Story of Pathar Masjid (Stone Mosque)
Pathar Masjid, known locally as Naev Masheed, is a Mughal era stone mosque located in the old city of Srinagar, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is located on the left bank of the River Jhelum, just opposite the shrine of Khanqah-e-Moula. It was built by Mughal Empress Noor Jehan, the wife of emperor Jehangir. The mosque has some distinct features that separate it from the rest of the mosques in the Kashmir Valley. Unlike other mosques, it does not have the traditional pyramidal roof. Furthermore, the mosque has nine mehraabs (arches), with the central one being larger than the others.

Jamia Masjid (Urdu: جامع مسجد سرینگر) is a mosque in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Situated at Nowhatta in the middle of the Old City, the Mosque was commissioned by Sultan Sikandar in 1394 CE and completed in 1402 CE,[1] at the behest of Mir Mohammad Hamadani, son of Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani,[2] and is regarded as one of the most important mosques in Kashmir.[3] The architectural style of the Mosque is inspired by the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, which is a blend of Indian and Mughal styles,[4] and also bears similarities to Buddhist pagodas.[5] The Mosque is located in Downtown which remains a central zone to the religio-political life in Srinagar. Thronged by Muslims every Friday, it is one of the prime tourist attractions of Srinagar.[1]
जामा मस्जिद कश्मीर की सबसे पुरानी और बड़ी मस्जिदों में से है। मस्जिद की वास्तुकला काफी अदभूत है। माना जाता है कि जामा मस्जिद की नींव सुल्लान सिकंदर ने 1398 ई. में रखी थी। इस मस्जिद की लंबाई 384 फीट और चौड़ाई 38 फीट है। इस मस्जिद में तीस हजार लोग एक-साथ नमाज अदा कर सकते हैं।
श्रीनगर में बनी हई मस्जिदों में से सबसे पुरानी और खास जामिया मस्जिद को 1400 ई. में बनवाया गया था। स्थानीय लोग इस मस्जिद को शुक्रवार मस्जिद के नाम से भी जानते हैं। जामा मस्जिद को पुराने समय में विवादों के चलते कई बार नष्ट कर दिया गया था। हर बार इसका पुनर्निर्माण किया गया था, आखिरी बार महाराजा प्रताप सिंह ने इसको अपनी देखरेख में बनवाया था उस समय से आज तक यह ठीक है। यह मस्जिद भारतीय सामग्री और मुस्लिम कलाकृति से मिलकर बना हुआ बेमिसाल धार्मिक केंद्र है। इस मस्जिद की वास्तुकला को ब्रिटिश वास्तुकारों ने डिजायन किया था जिसे इंडो - सारासेनिक वास्तुकला के नाम से जाना जाता है। इस अद्भूत डिजायन का परिणाम यह है कि इस मस्जिद में शिखर पर एक गुंबद नहीं है जो अक्सर हर मुस्लिम कलाकृतियों और धार्मिक स्थलों पर हुआ करती है। इस मस्जिद का देखने लायक मुख्य हिस्सा यहां का प्रार्थना हॉल है जो 370 खंभों पर खड़ा हुआ है, यह सभी खंभे देवदार के मोटे तनों से बने हुए हैं। इस गंतव्य स्थल की शान्ति और इसके आसपास स्थित शोर भरे बाजार के बीच काफी अंतर है लेकिन पर्यटकों को यहां ही यह बात ही सबसे ज्यादा भाती है। जामा मस्जिद में काफी स्पेस है जिसमें एक समय में 30,000 लोग बैठकर नमाज अदा कर सकते हैं।

Jamia Masjid in Srinagar
The Jamia Masjid is a revered mosque, located in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The main pilgrim destination for Muslims in Srinagar, Jamia Masjid is located at Nowhatta, in the heart of the old city. Built by the Mughals, the mosque is greatly admired for its timber construction. This mosque is believed to have been originally a Hindu temple, built in 1398 by Sultan Sikandar, also known as Sikandar Butshikan - the destroyer of Idols. It was later enlarged by his son, Zain-ul- Abidin. Jamia masjid is spacious enough to accommodate 30,000 people, and thousands of devotees congregate here for the Friday prayers. Jamia Masjid is a colossal mosque built around a central courtyard and supported by 370 wooden pillars. The serene atmosphere of the mosque is in stark contrast with the hustle bustle of the old bazaars surrounding it. The mosque structure is a typical example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. The largest mosque in Jammu and Kashmir, Jama Masjid has had an eventful history. Destroyed thrice by fire and rebuilt each time, the Masjid, as it now stands, was repaired during the reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh.

Gurdwara Shri Pathar Sahib on the Srinagar-Leh highway
Gurdwara Shri Pathar Sahib is situated on the Srinagar-Leh Road, 25kms before the Leh. It is very beautiful and it was created in memory of the founder of Sikh religion and the first guru , Guru Nanak Dev ji.
History : Guru Nanak Dev ji Reached here during the second journey (1515-1518 A.D.) in 1517 A.D. after giving his sermon on sumer hills, Guru Nanak Dev ji reached here through Yarkand after visiting Nepal, Sikkim and Tibet. In the opposite hill, there lived a cruel demon who use to terrify the people and eat them after killing. On hearing the plight of the grieved, Guru ji reached this place heaved a sigh of relief on seeing the Guru ji but the demon was very angry on seeing this and he hatched a plan a kill Guru ji. One day, when Guru ji was immersed deep in the worship of God, the demon took the opportunity and throw a huge stone (Pathar) on Guru ji so that Guru ji would die under the huge stone. But 'When the almighty protects, none can kill him' and at that time an unusual incident happened. As the huge stone touched Guju ji, it became like wax and Guru ji's body got struck in the wax but it did no effect the worship of Guru ji. The demon was pleased assuring that Guru ji was killed and came down near the stone. Seeing Guru ji alive, the demon was surprised and in a fit of rage, he kicked the stone with his right leg but the demon's leg also get struck in the wax. The, the demon realized that he in his foolishness had tried to kill a Lord's devotee and he fell at Guru ji's feet to apologize for this mistake. Guru ji opened his eyes and summoned the demon to live the rest of his life by serving the humanity and only then he will be benefited. The demon obliged the Guru ji's saying and lived peacefully thereafter. After some time, Guru ji went to Kashmir via kargil. You can have a glimpse of the holy stone inside Gurdwara Sri Pather Sahib.
Visit the gurdwara, one can take, a direct flight to Leh from New Delhi,JAMMU & SRINAGAR and stay in a hotel at Leh. To visit Leh by road there are two routes,one is via SRINAGAR J&K and the other is via MANALI (HP) .Both the roads are closed from November to May every year due to excessive snowfall and remain open from June to Oct. Leh is located at a high altitude; one can have breathing problems due to the paucity of oxygen. Visitors are advised to consult their doctors and arrange proper woolen clothes before embarking on this journey as the temperature falls beyond -20 degree in winter. The 25-km road from Leh to the Gurdwara Pathar Sahib is in good condition. Visitors can go by bus or taxi. The Gurdwara Sahib is located next to the main road near Magnetic Hill India.

Pillars of Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta, Srinagar
The Jamia Masjid is a revered mosque, located in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
The main pilgrim destination for Muslims in Srinagar, Jamia Masjid is located at Nowhatta, in the heart of the old city. Built by the Mughals, the mosque is greatly admired for its timber construction. This mosque is believed to have been originally a Hindu temple, built in 1398 by Sultan Sikandar, also known as Sikandar Butshikan - the destroyer of Idols. It was later enlarged by his son, Zain-ul- Abidin. Jama masjid is spacious enough to accommodate 30,000 people, and thousands of devotees congregate here for the Friday prayers. Jamia Masjid is a colossal mosque built around a central courtyard and supported by 370 wooden pillars. The serene atmosphere of the mosque is in stark contrast with the hustle bustle of the old bazaars surrounding it. The mosque structure is a typical example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. The largest mosque in Jammu and Kashmir, Jamia Masjid has had an eventful history. Destroyed thrice by fire and rebuilt each time, the Masjid, as it now stands, was repaired during the reign of Maharaja Pratap Singh.
