Old Saddle Road Drive Starting in Waimea (Kamuela) Hawaii on the Big Island
My neighbor and I take a drive on the old Saddle Road beginning in Waimea, Hawaii on the Big Island. It started off overcast then went to downpour then nice blue sky. Waimea is where Parker Ranch Headquarters is located.

YETI Presents: Parker Ranch
Thousands of miles west of mainland United States you'll find the legendary paniolo - the cowboys of Hawaii. What began with a gift of a few cows and a bull to the King in the 1700s has grown into a ranch community that's passed down their hunting, cowboying, and fishing styles for generations. YETI Ambassador Chris Malloy visits the Big Island to learn from the legends.

Hawaii and cowboys. It does not seem to fit at all, but on the Big Island, cowboys have a long tradition. The rodeo festival, where Big Island cowboys compete, has already been in its 44th year. It is one of the most famous annual events here. As well as the cowboys who perform the contest, the people who come to see them concentrate on the game. Unlike ordinary cowboy culture, which is regarded as the exclusive property of men, the cowboy culture of Hawaii is a family culture that continues regardless of sex. Some families have been living cowboys for years. Should we say that time is passing through us? I live in the heritage of the Ohana family. The cowboys of the future brave the sheep. If it falls so hard, it will make you feel sick, but the children are tough. Now, if they are tired but do not lose the same courage now, these kids will grow up to be some sort of Hawaiian cowboy someday. I think many people mistakenly think Hawaii is all about Waikiki. But I want to talk. Hawaii is more than just a beach. My friends say Hawaii is a beach with palms and coconuts. But come up once in the mountain. I can see panoramic young panorama. Ups, beautiful meadows, cowboys and horses. It's a completely different world. Many of my friends also came here and did not know they had any place like this. Big Island, where you can see the overwhelming nature of Hawaii and the attitudes of people living in it. It was an attractive island without a luxurious resort.

Parker Ranch, Hawaii (Big Island)
Überall wo man hinschaut, sieht man große Flächen Weideland.

ThruJimsEyes - Hawaii: Driving the high road from Kona to Waimea
This is our favorite drive on the Island of Hawai'i. Mamalahoa Highway (The Path Of The Splintered Paddle) has great historic significance in Hawaiian history. The drive from Kona to Waimea is breathtaking with it's transition from the lush hills of Kona to the wide open spaces covered in lava rock and grasses to the cool, often wet, region of Waimea (Kamuela). When you drive this road remember to ask Akua (God) to share the wonders and the beauty of the island and you shall not be disappointed.

The island of Hawaii, which is the lowest of the Hawaiian Islands, is usually called the Big Island. This is because the area is the largest. Thanks to the still active volcano, Big Island is still growing in size. For Hawaiians, the volcano is Pelesin. All volcanic activity, large and small, is the will of Pele. Hawaii was born because of the volcanic eruption. There is a family on the beach with the remains of the volcano. Hey, kid, what's your name? Two years old. The child goes up to the rock with the wrong answer. Rather winds and waves were scary but I was gods. Hawaii is a big playground. A playground for kids? Yes. You do not have to spend money here to have a good time. You can just go out on a boat or stop by on the road and enjoy nature. It allows the children to climb the rocks. People and families gather together and enjoy life here. Here people live the moment. I have to enjoy the moment. I can not tell when the lava will hit the backyard. In fact, in May, the Kilauea volcano exploded on the Big Island. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the volcano filled up a huge pool of 100,000 and spewed out huge amounts of lava. Hundreds of houses and a tremendous amount of forests were covered with lava, and many lost their lives. There was only a trace of lava in the place where pelesin passed. The lava that pushes in the forest and leaves the scenery like the end of the century. How will Hawaiians accept these volcanic eruptions? Should this even be accepted as Pele 's will? I had a complicated mind in the landscape that I had never seen before. Not far from the volcano scene, a family was fishing. Reagan, catch the fish. Grabbing a big one I think my grandson has something in his grandfather's hand. My grandfather does not lose his prudence until the end. Eventually, they caught a small dome. What did the recent volcanic eruptions mean to them? Did you catch it? Yes. There was a volcanic eruption. I am scared when a volcanic eruption happens like that. Nobody wants the lava to hit his house. But I have to accept it anyway. In fact, we live in the land of Pelesin. So you have to think that Pelesin is creating new lands and beaches for future generations. I can not enjoy it, but it's for my grandson and grandson's grandson. For the Hawaiians, volcanic eruptions were not simply disasters, but blessings for future generations. The belief that even though it is now painful, it is for his grandson and granddaughter. That faith was the power to keep them alive.
