Peace and Elegance at Vienna’s Albertina Museum
Great art often hides in less-famous sights — like the Albertina Museum, in a distant wing of Vienna’s Hofburg Palace. Throughout my travels this year, I’ve noticed that huge crowds don’t always gravitate to the most enjoyable sights. If you read your guidebooks, you’ll know about attractions where peace and elegance trump crowds and chaos. Here at the Albertina, I’m enjoying some quality time alone with the creative genius of my favorite artists.

Albertina - VIENNA/NOW Sights
The Albertina not only has the largest and most valuable graphical collections in the world, with works such as Dürer’s “Hare” and Klimt's studies of women. As the largest Habsburg residential palace, the Albertina dominates the southern tip of the Imperial Palace on one of the last remaining fortress walls in Vienna.

CoinWeek: Numismatic Vienna: A Visit to the Austrian National Numismatic Collection - 4K Video
On January 28, 2016, CoinWeek was invited to a very special behind-the-scenes tour of the Austrian National Numismatic Collection, which is housed at the Vienna Art History Museum. (website:
The coin collection at the Vienna Art History Museum is significant not only because of many of the great rarities counted amongst its holdings, but also due to its unusual depth and breadth. With over 600,000 pieces, the collection in Vienna is considered the fifth largest collection in the world and is rivaled only by the numismatic collections at the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the British Museum in London, the holdings of the American Numismatic Society in New York, and of course, the National Numismatic Collection of the United States in Washington, D.C.
CoinWeek’s access to the collection went far beyond the thousands of rare and unusual numismatic items on permanent display, including the 7-kilo gold “Alchemists Medallion” of Leopold I and a collection of important medieval hammered dies, but to pieces not on display, such as a rare 1794 dollar, and one of the finest 1799 eagles existent.
This travelogue was shot in 4K and gives collectors a taste of beautiful Vienna, a destination that after you watch this video, will rank high among your list of “must visit” numismatic destinations.

Ugo Rondinone wisdom? peace? blank? all of this? im Theseustempel, Wien

Earning Ridicule from the Vienna Philharmonic
At Vienna’s Haus der Musik, every wannabe conductor gets a chance to conduct the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra...after a little coaching from Maestro Zubin Mehta. As I waved my virtual baton, the orchestra actually followed the beat I set. And when I got too sloppy, they put their instruments down and jeered. It was humiliating and fun at the same time.
When describing a museum in a Rick Steves guidebook, I make sure that my readers know not only the cost and the hours, but also how to fully experience and enjoy that particular sight. A good guidebook...it makes a big difference in your travels:

EUROPA IN WIEN - Der Wiener Kongress 1814/15 | EUROPE IN VIENNA - The Congress of Vienna 1814/15
Feature zur Ausstellung „EUROPA IN WIEN - Der Wiener Kongress 1814/15“ im Unteren Belvedere und Orangerie, Wien. Mit Direktorin Agnes Husslein-Arco, Kuratorin Sabine Grabner und Kurator Werner Telesko.
20. Februar bis 21. Juni 2015 -

Okay so I'm trying something new.. a longer video:) Usually when I have these days that are really packed I split them up into 2 videos, but I personally like videos that are a little longer, I find it's easier to get into the mood of things so I wanted to try it out, I hope you like it:) let me know what you think:)
We stated out with a visit to St. Stephen's Cathedral with the amazing zig zag roof. Inside it was a bit more creepy though, the most gothic church I've ever seen!
Toured the Hoffburg museum to learn about Austrian history and Empress Sisi I guess:)
Walked the ringstrasse and went into the butterfly house Schmetterlinghaus and the biggest once were my favorit color:)
Tasting the Sacher torte in the Sacher hotel was a lot of fun and then I ended the day with an incredible visit to the Albertina Museum which was truly my highlight. I saw some awesome Monet and found a new painter I never knew but absolutely loved Poul Sibinic.
