테헤란로 - Walking on Teheranro, Seoul, Korea
Teheranno (alternatively Teheran-ro, translation Tehran Boulevard) is a street in the Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea. It runs from Gangnam Station through Yeoksam-dong and into Samseong-dong. It is colloquially known as Teheran Valley (after Silicon Valley) due to the number of internet-related companies operating there. The district of Gangnam-gu experienced phenomenal growth and waves of construction, with Teheranno becoming one of the busiest streets in South Korea. Its counterpart, Seoul St. in Tehran, Iran, runs in the north of that city, close to the Evin district.
Teheranno is a 3.5 km section of Seoul City Route 90, and runs eastwards from Gangnam Station to Samseong Station and the COEX/KWTC complex. Yeoksam and Seolleung stations are also on Teheranno. All stations are on Seoul Subway Line 2.
Some of Korea's tallest skyscrapers and most expensive real estate are in Teheranno, while Seoul Metropolitan Government estimates that more than half of Korea's venture capital, some 200,000,000,000 won (approximately $200,000,000), is invested in Teheran Valley.
Teheran-ro was named after Seoul's sister city, Tehran, which is the capital of Iran. Most of Korea's major corporations are located here, lighting up the night view of the sky. You can experience traditional Korean culture at Korea Cultural House and enjoy great performances at LG Art Center.
Teheran-ro has been called the center of Korean IT industry since 1995. Many IT venture companies, such as Ahn Lab, THRU-net, Netian, etc selected Teheran-ro area for their offices. It is often called as Teheran Valley, named after Silicon Valley of California.
Representative landmarks of Teheran-ro include LG Art Center and Gangnam Finance Center. LG Art Center is the cultural hub in the middle of Gangnam where we can appreciate quality performances. POSCO Tower is also famous for its outdoor art piece named ‘Amabel’ of Frank Stella. Inside the tower, POSCO Art Museum((poscoartmuseum.org) is housed with the collection of ‘Cheori Cheolcheol-TV Chandelier, TV Tree’ by Nam June Paik.

2 minutes at Jonggak - ???????? TRAVEL KOREA
See what it's like to sit at Jonggak for 2 minutes in this video. Just another day in Seoul...
The tall building is the Samsung Jongno Tower and the older traditional looking building on the right is the Bosingak. The Bosingak is a bell pavilion which has history that goes back to 1396. The structure has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The most current structure is from the late 1800s.
I always love the mixture of old and new architecture and design in Seoul. It is truly a beautiful thing to see and experience.
Thank you for watching, we really appreciate the support!

KIAF2011 - Refracted Time
2011.09 / COEX HallA,B / Architectural Sculpture, Madmapper, VDMX, Quartz Composer, Syphon
Planning - Kiheon Shin
Design - Kiheon Shin, Youngho Lee
Visual Programming - Youngho Lee

Objective of the Exhibition
This artwork is aiming for multiple spectators to appreciate and participate in it comfortably, which is positioned in the corridor connecting the Hall A and Hall B of COEX, the venue of KIAF(Korea International Art Fair) 2011. It is the artwork that has been planned conforming to the request of KIAF organizer from the beginning. There had been a great worry initially to provide the balance of having the value of artwork as well as satisfying various requests including interactivity by the KIAF organizer.
Constitution of the Artwork
Refracted Time has utilized the crystal as an objective medium connecting the inside and outside of the space through the space installation work added up with the virtual layer of interactive media in the physical space of black rectangle. The crystal has been installed in the sense of floatation inside the space to collect the eyes of spectators.
Concept of the Artwork
The black space refracts the video image of the attribute of light and the concept of time simultaneously, which is changing gradually through the process inflowing the external situation into the space. The floating crystal is passing and refracting the external visual images. The spectators in the entrance can find themselves reflected on the crystal, and the reflection of external environment generates diverse variations while they are entering into the space, which jumbles the thought of spectators. The process of finding oneself in the crystal is recorded in the video image, which is projected like a sculpture in the form of standstill time around the circumference of the space. It is going to record all the various instances continuously throughout the exhibition.
Metaphor
Crystal has the physical characteristics of beam refraction as well as the transparency. The crystal shown in this artwork comprehends the physical property and optical attributes of reality in the virtual space, rules over the thought and behavior of the spectators, and plays the role to induce out diversified actions and responses of them.

Arts & Culture: Part 2 - Local museums having great success
A great list of very popular and successful musicals that are currently running here in Seoul.
That's right, and I think that the musical Mamma Mia is a great example for the creators of musicals here in Korea, by using the music of established musicians would be a great template for musicals.
Alright, thank you for that. But, today you also have news about smaller art venues in and just outside of Seoul, correct?
That's right. These are venues that are smaller in scale compared to larger and more well-funded venues, but are nonetheless having great success.
When you think of a smaller, local art venue, one does not contain grandiose works of art, you could think about something like the Yangpyeong County Art Museum, just southeast of Seoul.
The museum has had more than 300,000 visitors since its inception just two short years ago, which is three times the size of the local population.
Visitors from all over the country come to visit, and its current second anniversary exhibition is a roaring success, with an average of 1,500 visitors per day.
Here, children can express themselves any way they want without any kind of discomfort. You can also see the artwork up close, so it's very nice.
The area is very nature-friendly and there are lots of things to see. So I come here often with my family.
And the secret to the museum's success? Professional management and experienced curators who put together exhibitions that are both modern and up to date.
The museum has been created so that families and people of any age can come to visit. And there are a lot of interactive exhibits for visitors, so anybody can come at anytime to enjoy a variety of modern and contemporary art at our museum.
Meanwhile, the Seongbuk District Museum in Seoul is also seeing an increase in visitors as well.
It opened its doors in 2009 and, despite its small size, the quality of its exhibitions rivals that of larger and more established art venues.
This is evidenced by the 30 percent increase in visitors in 2013, compared to the previous year.
Our museum always runs a tour, where visitors can view exhibitions one-on-one with docents, so it makes the works on display much more accessible. Also, the subject of our exhibitions aren't too heavy, we focus on exhibitions that tell a story.
The reputations of these two smaller, but well-established art venues have spread by word of mouth, and the two establishments have become focal points for benchmarking by many other similar venues.
Which is, hopefully, a sign that more smaller, local art venues that promise great quality exhibitions will be created in the future.
This seems like a sign of great things to come for the local arts community, not just in larger cities, but in smaller and more rural communities as well.
That's right, I see this as a huge step forward toward spreading the work of artists, which will hopefully inspire a younger generation of aspiring artists. Because the way I see it, local venues such as these offer an easily accessible source of inspiration.
Indeed, the more accessible these types of venues are, the more people, especially the young, can enjoy art.
Which would be like planting a seed of creation and hope in the next generation.
Alright, well, thank you, Tae Ho, for that wonderful report today and we'll see you again tomorrow.
Have a great afternoon.
South Korea's Public Art is Not for Art's Sake
In recent years, South Korean cities have seen sculptures, paintings and all manner of artistic installations sprout like mushrooms, both inside and outside of office buildings. Many critics think the attempt at urban improvement is not a pretty picture.

2007 Korean Culture Experience Tour
BROADCASTED ON ARIRANG CHANNEL KOREA.
It gives me pleasure to share my experience regarding dynamic Korea. When I heard the term dynamic Korea for the first time, I really wanted to discover the fact behind this term. Thanks to KOIS (Korean Overseas Information Service) which organized a tour for overseas students under the Ministry of Culture and Information. The purpose of this tour was to assist foreign students better understand Korea and to disseminate information about Korea. Fortunately I joined this tour and explored the rich history, culture, beauty as well as the dynamic development of Korea.
On July 3, 2007, we gathered in Seoul and left for Gyeong-ju by bus. On our way to Gyeongju I learned about partition of Korea by watching a popular Korean movie (tai guk gi). Upon our arrival to Gyeong-ju we went to Gyeongju National Museum, which gave me abundant knowledge of Silla dynasty (57 BC - 935 AD). The museum contains considerable number of relics of the Silla kingdom. My visit to Anapji (an artificial pond in Gyeongju National Park), Cheomseongdae and Royal burial mounds intensified my knowledge about great Silla dynasty. Especially I was glad to visit one of the oldest surviving astronomical observatories in East Asia called Cheomseongdae -- which proves the scientific work of Silla kingdom. We went to Shilla Milleniuk Park for accommodation. After dinner we watched an incredible live performance in Silla Millenium Park. This performance plays a pivotal role in enriching my understanding about Silla dynasty. At the end of first day I learned more than I expected about Korea.
On the next day we went to Pohang by bus. We took ferry from Pohang to Ulleungdo Island. It took around 4 hours to reach Ulleungdo Island. After taking lunch we took another ferry to Dokdo. Dokdo islets belong to South Korea from records that date back to the sixth century during the unified Silla period and was officially incorporated into
modern Ulleung county in 1900. South Korea currently controls these islets by the name of Dokdo but it is also claimed by Japan where it is known as Takeshima. We climbed to top of the rock with flags of dynamic Korea in our hands. We stayed there around one hour and enjoyed the awesome beauty of Dokdo. We raised flags of dynamic Korea and proved these Solitary islands to be in Korean territory. We went back to Ulleungdo for accommodation in Dae-A resort. At the end of second day I explored the natural beauty of South Korea and learned about the history of Dokdo.
On the third day we attended a lecture about the history of Dokdo. Various historical evidences were presented to prove that Dokdo belongs to South Korea. Furthermore we went back to Pohang by ferry and from Pohang to Golgulsa by bus. My stay at Golgulsa was an unforgettable experience for me where I practiced different ways of meditation. Golgulsa also called Stone Buddha Temple is situated 20km east of Gyeongju and is the only cave temple in Korea. I learned about Buddhism and the life style of monks. We took our dinner at the temple and slept early, because we had to get up at 4:30 am- according to temple rules. The next day we got up at 4:30 am and went to temple where we practiced Yebul and walking meditation. A demonstration regarding Sunmudo was given to us. On the top of it, I practiced Sunmudo (a buddhist martial art) by myself and experienced the monk's lifestyle at temple. On the same day we traveled to Pohang Iron and Steel Company POSCO- the third largest steel producer in the world. We visited POSCO museum and learned about the enormous technological growth of POSCO and its influence on the world. POSCO was our last spot. Finally we returned to Seoul and all participants went back home with great pleasure and considerable information about Korea.
Once and for all I would express my extreme gratitude to KOIS which gave me the opportunity of learning and exploring the dynamic Korea. The three days tour will last for ever in my life.
I love Korea!!!
