Third Video of our Parambikulam trip. For the previous video please clickk the link.
Starting from Sethumadai check post of Anamalai Tiger Reserve we reached Kerala region after driving almost 30 kms through the dense forest to enter Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. Paid the entry fee at the check post and then checked in to Parambikulam Tiger Reserve. The tents for the stay was excellent and the food was yummy. Listening to the sounds of the birds and animals in the wild we had food and started for the activities.
Visited 2 dam sites, 2 view points and The famous Kannimara Teak tree the tallest teak tree in Asia. Leter watched the Tribal dance after doing a bamboo rafting in the Parambikulam lake for 30 minutes. The return journey in the night to the resort was thrilling as we could watch various wild animals. Still we couldnt watch the elephants from near. Just could see a group moving far away inside the forest. Over all it was a wonderful day at Parambikulam Tiger Reserve.

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, which also includes the erstwhile Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is a 391 square kilometres (151.0 sq mi)[2] protected area in Chittur talukin Palakkad district of Kerala state, South India. The wildlife sanctuary, which had an area of 285 square kilometres (110 sq mi) was established in 1973. It is in the Sungam range of hills between the Anaimalai Hills andNelliampathy Hills.[3][4][5] Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as part of the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve on February 19, 2010.[6][7][8] Including the buffer zone, the tiger reserve has a span of 643.66 km2. TheWestern Ghats, Anamalai Sub-Cluster, including all of Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is under consideration by theUNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.[9] The sanctuary is the home of four different tribes of indigenous peoples including the Kadar,Malasar, Muduvar and Mala Malasar settled in six colonies. Parambikulam Tiger Reserve implements the Participatory Forest Management Scheme (PFMS). People from tribal colonies inside the reserve are engaged as guides for treks and safaris, and are provided employment through various eco-tourism initiatives.[10][11] The tiger reserve hosts many capacity building training programmes conducted by Parambikulam Tiger Conservation Foundation in association with various organisations.[12]

Parambikulam Dam is an embankment dam on the Parambikulam River, Parambikulam located in the Palakkad district in the Western Ghats of Kerala, India,
ranks number one in India as well as in the top ten embankment dams in the world in volume in the year 2000.
This Dam was built at the time of Kamarajar. The dam is operated and maintained by Tamil Nadu but the ownership rests with Kerala,
Per the agreement with Tamil Nadu, Kerala was supposed to receive 7.25 TMC feet of water per year from the Parambikulam Aliyar Project of which the Parambikulam Dam is a part.
In 2004, Kerala did not receive any water after February 10, resulting in the drying up of paddy in thousands of acres in Chittur taluk.
Since this agreement has still not been met as of July 2006, Kerala Water Resources Minister has called for a review of the project agreement.
On 17 October 2012, Kerala and Tamil Nadu reached an accord on Parambikulam-Aliyar water.
Thunakkadavu Dam
Thunakkadavu Dam is situated in Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala across Thunacadavu River, which is a tributary of Parambikulam River,
in Palakkad district of Kerala, India. It is part of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project.This is a small balancing Reservoir with gross capacity is 557 Mcft.
The water that is received from Prambikulam Reservoir and from the Peruvaripallam Reservoir, as well as from its own catchment,
is diverted to the Sarkarpathy Power House through the Sarkarpathy Power Tunnel.
Kannimara Teak
Kannimara Teak Tree is one of the world’s largest living Trek tree found in Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, with an amazing height of 39.98 m, girth pf 7.15 m (at breast height) and aged 465 years approximately.
The tree has been awarded (Mahaviriksha Puraskar) by the Government of India during 1944-95.
According to the local tribal belief, when this tree was tried to cut down, blood spurted out from the place where it was cut. Since then, this tree was worshipped by the local tribals in Parambikulam as Virgin Tree. Thus the name Kannimara is given as he word Kanni means Virgin.

Parambikulam Tiger resrve is the second tiger reserve in Kerala after periyar tiger reserve. to Enter Parambikulam we have to enter through anamalai tiger reserve in Tamilnadu.
Sanchari Club is Travellers club Across Kerala. We were a team of 40 traveller travelling together for a NAture club program in Parambikulam which is a 2 day program. This video comprises of just Day 1 .Special Thanks to all Sanchari Team members for making this Trip successful.

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve
Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is a well protected ecological portion in the Nelliampathy - Anamalai landscape of the Southern Western Ghats in India. It is located in the Palakkad District of Kerala. It is one of the biodiversity hot spot in the world supports diverse habitat types and endemism. Considering its biological richness, abundance of wildlife and landcape beauty makes Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is one of the most attractive places in the entire stretch of Western Ghats. It was declared as Tiger Reserve during 2009 with total area of 643.66 SqKm, which includes core area of 390.89 and 252.77 Sq Km Buffer area.
Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is the most protected ecological piece of Anamalai sub unit of Western Ghats, surrounded on all sides by protected areas and sanctuaries of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the sanctuary is endowed with a peninsular flora and fauna which are excellently conserved due to total protection and minimal human interferences. The sanctuary being a major ecological continuum from Peechhi to Eravikulam through Anamalai aids the large viable populations of wildlife. It is the home ground for different races of indigenous people who are as well an integral part of the prevailing harmonious ecosystem. The thick, opulent habitat of the sanctuary with ample water supplys make it an abode for wildlife and there by for tourist who can have treasured memories of animal sightings and that of being in the lap of mother nature.
