Paul Smith | No. 9 Albemarle Street
Find the shop:
Paul Smith is pleased to announce the opening of a new shop in London's Mayfair in September 2013.
Significantly extending the pre-existing Paul Smith shop on the corner of Albemarle and Stafford Street, the new space expands into the neighbouring building and will sell men's and women's clothing and furniture, as well as a selection of special pieces and one-off designs.
The building exterior features a bespoke, cast iron panelled façade and balustrade set against distinctive black painted walls. The façade, designed in conjunction with 6A architects, discreetly incorporates Paul's hand drawings, combining the entrenched architectural traditions of the local vicinity with the modernity of the Paul Smith aesthetic.
The building's characteristic vibrant architectural features, the cobalt stairs and bright green suspended walkway for example, create a break between areas. Window displays are changed frequently and feature clothes, art and furniture.
To coincide with the opening of Paul Smith at No. 9 Albemarle Street an exhibition of items designed by Dieter Rams will also be on display in the shop.

Paul Smith | Hamburg
Find the shop:
Paul Smith is pleased to announce the opening of a new shop in Hamburg.
The shop, Paul Smith's first in Germany, is located in the city's distinguished and historic Altstadt district. Situated in an elegant townhouse, one of Hamburg's finest examples of mid-19th century Biedermeier-era design, it will sell men's and women's clothing and accessories as well as a selection of curiosities and furniture.
Step off Hohe Bleichen, beyond the original stonework facade of the shop, and explore a series of uniquely designed rooms that each celebrate the inherent beauty of the building. A reference to the Biedermeier origins of the shop comes through in the palette, with walls painted in pastel shades of green and lilac whilst upholstery and furniture inject bursts of bright colour. Throughout the sensitively restored space classical features are offset with modern fixtures.

Paul Smith | Limited Edition Football
Paul Smith celebrates a summer of sport with the release of a limited edition leather football.
Coinciding with the launch of a limited edition, printed leather football, Paul Smith releases a new short film, directed by young British director Oliver Hadlee Pearch, that takes the keepy-uppy from the schoolyard to the one of the designer's most iconic shops; Westbourne House in London's Notting Hill.
Bringing new meaning to suited and booted, in his Paul Smith Travel Suit, Guinness world record holder and former football freestyle world champion, John Farnworth pirouettes through the shop. Throughout, the football--one of just 200 produced--bounces perfectly on the toe or marbled soles of his Paul Smith Grand brogues. John barely breaks a sweat, but most importantly his suit doesn't break a crease either.

Paul Smith, Menswear Collection Spring 2013 - Fashion & Beauty TV
Paul Smith's introduction into fashion was completely accidental. At the age of 16, with no career plans or qualifications, Paul Smith was propelled by his father into a menial job at the local clothing warehouse in his native Nottingham. However his real passion was sport and his ambition was to become a professional racing cyclist, until aged 17 years when cycling-mad Paul was in a terrible accident.
Six months in hospital followed and during this time Paul made some new friends. After leaving hospital he arranged to meet them again and by chance the meeting place was a local pub that was popular with the students from the local art college.
They talked of Mondrian, Warhol, Kokoshka, David Bailey and listened to the Rolling Stones, Miles Davis and much more. It was then Paul knew he wanted to be a part of this colourful world of ideas and excitement.
Within two years, Paul Smith was managing his first boutique in Nottingham and with the encouragement of his girlfriend Pauline Denyer (now wife) and a small amount of savings, opened a tiny shop in 1970. Paul started to take evening classes for tailoring and with the help of Pauline (an RCA fashion graduate), Paul was able to create what he wanted. By 1976 Paul showed his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label.
In business for over 40 years Paul Smith had established himself as the pre-eminent British designer. Paul Smith has an ability to anticipate, and even spark off trends not only fashion but in the wider context of popular culture. He manages to transmit a genuine sense of humour and mischief mixed with his love of tradition and the classics
Today there are 14 different collections; Paul Smith for men and women, PS by Paul Smith, Paul Smith Jeans, Paul Smith London, R.Newbold (Japan only), Paul Smith Black, Paul by Paul Smith, Paul Smith Accessories, Paul Smith Shoe. Paul Smith rugs, china, spectacles and fragrance are made under license. Designed in Nottingham and London, the Paul Smith collections are primarily produced in England and Italy while the fabrics used are mainly of Italian, French and British origin.
The Paul Smith shops reflect the character of Paul and his designs, an unmistakable Englishness augmented by the unexpected. Each and every Paul Smith shop is totally different, from a shocking pink building with movie set styling on Melrose Avenue, LA, to a Japanese garden at the heart of the Jingumae store in Tokyo. Each shop is a showcase for diverse and eccentric objects complementing the clothing collections with an extensive selection of jewellery, books, art and antiques.
Paul explains his eclectic aesthetic: We're a leading and uniquely British brand. We mix up one-off antiques with high quality tailoring: the chair you sit on when you buy a suit is for sale and we can wrap the suit and have the chair waiting for you when you get home.
Paul Smith is global - the collection is wholesaled to 66 countries and has 17 shops in England. Paul Smith shops are found in London, Paris, Milan, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Antwerp, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, U.A.E. -- and over 200 throughout Japan. Paul remains fully involved in the Japanese business; designing the clothes, choosing the fabrics, approving the shop locations and overseeing every development within the company. Paul Smith also has impressive and diverse showrooms in London, Paris, Milan, New York, and Tokyo.
Paul Smith continues to be an integral part of the company; he is both designer and chairman. Paul Smith is continually involved in every aspect of the business and as a result, Paul Smith Limited retains a personal touch often lost in companies of a similar size.

Joseph Cheaney & Son: Our British Tradition, Made In England - Simply Handsome 247
Joseph Cheaney & Son - Simply Handsome 247
Welcome to simply handsome 247, the Youtube channel dedicated to fashion style and creativity for men. In today’s episode we’ll be interviewing Mr. Kirkby Head of Sales at Joseph Cheaney & Son shoes, based in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England.
Simply Handsome 247: What is your job role?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): I manage the sales force, visit existing manage customers and oversea product development.
Simply Handsome 247: How did you begin your journey with Joseph Cheaney & Son?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): On the retail side, I started as a shop worker. I then become a buyer, from that I moved onto wholesale. I joined Joseph Cheaney & Son fifteen years ago as a sales representative, from there I developed to Head of Sales.
Simply Handsome 247: How do you expand your customer base?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): The key for us is two fold; one is to attract the new customer that really understands what we are about. I term that customer as a stylish gentlemen that understands fashion, rather then follows fashion. The second element is to retain those customers. It’s very easy to forget about the customers that you have.
Simply Handsome 247: How do you stay relevant?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): The essential element is to access what’s happening generally within fashion and footwear is a core element of the fashion industry. We undertake range assessments, season on season, so we’re are assessing the current sales rate of existing styles.
Simply Handsome 247: Who are some of your big clients?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): Paul Smith in Japan which is on a dual label basis, meaning that it goes out as Paul Smith but carries that Cheaney label; that is a strong brand reference. We have undertaken a collaboration with Super Dry as well. From the very class Paul Smith through to Super Dry that people will not necessarily associate with a class British house.
Simply Handsome 247: Why is it important to keep your brand British?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): It’s everything that we’re about. The cornerstone of the business is that we’re a heritage band based in Britain. There are a lot of people out there trying to create heritage, invent heritage, we’re very fortunate that we have it and it’s pure.
Simply Handsome 247: How important is having a strong team?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): It’s very important to have a strong team with people that can exist as individuals, I think that is the key element; that each individual can contribute and development themselves as well as the business.
Simply Handsome 247: How do you train your employees?
Mr. Kirkby (Joseph Cheaney & Son): This area is famous for making footwear; there is an element of heritage and family tradition and we are undertaking an apprenticeship programme, so it’s an ongoing process.
Special thanks to Mr. France of Joseph Cheaney & Son.
Thank you for joining us for this episode of Simply Handsome 247, the youtube channel dedicated to fashion, style and creativity for men. So until the next time, keep it simply handsome.
