In addition to the new entrances, Mayland Community College is also constructing a Star Park and Observatory with the largest telescope in the Southeast at the site of the old landfill on Highway 80 North. Kurt Anderson Making Handles at the Eye Of The Dog Art Center
Kurt is originally from Santa Rosa, California but now makes his home in the mountains of Western North Carolina. He has been a resident at The Archie Bray Foundation, Penland School of Crafts, and Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts. He has attended various institutes of higher learning including The University of Wyoming (degree in education), SUNY New Paltz, NSCAD, and Louisiana State University (MFA). In 2009-2010, he was the Fergus Post MFA fellow at The Ohio State University.
Kurt makes utilitarian objects and covers the surfaces with images of slightly surrealized versions of things he encounters in his life. He hopes to make you laugh and take a closer look. When not in his studio or watching Rick and Morty he is probably wandering the countryside with his dog Bootsie.
Kurt's work is influenced by the folk pottery traditions of Asia and the Middle East, as well as a wide variety of contemporary sources such as advertising logos, graphic novels, and street art. By shuffling and recombining these proven formulas, it is Kurt's hope that the muse of familiarity appears cross-dressed as innovation.
