Rangoon's colonial heritage at risk
It is the symbol of a crumbling empire: colonial relics fallen to ruin. But amid the rampant modernisation in Burma's former capital Rangoon, conservationists are battling to save what they see as their country's heritage. John Sparks reports.

Back to Burma is a video mini-series exploring the personal stories of Burmese expats who have decided to return to Myanmar.
These 5 individuals all left their homes during the military dictatorship and built new lives in foreign countries.

Yangon Nightlife
Yangon is one of the lesser known nightlife destination in ASEAN (South East Asia)
but nevertheless, a target highly recommended checking it out. Burmese nightlife girls are sooooo interesting just smooth as silk. The place indicated here is the Zero Zone Rock Restaurant a bit rotten lik everything in Burma but a pleasant place to kick off the night. The nightclub and restaurant is right in Chinatown with many similar places around including a large night market.

Master The Classics: Pegu Club
The Pegu Club was a boys club located in Rangoon, Burma (now known as Yangon, Myanmar) was the center of British social life during the 1920's. It was opened as a haven for wayward explorers in a time when the British Empire was Colonizing their way across Asia. The Pegu Club was (surprise, surprise) it's house cocktail.
Time went on and this very dry tipple found it's way into Harry's New York Bar and eventually, the owner Harry McElhone published the recipe in his book Barflies and Cocktails around 1927. Then in 2005 legendary New York City bartender Audry Saunders opened the Pegu Club in New York City further immortalizing it and solidifying it's place in cocktail history.

The battle over the heritage buildings of Rangoon
The downtown area of Rangoon is well known for its iconic colonial architecture. But recent developments in the country mean century old buildings are demolished to make way for modern high rises. A battle has now broken out between those who want to retain the city's heritage sites and the high demand for safe and affordable places to live.

Concerned that the city's rich architectural heritage and the experiences of longstanding residents could be lost to rapid commercial development, Tim Webster and Virginia Henderson have written Yangon Echoes, documenting the people and places carrying the stories of old Yangon. Yangon's neglected Drug Elimination Museum
Opened to great fanfare by the military government in 2001, the Drug Elimination Museum is a relic of the junta's failed attempts to curb opium production in Myanmar's share of the Golden Triangle. Rundown, dilapidated, averaging less than 10 visitors a day and seemingly forgotten by the new government, its dedicated staff have nonetheless worked tirelessly to preserve its exhibits.
Walking up Pyay Road in Yangon
In this video I take a walk up the long Pyay Road in Yangon. Along this road you will find many attractions such as the People's Park, the National Museum, many malls, Inya Lake and many others. In the video I visit a large compound of 66 monasteries and the Pegu Club - the old gentleman's club from colonial days.
