THE Otter Trail... one of the coolest experiences of my life! A 20 kg pack, seaside cliffs, log cabins on the beach, dolphins, whales, friends! Need I say more? We made some friends on the Drakensberg trip, one of them named Dev, who invited us along on the 12-person Otter journey, where we made some lifelong friends while taking on an epic 5-day 45km hike! The trip to the start point was a journey in itself as we drove out of a hurricane in Cape Town, straight into massive wildfires on the Garden Route, but eventually it all worked out! Hopefully you enjoy the video, and maybe it'll even inspire you to do the trip as well!

Well for the many that have completed this trail I'm sure they will agree that the Otter trail is a true South African icon... relentless in the ups and extremely inspiring in its beauty.

Hiking the Otter Trail in the Garden Route National Park
The Otter Trail is one of South Africa's most popular trails and is known world-wide. It is a five-day trail, starting at the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp and stretching westward as far as the Groot River estuary at Nature's Valley for a distance of about 43 kilometres.

Braving the Tsitsikamma Otter Trail
Eastern Cape - The Otter Trail is on the bucket list of many an adventurer. The country’s premier hike explores 42-kilometres of untouched coastline. So if you have the legs for it, book soon, as SANParks says there’s a year-long waiting list.
The Mouth Trail - Tsitsikamma - Garden Route National Park
The Mouth Trail starts at Sandy Bay (next to the restaurant) and takes one along a winding boardwalk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storms River, the famous suspension bridge, the Storms River Mouth Cave (Khoisan Heritage Site) and to the Spirit of Tsitsikamma boat jetty. For the more energetic, the trail continues after the bridge and leads to the lookout point on the plateau. The journey to the bridge and back will take you approximately 40 minutes.

Tsitsikamma - Otter Trail Waterfall Hike
One of the top coastal walks in the world, at the furthest point is the amazing waterfall cascading into the sea. Filmed at Storms River Mouth - Tsitsikamma - Garden Route - South Africa.
This is the start of the Otter Trail, a 4 day hike which has to be pre-booked but you can walk the first part of it for free to the waterfall and back. You'll need to be sure on feet as its more like an easy scramble in many parts. The walk took us about 3 hours.

Otter Trail | Garden Route
The incredibly beautiful, 5-day Otter Trail starts at Storm's River and ends at Nature's Valley in South Africa's famous Garden Route. It covers 45km of scenic indigenous mountain forest, coastal fynbos and numerous river gorge's.
This is undoubtedly the best known and most popular South African hiking trail. It's a green flag status trail, offers rustic hiker's hut accommodation and requires good to moderate fitness.
We hiked this trail 11 September - 15 September 2018 quite comfortably using 35L and 48L backpacks.

The Otter trail is the oldest and undoubtedly the most iconic hiking trail in South Africa. The trail runs along the spectacular coastline between the Storms River mouth and Nature’s Valley. It is considered one of the finest multi-day trails in the world. It is named after the shy, mostly nocturnal, Cape Clawless Otter.

We leave our mansion and continue on our Garden Route adventure to Plettenberg Bay! The Garden Route is a popular coastal drive stretching 300km along the south coast of South Africa from Mossel Bay and Port Elizabeth. Lots of activities, views, hikes, canoeing, and bungy jumping!!
We spend the afternoon in Tsitsikamma National Park and trekked to Tsitsikamma Waterfall and the Storms River Suspension Bridge! Big afternoon of trekking through the coast it’s one of the must do treks when on the Garden Route! Could have easily spent another few days just in the National Park!!
