Driving through Lombok, Indonesia
We GOT ON THE WRONG Ferry in Bali!
This Episode:
Episode 7: We left Amed to head to Kuta, Lombok - or so we thought! We took the public ferry, and at the booth where we bought the tickets, the sign stated, Lombok, so we purchased two. We were expecting the ferry to be a 4 hour ride, but we docked after 1 hour, and were in Nusa Penida! We already had our hotel booked for Lombok, so we had to find WiFi to cancel that, and make a new booking in Penida's neighbouring island, Nusa Lembongan. It was a crazy travel day, but hey, things don't always go to plan, and when they don't, just go with it!
Thanks so much for watching guys! :)

On the ferry from Bali to Java, Indonesia
SOLO TRAVEL INDONESIA, FROM LOMBOK TO BALI BY FERRY.
For reverse engineers Bali solo travel indonesia vlog, I'm traveling alone from Lombok to Bali taking the public ferry. If you want to travel like a local, you should use the ferry as it's cheap and the perfect way to see how Indonesian locals move between islands.
From Lombok to Bali by public ferry, you will start at Lembar in Lombok. The public ferry only costs around 40.000 IDR and will take you about 5 hours to get to Padang Bai in Bali.
If you're traveling Bali solo like I did, and you like to meet Bali locals, this is the perfect way to do so.
Mostly I use flights to move between the islands of Indonesia. This was my first experience going from Lombok to Bali by ferry.
I'm trying to start from zero and make a living out of traveling. Please follow my journey:

So, everybody in Indonesia thinks I'm a local. They are always surprised when I say I'm actually from The Netherlands (ok, grew up in..).
I've already traveled from Bali to Lombok by airplane. These days an airline ticket between Lombok and Bali costs you around 400.000 IDR. But this transportation method is still not very accessible for a lot of locals. So they travel by ferry.
And in this video, I wanted to travel from Lombok to Bali like a local.
First, I started with a ride, on small inland roads through small villages, to go from Mataram to Lembar. In Lembar, you can take the ferry to Lombok. Fun fact: currently, the Indonesian government is busy building the 3rd largest harbor of Indonesia on Lombok.
The ferry between Lembar and Padang Bai (the harbor in Bali) only costs 46.000IDR. But the thing is, that there is no real schedule. You just have to show up at the harbor, buy a ticket and wait until you can get on board. On the other side, the ferry goes 24/7. That means you can also make it a night trip.
Fun fact 2: On Nyepi, the Hindu new year on Bali there will be no ferries or flights from and to Bali. On Nyepi, there's no electricity at all in Bali. No candles, no nothing.
The trip from Lembar to Padang Bai took me 5 hours including one hour waiting in the harbor bai.
Before departure, there were a lot of merchants trying to sell you all kinds of stuff. From coffee and fresh cut fruit to fresh peanuts and t-shirts. You could even buy lunch packages and PopMie.
For my last transportation method, I used Grab. That's like the local Uber. What should have been a 1 to 1.5-hour drive from Padang Bai to Canggu took me almost 2.5 hours due to the heavy traffic. Roads are very small and the amount of cars is crazy. This Grab ride cost me 185K for the actual ride + 50K as a tip because the driver was begging for it.
I wouldn't say that this wasn't the best trip as it took me 11 hours to get to my destination. If my calculations are right, a trip by airplane (including 2 taxi rides and waiting at the Airport) would take me only 5 hours. Next to that, a trip by airplane would have cost me around 600K (400 for ticket and 2x100 for Grab). The Ferry costed me in total 380K including two taxi rides. So for less than twice the amount of money and twice the speed, I know which transportation method I'm going to use next time.
But if you're on a budget, if you have all the time in the world and if you want to travel like a local...You should definitely take the ferry.
Fun Travels: Our Honeymoon to Bali and Gili Trawangan!
We traveled to Bali (and Gili Trawangan) in August 2017 for our honeymoon and visited many places in Kuta/Seminyak, Ubud, around Bali in general and Gili T. (as the locals call it). Information below on places we stayed and places we visited. Indonesia is a great country that you should definitely visit and everything is pretty cheap compared to the US! Great food, friendly citizens, and a nice atmosphere makes for a great vacation!
Much more information on the places we visited at the link below!
Places we stayed:
Kuta Villa
Ubud - Bungsil Gading (Mangga Room)
Gili Trawangan - Rumah Cahaya- Elephant Suite
Kuta - Puring Cottage
Snorkeling on Gili T. - we booked this when we arrived on Gili T. There are many many companies you'll see by the beach advertising snorkeling. Most of these companies have a morning and afternoon session. Make sure you go with one that has a glass bottom boat (I think most of them do). We paid $100k IDR per person (I think this is pretty much the standard price for the morning session). The trip was from about 10:30AM to about 1:30PM (they also brought us to a nice lunch spot on Gili Air for a lunch break, although lunch isn't included in the booking price).
More general information...
-MAKE SURE your passport has more than 6 months before expiration, or the Indonesian government will not let you into the country, no ifs ands or buts. We almost had to cancel our trip because of this. Luckily for dual citizenship, we were able to get through on a different passport. No visas required either!
-Taxi's - Only use Blue Bird Group taxi's. They are government regulated, so the drivers won't try and rip you off because you are a tourist. They have to set their fare meters before the ride starts so you know how much you'll have to pay at the end of the trip. We used these taxi's many times and every time, they did set the meter and didn't try to pull a fast one. They also have an app called mybluebird in the Apple AppStore and Google Play Store if you want to book rides. From our experience, it's a lot easier to flag one down rather than wait for a specific driver like Uber/Lyft here. There's so much traffic all the time, that flagging a taxi will be faster.
-Bring LOTS of cash. We brought $1k USD for our 10 day trip. Many of the places we visited don't accept credit cards unless it's super touristy. And even if they do, a lot of places will charge you a 3% fee just to use your credit card that will be on top of (most likely) a 3% foreign transaction fee. Get ready to be holding lots of red $100k IDR bills.
-Hiring a daily driver to drive you wherever you want is very common in Bali. Daily drivers cost $40 USD for a small, 7 seater car. We highly recommend this because driving in Bali is much different than it is in the US. For starters, right hand drive cars and the way they drive I call organized chaos. I'd avoid driving if you can. More commonly, people ride small scooter bikes that are everywhere. Links below to our driver Dodi's company. As for him by name to be your driver. He's the best!
-Cell service - Bring your unlocked cell phone and get a SIM card at the airport. We ended up getting a Telkomsel 10GB prepaid SIM card for $350k IDR. Total overkill as we were actually looking for a 2GB SIM card for about $150k IDR, but didn't see any around.
-Travel adapters for your electronics - Indonesia uses the same 110/120 voltage for their electricity, so all you need is an adapter for your electronics. The ones we bought are below. They worked fine.

PADANG BAI TO GILI ISLANDS - THE LOCAL WAY - VLOG#3
PADANG BAI TO GILI ISLANDS - THE LOCAL WAY // For the vast majority of travellers trying to reach the Gili Islands, a fast boat will be their choice of transportation. If you’re on a tight schedule and money isn’t an issue, then the fast boat is definitely the way to go. But, if you’re the latter, the not so known and a little bit confusing mode will be the public ferry. Since we had a lot of time but not a lot of money, we decided that the public ferry would be the best choice for us. And we were curious to find out how logical this trip would be for other likeminded travellers. Do note that it’s not just a ferry that you will need to catch, there will be ground travel and a public boat required as well!

This video is all about how we made Bali to Lombok Speed Boat journey. This was an indescribable experience (in Bali tour guide videos) that cannot be expressed in words. You will come to know how to go to Lombok from Kuta.
The deep blue sea of Indonesia gave a mesmerizing memory. We stayed at North West coast of the Lombok Island.
The great Pink Beach, Indonesia is on the south coast of Lombok. I suggest not to travel to Lombok by flight from Kuta, Bali (Denpasar Airport) If you do not want to miss the happening experience.
