Atomic Kings: Desert Wasteland (Part 5 of 5) Los Alamos, New Mexico Snowboarding
Part 5: The Aftermath. One season later after the original filming of this video, The Las Conchas Fire erupted through the Jemez Mountains and in the process burned the first chair built on Pajarito along with the treasured west side of the mountain. The season didn't turn out great either. Snow didn't come until a little after new years and the remainder of the original crew along with a few new best friends gathered second hand snow from the ice rink to start off the season. Even after the snow came, the crew did what they could for the short time they spent together that season. In the end I couldn't have asked for anything more. Special thanks to all the friends that made these memories possible. 505 Represent!!

Ep. 64: Los Alamos & Santa Fe | New Mexico RV travel camping
Apparently it's not if you'll have a trailer tire blowout, it's when you'll have a trailer tire blowout. And on our way to Los Alamos, we experienced our first blowout -- on a tire we bought only five days earlier in Episode 63! We safely rolled into Los Alamos and found a perfect high-altitude campsite nestled among the Aspen trees, from which we explore the Puebloan ruins at Bandelier National Monument, learn about Los Alamos' important history in ending World War II, hike Pajarito Mountain and savor the southwestern flavor of Santa Fe.

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on YouTube, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

Prisoners given opportunity to train as firefighters
neighbors call it a crime magnet ... but that hasn't stopped them from fighting the biggest wildfires our state has ever seen. and this special group of inmates in los lunas is getting a chance at a new career opportunity. jeff maher is here with the story. jeff. it's called the inmate work camp program. it's run by new mexico state forestry, and puts non-violent inmates in a setting that goes far beyond concrete walls and barbed wire fences. when the las conchas fire hit its peak -- and posed the biggest threat to los alamos, hundreds of firefighters stormed the lines. one of them, is serving a roughly two-year sentence at the central new mexico correctional facility in los lunas. pretty intense, there was a lot of fires up there, we were on structure protection at the pajarito ski area making sure that it didn't burn timothy duncan, who has fought in 14 different fires this year, is proud to have helped save the ski resort. it's like the only green spot on the mountain right now duncan is not alone. these are files, this is how we keep our tools sharp, and here is the one for the chain there are 59 other inmates who are now trained firefighters, including aaron evangel, who helped save a rancher's home at the loop fire. i never imagined when i came to prison that i would be fighting fires or doing some of the other stuff that i've done the inmates, under supervision, head out to the fires in these state forestry trucks -- this is where we keep all of our chainsaws and stuff like that and there's a long list of inmates waiting to sign up. they get out, they get fed normal food, they get to get away from the facility, a lot of the times they get treated like everyone else on the fire line we all make mistakes and i believe getting into this will definitely occupy my time a lot more and give me a reason to get out there and be a productive member of society again all three of those inmates i interviewed today plan to become firefighters once they are released from prison. one, says he's already gotten some job offers.
