Palafox Street Overview
Next Exit History is a project of the Departments of History and Engineering and Computer Technology at the University of West Florida, WUWF Public Media, and the University of South Florida Libraries Florida Studies Center.
The project gathers site-specific, scholarly content on historic communities and reproduces it in engaging electronic media, that incorporates rich metadata, including GPS information for use over a variety of delivery models.
The immediate goal of this project is to promote Florida history by creating audio and audio-visual historical podcasts, of 50 Florida towns. To be eligible for inclusion, a community must have a core of standing structures of historical significance and be easily accessible from one of the states four Interstate highways: I-10, I-75, I-95, or I-4. The podcasts that are produced as part of this project constitute an electronic repository of scholar-certified, historical content that is accessible to the general public.
The Blessing of the 121 Palafox Place
The busy Downtown Pensacola area received a rare treat Tuesday evening, Dec. 16, 2014. PensacolaToday.com’s Ron Stallcup, a self-styled Colusa Shaman, gave the, “Blessing of the Building,” at 121 Palafox Place. The renovated building will house Pensacola Today on the Palafox Place street front and the new state-of-the-art BlabTV studios in the back. With an ultramodern look and technology match, the building will become a crown-jewel in the revitalized Downtown district. The new office complex will have a staff of around 50 employees and still growing. This is another step in Quint and Rishy Studer’s mission to improve the lives of all the residents in Northwest Florida.
