El Paseo del Prado es uno de los bulevares más importantes de la ciudad y comprende la vertical desde la Plaza de Cibeles hasta la Plaza del Emperador Carlos V. Conocido como el Paseo del Arte, en él se ubican los museos del Prado, el Thyssen-Bornemisza y el Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.

Paseo del Prado ( Meadow's Walk) is one of the main and most famous avenues in Madrid. Bordered by trees and with pedestrian corridors, it links the Glorieta de Atocha (Atocha Roundabout) with Plaza de Cibeles (Cybele's square). Two of the main museums in Madrid are located in the Paseo: the world-famous Museo del Prado and Museo Thyssen-Bornsemysza. There are also other important buildings along the Paseo like the Bank of Spain, the Navy headquarters with a museum (Museo Naval) and the new City Hall (the old Post Office or Palacio de Correos).
Designed in the 18th centruryy as a leisure street, it has several monumental fountains from the same period: Cybele´s, Neptune´s, Apollo´s and the for small Fuentes de las Conchas (Shells ´fountains).
At one side of the Paseo is the Plaza de la Lealtad (Loyalty´s square, with an obelisk in memory of the heroes of the Napoleonic Wars and the building of the stock excange (Palacio de la Bolsa).

El Paseo del Prado es una de las más famosas e importantes avenidas de Madrid. Está rodeado de árboles y tiene areas peatonales a ambos lados. Enlaza la Glorieta de atocha con la Plaza de Cibeles. Se situan en el dos de los principales museos de Madrid: el famoso Museo del Prado y el Museo Thysen-Bornesmiza. Además de estos museos, situados en edificios históricos, en el Paseo se encuentran otros edificios importantes como el Banco de España, el Cuartel General de la armada (con el Museo Naval) y el nuevo Ayuntamiento, antiguo Palacio de correos.
El Paseo se diseño en el siglo XVIII, y mentiene de aquella época varias fuentes monumentales: Cibeles, Neptuno, Apolo y las fuentes de las Conchas al lado del Museo del Prado.
A un lado del Paseo se abre la Plaza de la Lelatad, con el belisco en memoria de los heroes del 2 de mayo de 1808, y el edificio de la Bolsa. En el Paseo se sitúan también los dos hoteles históricos más importantes de Madrid: el Ritz y el Palace

Covering the area from Plaza de Neptuno to Atocha, Paseo del Prado can be considered the core of aristocratic and institutional Madrid: The area contains the Prado Museum, the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, Reina Sofía National Art Centre Museum, the Jardín Botánico (Royal Botanical Gardens), Palacio de las Cortes -the Spanish Parliament-, the fountains of Cibeles, Neptuno, and the Puerta de Alcalá -three of Madrid's icons-, the Bank of Spain, the Madrid City Headquarters, Spain's Stock Exchange, The Zarzuela Theater, Círculo de Bellas Artes and Casa América -two of the best cultural institutions of the city-, Hotel Ritz, Hotel Palace....and some of our favorite tapas bars. It's also an exceptionally quiet area given its central location.
The area between the Paseo de Prado and the Parque del Retiro, is well known for the splendid houses it has.

The Paseo del Prado is one of the main boulevards in Madrid, Spain. The Paseo del Prado is the oldest historical urban in Madrid and was declared Bien de Interés Cultural.
It runs north-south between the Plaza de Cibeles and the Plaza del Emperador Carlos V (also known as Plaza de Atocha), with the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo (the location of the Fuente de Neptuno, and of the Ritz and Palace five-star hotels) lying approximately in the middle. The Paseo del Prado forms the southern end of the city's central axis (which continues to the north of Cibeles as the Paseo de Recoletos, and further north as the Paseo de la Castellana).
This densely tree-lined, wide and centric avenue is a landmark for the city residents and the location of important cultural and tourist spots in the city, including the so-called Golden Triangle of Art, which encompasses three museums: the Prado Museum (with highlights such as Diego Velázquez's Las Meninas and Francisco de Goya's La maja vestida and La maja desnuda), the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (housing a collection that spans eight centuries of European painting), and the Reina Sofia Museum (where Pablo Picasso's Guernica hangs, among a collection of 20th-century art). In the vicinity are located the Parque del Buen Retiro and the Casón del Buen Retiro (hosting the 19th-century collection of the Prado Museum), as well as the headquarters of the Real Academia Española (the Spanish language academy), the Bolsa de Madrid (the city's stock exchange), and the Congreso de los Diputados (the national congress).
The Paseo del Prado boulevard includes several monuments and enclosures that are of historical and artistic interest, erected in the eighteenth century for the Hall of Prado urban project. Numerous ornamental and landscaping grounds were constructed for this project. The highlights of this project include the Villanueva Building, headquarters of the Prado Museum, the Royal Botanical Gardens and the sculptural water fountains of Neptune, Cibeles and Apollo.
A controversial project of thorough reform and revitalization of the Paseo del Prado and the Paseo de Recoletos, known as Plan Especial Recoletos-Prado and authored by an international team of architects led by Álvaro Siza, was approved by the city council on 23 June 2005, but as of December 2010 its environmental impact study is still underway and reconstruction has not been initiated.

El paseo del Prado es el jardín histórico urbano más antiguo de Madrid (España), declarado Bien de Interés cultural (BIC) y uno de sus bulevares más importantes. Se articula según un eje norte-sur, desde la plaza de Cibeles hasta la plaza del Emperador Carlos V, popularmente conocida como Glorieta de Atocha. A mitad de su recorrido confluye con la plaza de la Lealtad y con la plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, donde se ubica la fuente de Neptuno.
Junto con los paseos de la Castellana y Recoletos, que se extienden al norte, conforma uno de los principales ejes viarios de la ciudad, conocido como eje Prado-Recoletos, al conectar la zona septentrional de la misma con la meridional.
En el terreno cultural, el paseo del Prado alberga uno de los principales focos museísticos de España. En él se ubican los museos del Prado y Thyssen-Bornemisza y en sus inmediaciones se halla el Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, promocionados turísticamente bajo la denominación de Paseo o Triángulo del Arte.
En este paseo también se encuentran diferentes monumentos y recintos de interés histórico-artístico, levantados en el siglo XVIII dentro del proyecto urbanístico del Salón del Prado, además de numerosos motivos ornamentales y paisajísticos. Destacan el Edificio Villanueva, sede principal del Museo del Prado, el Real Jardín Botánico y los conjuntos escultóricos de las fuentes de Neptuno, Cibeles y Apolo.

Describe con precisión el estado del paseo del Prado durante el reinado de Carlos II. Muchos de los edificios que retrata han desaparecido o transformado tal y como vemos en este vídeo que nos permite acercarnos a ellos con cierto detenimiento.
