Massive Beer Review 2049 Paulaner Brewing Original Munich Lager
Paulaner beer tent, Oktoberfest, Munich, Bavaria, Germany, Europe
Paulaner is a German brewery, established in the early 17th century in Munich by the Minim friars of the Neudeck ob der Au cloister. The mendicant order and the brewery are named after Francis of Paola, the founder of the order. Paulaner is one of the six breweries who provide beer for Oktoberfest, the German beer festival dating from 1810. Paulaner ranks number 8 among Germany's best selling breweries. The name of the Paulaner brewery refers to the order of friars that resided in Neuhauser Straße in Munich who were part of the order of Saint Francis of Paola. The friars had brewed beer for their own use since 1634. The beer that was permitted to be sold on holidays was a Bock style which gained local fame. After the abolition of the Neudeck Cloister in 1799, the building was converted into a penitentiary. Franz Xaver Zacherl, the brewer, purchased the former cloister brewery and continued the Starkbier tradition with the product Salvator, which is Latin for Saviour. In 1861 the Salvatorkeller (Salvator cellar) was opened upon Nockherberg. In 1928 the brewery merged with the Gebrüder Thomas brewery creating Paulaner Salvator Thomas Bräu. 1994 saw the acquisition into the Kulmbacher brewery group with the affiliated producers Plauen and Chemnitz. A daughter company is the Auer Bräu AG Rosenheim. Paulaner belongs to the BHI (Brau Holding International AG), a joint venture between Schörghuber Ventures (50.1%) and with the Netherlands' Heineken N.V. (49.9%).

Oktoberfest Bier - A true passion from Munich
Our head brewmaster Christian Dahncke takes you once again this year to Paulaner's biggest tent, the Winzerer Fähndl, to tell you all about the Oktoberfest and our Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier.
Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier is served in three of the festival's larger tents, among other places: in Paulaner's biggest tent, the Winzerer Fähndl, the Armbrustschützen-Festhalle and the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke.
Paulaner's biggest tent, the Winzerer Fähndl, is one of the most popular tents at the Wiesn. The bright-yellow tower with an oversized beer mug on top is immediately recognizable and has been a Wiesn landmark for over 100 years. With a theoretical estimated capacity of 42,300 liters, the gigantic beer mug spins majestically above the Paulanergarten.

Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen & Oktoberfest Wiesn (2018) | Paulaner Brauerei | Beer Review | #102-103
For the start of the official Oktoberfest celebration in Munich, Germany, I've decided to review and compare two Oktoberfest-style beers from the same German brewery, Paulaner. In this review, I compare their Oktoberfest Märzen to their Oktoberfest Wiesn. The former is a Märzen-style Oktoberfest beer, while the latter is a Festbier-style Oktoberfest beer. Which do I prefer? Let's find out!
Commercial Description:
(Oktoberfest Märzen) - Is an amber beer style that was developed over 200 years ago to celebrate the original Oktoberfest. The Märzen name comes from “March beer” because it was historically brewed in March to be at peak flavor for the Oktoberfest celebration. Today this style is available year round in the US due to popular demand.
This full bodied beer with its rich malt flavor and dark toffee note, has an underlying fruitiness and masterful hop balance. It will instantly turn your own four walls into an Oktoberfest tent. Prost!
(Oktoberfest Wiesn) - This golden Oktoberfest lager is the only beer served in Paulaner Oktoberfest tents today. It also happens to be the best-selling Oktoberfest beer in Germany.
Brewed once a year, and only available while supplies last, Oktoberfest Wiesn is the pinnacle of German brewing: deep golden color, full-bodied and wonderfully mellow, with a balanced harmonious taste and the pleasant fragrance of hops. At 6% ABV, it is stronger and bolder that the usual lager.
Pertinent Information:
Brewery - Paulaner Brauerei (Munich, Bavaria, Germany)
Beer - Oktoberfest Märzen & Oktoberfest Wiesn
Style - Oktoberfest / Märzen & Oktoberfest / Festbier
ABV - 5.8% & 6.0%
IBU - N/A (Both)
Bottled On Date - Enjoy By April 2019 (Not sure of the exact date, but both are relatively fresh at the time of review)
