and midnight, occasionally between 4pm and 2am.
It has to be dark for you to see it. Between late September and late March, it is dark after six, and you have maximum chances of seeing the lights.
Clouds obstruct the view of the Northern Lights. October and November are humid autumn months, and often you don't see the lights. From December onwards, the weather is drier. March is THE driest month in this six-month period of good chances.
Conclusion: December to mid/late March are the best times. Pick December/January for atmospheric visits in the dark, or February/March for thrilling outdoor activities. Sporty, outdoorsy people are recommended to come in March, as this month gives the opportunity to do outdoor activities in plenty of sunshine and good weather, and still observe the aurora after dark. The mid term holiday in February in many European countries is also a good time to come.
