This line was constructed between 1894 - 1903. The route of this train was from Volos city to Milee Village of mount. Pelion. All the route was constructed by Evaristo De Kiriko, the father of the famous painter and thats why in every paint of Georgio De Kiriko there is a little steam train in the corner. This track is the narrowest in Greece (600 mm). By 1971 the railway had stopped working and it started again by 1996. Nowdays the train starts it's route from Ano Lechonia Station (a Village near Volos City), makes a stop at Ano Gatzea Village and then it goes to Milee Village, a traditional Village of mount. Pelion. Also due to technical problems the steam train has stopped working and the service is by two diesel locomotives designed like stram train.

Το τρενάκι του Πηλίου, ή αλλιώς Ο Μουτζούρης αποτελεί ένα τουριστικό αξιοθέατο για τα χωρία του Νοτίου Πηλίου. Η διαδρομή πλέον ξεκινάει απο τον σταθμό Άνω Λεχωνίων και τερματίζει στον παραδοσιακό σταθμό του χωρίου των Μηλεών, εκεί οι επιβάτες έχουν 3 ώρες διάστημα να περιηγηθούν στο παραδοσιακό χωριό. Το τρένο αυτό αναδεικνύει την ομορφιά της ελληνικής φύσης καθώς η διαδρομή συνδυάζει βουνό και θάλασσα. Η γραμμή αυτη κατασκευάστηκε απο τον αρχιτέκτονα Ευαρίστο Ντεκίρικο το 1894 και οι γραμμές είναι στενού εύρους 60 εκατοστών και αποτελεί την πιο στενή γραμμή του κόσμου. Στο βίντεο παρουσιάζεται η κυκλοφορία στην γραμμή του Πηλίου καθώς και οι ελιγμοί στις Μηλιές.

Pelion is a mountain at the southeastern part of Thessaly in central Greece, forming a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Pelion railway is a route constructed on 1903 by Evaristo De Kiriko the father of the famous painter Georgio De Kiriko. The tracks are one of the narrowest of the world with gauge only 60cm) The train started from Volos to Milee Village, but nowdays touristic excursion trains starts from Ano Lechonia to Milee with a stop for 15 minutes at Ano Gatzea Village. After this passengers could visit Milee village on an old, tradional train route.

Το Πήλιο , γνωστό και ως βουνό των Κενταύρων είναι απο τα λίγα ελληνικά μέρη που συνδυάζουν και μαγευτικά ορεινά τοπία και απέραντες γαλάζιες παραλίες. Την όλη μαγεία όμως συντελεί και το τρενάκι του Πηλίου, κατακευαασμένο το 1903 απο τον Ευάριστο Ντε Κίρικο το οποίο επι χρόνια εκτελούσε το δρομολόγιο Βόλος - Μηλέαι, αλλά πλέον λειτουργεί μόνο ως τουριστικό ξεκινόντας απο τα Άνω Λεχώνια (χθ 12+483) Και φτάνει στις Μηλίες (χθ 28 + 116). .

Historic Pelion Train
The historical Pelion train was revived by a number of volunteers, who reconstructed and assembled the engine parts, piece-by-piece. In this video, the train departs the station of Milies.

Ένα τρένο μοναδικό στον ευρωπαϊκό χώρο που σκαρφαλώνει στις πλαγιές του πανέμορφου βουνού των Κενταύρων. Σήμερα,περισσότερα από 100 χρόνια ύπαρξής του, ψάχνει τρόπους επιβίωσης. Αξίζει να το διασώσουμε!
Pelion Narrow Gauge Railway - Greece
This 22 km section of restored narrow gauge (600mm) railway operates on summer weekends. The Pelion peninsula is a beautiful and sparsley populated region of mainland Greece, where most of the tourists are Greek. The lower station and ticket office are located in the small town of Ano Lechonia. On departure, the track constantly gains altitude as it hugs the contours of the hillsides, breathtaking views of the sea can be glimpsed through the olive groves. The journey takes about an hour and a half, including a stop at a halt where refreshments are available, and blue-eyed cats entertain fellow passengers. Occasional rocky cuttings are passed through, and several gorges are traversed by bridge, the last one is a girder bridge just before the upper termius is reached near the picturesque hillside village of Milies. The loco on this occassion was a diesel, and the coaches timber bodied with open balconies at both ends - great for filming from. I hope you enjoy these few clips as much as I enjoyed my trip.

Το τρενάκι του Πηλίου ή αλλιώς ο Μουτζούρης αποτελεί ένα από τα μοναδικά αξιοθέατα σε όλο τον κόσμο. Η διαδρομή του συνδυάζει τα τοπία της πόλης με αυτά της θάλασσας, του βουνού και των γραφικών χωριών. Η μοναδικότητα του οφείλετε επίσης στο στενό πλάτος των σιδηροτροχιων που διαγράφουν μόλις 60εκ. Η κατασκευή της ξεκίνησε το 1894 με την επίβλεψη του μηχανικού Εβαρίστο Ντε Κίρικο και το 1895 ολοκληρώθηκε το τμήμα Βόλος-Ανω Λεχώνια η οποία ήταν 13χλμ. Η επέκταση της γραμμών μέχρι της Μηλιές τελείωσε το 1903 και ηταν 16χλμ. (Συνολικά 29χλμ.)
Πλέον τα τραίνα δρομολογούνται μόνο στο κομμάτι Άνω Λεχώνια-Μηλιές και είναι τουριστικά!

The train of Pelion or Moutzouris is one of the unique attractions all over the world. The route combines the landscapes of the city with those of the sea, the mountain and the picturesque villages. The uniqueness also owes to the narrow width of the rails, which are only 60cm. The construction begin in 1894 under the supervision of engineer Evaristo De Kirico and in 1895 the department of Volos-Ano Lechonia was completed, which was 13 km. The extension of the lines until Milies ended in 1903 and was 16 km. (Total 29 km)
Now the trains run only in Ano Lechonia-Milies and are a tourist attraction!

A documentary with English subtitles, for the legendary little train of Pelion.
The narrow gauge Little Train of Pelion [gauge of 60 cm] started operating between Volos and Lehonia in 1895 and between Lehonia and Milies in 1903, covering a total distance of approximately 29 klm. It was ingeniously designed and constructed by the Italian engineer Evaristo de Chirico, father of the world renowned surrealist painter Giorgio de Chirico, who, born and schooled in the area, drew his thematology for the metaphysical period of his work especially from his childhood memories of the mountain of the Centaurs and Argonauts. The train was instrumental in the economic and cultural development

Πρωινές ετοιμασίες της εκδρομικής αμαξοστοιχίας για τις Μηλιές Πηλίου. Στο βίντεο μπορείτε να παρακολουθήσετε τους ελιγμούς των επικεφαλής μηχανών που ετοιμάζονται να τραβήξουν την αμαξοστοιχία στο μακρύ της ταξίδι. Επίσης εμφανίζονται και οι ελιγμοί της δρεζίνας ελέγχου γραμμής καθώς και η αναχώρηση της απο τον σταθμό. Η γραμμή κατασκευάστηκε απο τον Ευαρίστο Ντε Κίρικο πατέρα του γνωστού ζωγράφου. Έχει εύρος 600 χιλιοστών και αρχικά συνέδεε την πόλη του Βόλου με τα χωρία του Πηλίου για να καταλήξει στις Μηλιές. Πλέον εκτελούνται μόνο τουριστικά δρομολόγια απο το χωριό των Άνω Λεχωνίων μέχρι το χωριό των Μηλεών. Οι λήψεις είναι τον Αύγουστο του 2016

For many years on this line the trains started from Volos city to Milee village. Nowdays tourist trains start from Ano Lechonia village (about 20 minutes from Volos city) to Milee village. The gauge of the tracks is 600mm. Scenes filmed on Augoust 2016.

Departure of Pileon Pelion train from Ana Lechonia to Millies September 2016
Departure of the pelion railway train from the station of Ana Lechonia near the Greek city of Volos. This is a 0,6 metre gauge railway that reopened for touristic traintrips at the scenic Pelion railway.
The steam lokomotive was traded for a diesel narrowgauge lokomotive after the first years of reoperation. The locomotive is still there, but now most times as a static monument in the shed.
The steamlokomotive was at display at the 2016 railway conference in Tessaloniki this mont, so also couldn't be seen as a static monument in the locoshed here.
The train runs in the weekends. This train was fully booked by groups. So Book your trip in advance at a OSE trainstation if you like to join.
