WILD CAMPING IN RAJASTHAN ⛺️ - The Way Overland - Episode 54
With a few days of Indian city life up our sleeves it was time to hit the road again and go exploring. Our next destination was Kumbhalgarh Fort aka The Great Wall of India. The fort gained its nickname from the enormous fort walls which extend over 36 kilometres, making it the second-longest continuous wall on the planet after the far more well-known Great Wall of China.
The drive from Udaipur to the fort was probably the shortest distance we've driven in India from one place to the next (India is a huge country with lots of nothingness in the middle!), as after a quick 100km journey through the countryside we'd arrived at the fort.
After arriving and having a look around we decided that we'd try and camp next to the fort. We had to play a little waiting game to make sure the guards were okay with us camping there, and thankfully, after an explanation about what we do and that it was only for the one night, they were happy to let us set up camp. What a cool place to camp!
The following morning after breaky and a delicious coffee (thanks Kristy!) we packed up and hit the road again, this time for the Thar Desert in the very western corner of Rajasthan, 500km away. Thankfully the road there was very good and we made it there in good time.
Driving out to the desert we were surprised to be greeted with a road full of identical desert glamping camps and about 1000 camels ready to be ridden. To top off this desert experience there was techno music blasting. Can you think of anything more relaxing?! :P
It's safe to say we got away from this area quick smart, locked in the hubs, followed a dirt track and found ourselves a nice little spot to set up in the dunes just in time for sunset. We managed to get away from the crowds temporarily until they all joined us for sunset, thankfully after they left we had the whole place to ourselves for the rest of our time in the dunes. We had a laugh about it that night how different cultures have different motives to go to remote places; in Australia we love going to the outback to enjoy the peace and quiet whereas I don't think many of our fellow travellers in the Thar Desert were doing much of that!
The following day we had a few visitors, first off was a group of women carrying sticks across the dunes on their head whilst dressed beautifully in their saree's, then a cute doggo who seemed to be having a case of indigestion, and finally a local busker who put on a live performance using a Rajasthani instrument. Doggo stuck around for the whole afternoon and was very impressed with the show!
That's it for episode 54, thanks for watching! In the next one we'll be finishing off our time in India!

Bishnoi Village Camp and Resort, an ethnic getaway in Jodhpur
Bishnoi Village Camp & Resort is a unique camp, resort in Jodhpur Rajasthan that provides best budget luxury accommodation facility. Bishnoi Village is situated about 22 K.M. en-route to Udaipur.
A village kind of set up can be seen in the video. Interiors of mud hut are simple and colourful. Its reminds you of typically Rajasthani houses or huts.
Bishnoi religion was founded by great visionary Saint Guru Jambheshwar Ji in year 1485AD(Vikram Samwat 1542, Kartik month, Krishna 8th) on SAMRATHAL DHORA ( Sand Dune ) near Nokha in Bikaner District of Rajasthan (India).
Bishnoi is not only a caste it is simple art of living. A person who follow 29 rules laid by Guru Jambheshvar Ji is a Bishnoi (unteesh dharma ki aankadi, hridhya dhare joye, bishnoi naam soy). All the 29 rules have no complicated rituals. It is simple and scientific way of living. Most of rules are either to protect environment or for personal hygiene.
A true bishnoi person and village can be easily recognized because of following 29 rules which show in form of healthy physical appearance, surrounding green environment, fresh atmosphere and freely roaming wild animals near their houses.
The forthcoming disaster of global warming was perceived by the saint Guru Jambheshwar Ji more than 500 years back and suggested most viable and sustainable solution for the same through the teaching of 29 principles.
Bishnoi people have their self sustained economy by farming and animal husbandry. Most of normal life essentials are their own produced like food grains, milk, butter, cooking oil, masalas, cotton, wool.
