Hiking Torres del Paine Circuit & W in Chile (Patagonia Expedition #08)
Our last destination is the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile where we hike the circuit including the popular W trek in 8 days - here is what happened.

For weeks we prepared physically and mentally for our trekking adventure in the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. For me it was the second time doing the full circuit trek after I did the circuit back in 2013. The Torres del Paine circuit is also called the „O“ due to the shape of the trail - it also represents the extension of the „W“ trek which is most famous hiking route in Chile.
Before heading into the park we prepared in Puerto Natales where we bought all supplies needed and planned out our trip and route. We took the early bus into the park and left all the stuff we didn’t need for the trek at the Hotel Las Torres where we were supposed to stay after the finish of the trek.
This part of the trip was executed within 8 days and this is what we saw:
- Torres del Paine National Park
- Hotel Las Torres
- Campamento Serón
- Refugio Dickson
- Southern Patagonian Ice Field
- Campamento Los Perros
- Glaciar Los Perros
- Puerto Natales
- Campo Hielo Sur
- Campamento Paso
- Glaciar Grey / Grey Glacier
- Refugio Grey
- Refugio Paine Grande
- Campamento Italiano
- Mirador Britanico & French Valley / Valle Frances
- Refugio Los Cuernos
- Refugio Chileno
- Campamento Torres (CONAF)
- Lago Nordernskjöld
- Base Las Torres
- Valle Ascencio
- Lago Pehoe
- Paso John Gardner
I'm excited to share all our experiences in Patagonia in this video series. In the next episode we will do more tours in Torres del Paine National Park and meet more impressive characters along the way.
The Patagonian Expedition is a 95% self funded video documentary project following my trip in 2012/2013. Our aim is to show you the beauty of the rather unknown parts in Patagonia alongside with the famous spots.
Beside beautiful landscape you can expect loads of information and our personal experiences and struggles along the way.

PATAGONIA / TORRES DEL PAINE / HOTEL REMOTA/ CHILE
Hospedagem cinco estrelas incentiva viver a Patagônia
Hosting encourages five stars? Live to Patagonia?
The Remote Hotel immediately surprised by the way, the fruit of the genius architect of Chile Germán del Sol
The first major hotel to arrive at these stops was the Costa Australis. Until then the hotel in Natal was modest. Recently opened is the Altiplano Sur, a hotel of rustic and modern interior lines proving that tourism in Patagonia Southern Chile is growing and offering products of high level. Another hotel that can not be mentioned is the Explora Patagonia, located in the Torres del Paine National Park, until a few days ago the most chic and soft in the region. But now there is a five star to be lived. This is the Remote Patagonia that reaffirms the strength of that piece of the tourist world. This is a new work, or transgression of the Chilean architect Germán del Sol, creative genius responsible for the architecture and philosophy of Explora hotels in Atacama and Patagonia.
The Remote is the Style of a hall of extreme Patagonian ranch, with bold lines and surprising, built in concrete, glass and hardwood in the region, the oak and slate on the floor, purposely left without finishing materials. Their dwellings are uniform, there is no upper or suites, all standard, while a luxury premeditatively sober. The proposed hotel is that visitors come to this large and comfortable home and live the Patagonia in all its splendor and enjoy the stunning scenery of the mountains and Señoret Canal.
With capacity for 140 guests, the Remote offers Finnish sauna, outdoor jacuzzis, heated pool and closed, massage room and a spacious lounge and high-called total leisure, where you can relax in tatami-size marriage. The philosophy is to present to the remote Patagonia and its brutal beauty without clichés in programs that not only include accommodation and full board, with Chilean wine and soft drinks as well as thirteen different tours, from a simple walk at the town pier to rise the mythic basis of Torres del Paine.

Don't Visit Chile before You Watch This
Chile is a sinewy sliver of a nation, isolated from the rest of South America (and indeed the world) by the soaring Andes to the east, the vast Pacific Ocean to the west, the bone-dry Atacama Desert up north and the impenetrable wilds of Patagonia down south. From its disparate extremes to the ever-trendier capital of Santiago at its heart, the country’s citizens will unite in 2018 to mark 200 years of independence. Thanks to new non-stop flights from both London and Melbourne, it’s never been easier to catch a plane, raise a glass of pisco sour and toast the celebration.
1. Santiago-Chile
Santiago is one of those metropolitan joys where the more you look, the more you find. Funky cafes and dance clubs dot Bellavista, Forest Park art collections range from pre-Columbian to contemporary, and architecture runs the gamut from the 16th-century San Francisco Church to mirrored office towers. Shop with the locals at Mall Panora¡mico and give your palate meals to remember with hearty Chilean fare.
2. Easter Island
Located in the South Pacific more than 2,000 miles off the Chilean coast, Easter Island’s not the easiest place to reach. (If you’re interested, the easiest access is by air from Santiago or Tahiti.) But isolation has helped preserve the 1,500-year-old mysterious congregation of volcanic rock sculptures (maoi) that’s the island’s biggest claim to fame. After exploring the unique landscape, relax on an uncrowded beach and ponder one of the most mysterious places on Earth.
3. San Pedro de Atacama, Chile
Looking for an unusual and beautiful landscape? Sandstone canyons, flamingo-dotted salt flats, steaming geysers, hot springs, volcanic peaks and alien-looking rock formations are on offer all around San Pedro de Atacama. Hiking, biking and horseback riding are the preferred means of exploration. Death Valley here is surprisingly great for picnics.
4.Puerto Natales, Chile
Proximity to the stunning Torres del Paine National Park makes Puerto Natales a gateway to adventure. It’s the best place to stock up on supplies and get your gear in order before you hop a two-hour bus ride to the park. This is an area for nature lovers, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, sailing and exploring.
5.Puerto Varas, Chile
Explore lovely, compact Puerto Varas on foot, the best way to take in views of Osorno Volcano and the wooden colonial homes built by German immigrants in the early 1900s. Several are designated as national monuments. Located on the shores of Lago Llanquihue, Chile's second-largest lake, the village is the low-key antidote to the Lake District metropolis of Puerto Montt and serves as a jumping off point for fly-fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding and sea kayaking excursions.
Plan your trip to Puerto Varas
6. Pucon-Chile
Deep in the Patagonian Andes, Pucon is a picture perfect town accessed by plane in summer or by a nine-hour drive or train ride from Santiago. A great base for adventure vacations, Pucon is crammed with visitors during summer months December, January and February. Watch molten magma ooze down Mount Villarrica, hop between hot and cold thermal pools at Termas Geometricas or take the reigns of Criollo horses to explore the Andes on horseback. For other expeditions, rent a car or mountain bike.
7. Isla Chiloe, Los Lagos Region
Although it's only a 30-minute ferry crossing away from mainland Chile across the Chacao Channel, verdant Isla Chiloe – the largest in the Chiloe archipelago – is another world. Sixteen wooden churches clustered around Castro on the island's east coast have UNESCO World Heritage status, and traditional palafitos (houses on stilts) dot its shores. To the west, Chiloe National Park shelters foxes, sea lions and otters and provides unspoiled terrain for horseback riding, sea kayaking and fishing.
8. valparaiso-Chile
Only 70 miles northwest of capital Santiago, Valparaiso is Chile's main port and known for its bohemian, artistic vibe and lovely vistas. Its UNESCO-designated historic downtown offers charming colonial architecture, great seafood restaurants, markets and stores. Take 100-year-old funicular Ascensor Artilleria or climb Cerro Concepcion for stunning ocean and city views. Back at street level, visit writer Pablo Neruda's house.
9. punta arenas
Overlooking the Strait of Magellan, this isolated city in southern Patagonia bustles with windswept trekkers en route to glacier-filled Torres del Paine National Park or an Antarctic cruise.
