Media, PA - Walking Tour
Media, PA has a vibrant downtown with lots of restaurants, plenty of live music, historic architecture, unique shops, and theatre showing live musical performances. Roads are closed for special occasion block parties. Media is America's First Fair Trade Town and the only suburban town in the United States to have a trolley line end on its main street. Landmarks include Provident National Bank on State Street built in 1900 and designed in the Chateauesque style, Armory built in 1877 designed by William S. Price now houses the Pennsylvania Veterans' Museum and Trader Joe's, Presbyterian Church designed in the Greek Revival, impressive Delaware County Courthouse, and the Minshall House circa 1750.

Spotlight on Delaware County Veterans
The relocated Delaware County Veterans Affairs office to provide easy access for veterans was dedicated Oct. 18 with the unveiling of a display of military articles on loan from the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum.
County Council Chairman Jack Whelan said the prominent new location in the lobby of the Government Center, adjacent to the Courthouse, Media, is the final step in an upgrade of service and outreach established to help veterans access benefits and programs to which they are entitled because of their military service.
We have introduced a VIMS system, the Veterans Information Management System, to assist veterans, Whelan said. The system is used extensively to help veterans by maintaining vital information of veteran clients, preparing computer-generated forms, extracting data to assist in filing claims and other forms, tracking actions and maintaining data.
An upgrade of the veterans webpage on the County website provides links for county, state and federal programs, information about other programs and links for forms and publications. Veterans outreach seminars are being conducted to alert those who come in contact with veterans through education and other activities of the services that are available.
The Veterans Affairs webpage can be accessed on the Delaware County website at co.delaware.pa.us and going to Veterans Affairs under departments on the home page.
Articles on display from the Veterans Museum features items from as far back as the Spanish-American War of 1898 and includes World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam and up to the present time.
It is a companion to the Armed Services Tribute Board placed by County employees in the Government Center lobby which features photographs of Delaware County residents who are currently serving in hostile areas in the world such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
Any visitor who enters the Government Center lobby is greeted by these tributes to those serving in the military today and to those who served in all our nation's wars, even those remembered only in history, Whelan said.
Joining in the dedication, hosted by Councilman Mario J. Civera Jr., a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, were County Veterans Liaison Ralph Galati, a former Air Force fighter pilot and Prisoner of War in Vietnam, who joined the staff this year to implement a veterans outreach program, and a Vietnam veteran, Tom Clay, who has been served by the county office.
An honor guard from the 78th Infantry Division, a World War II Living History Association, stood during the dedication ceremony in tribute to those who served heroically in the American armed forces.

The Pennsylvania Veterans Museum honored Councilman Dave White and dedicated The David White Room in his honor. They also thanked all of County Council for their support of the museum.
PA's Role in Lincoln's Funeral History
One of America’s largest outpourings of national grief occurred when Abraham Lincoln died on April 15, 1865. One week later, on April 21, his nine-car funeral train steamed out of Washington, D.C., stopping in the Pennsylvania cities of York, Harrisburg and Philadelphia, for what became one of most historic train journeys in American history. Lincoln’s open coffin was placed in state at the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from the evening of April 21 through the morning of April 22. 150 years later, during House session, Joseph Garrera, the executive director of the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, spoke about Lincoln’s unique relationship with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the funeral that was held in Harrisburg in the House of Representatives and the various stops made by the train throughout the state.

Where they uncovered files regarding the existence of the FBI, Nixon, and other shady Govt. peeps COINTELPRO or Counter Intelligence Program. i.e. Spying on Martin Luther King, John Lennon, Planting weed on hippies, real actual 12 step stuff on how to set up hippies. Real funny stuff. Read it on line some time. It's all been declassified. This buidling is mentioned in the Abbie Hoffman bio-film Steal This Movie.

USS Pittsburgh Tribute
During WWII, George Jock and Robert McKnight of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania served aboard the Baltimore-class heavy cruiser, USS Pittsburgh (CA-72). The ship saw intense action in the South Pacific and participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Pittsburgh is most known for towing the USS Franklin (CV-13) after the carrier was severely disabled by a Japanese strike. During a typhoon in June 1945, the Pittsburgh suffered a catastrophic structural failure when her bow was torn from the ship’s hull.

A GROUP of Ku Klux Klan members says it is planning military style combat training for the FIRST time in KKK history - exactly 60 years after the birth of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Klan bosses say an influx of military troops - existing members and new KKK recruits - will return to the US from overseas campaigns in a matter of weeks and plan to train the Loyal White Knights (LWK) faction, which has Klan members made up of men, women and children across at least three states. LWK leaders say they are preparing for a race war they believe will break out soon with the collapse of modern society, and will learn armed combat, hand-to-hand combat and survival skills. The controversial organisation is also targeting kids as part of a modern recruitment drive. Unlike members of the 20th century, today's KKK use social media and the internet alongside traditional methods like nighttime leaflet drops in local neighbourhoods to attract new members, including 13-17 year olds. These exclusive images show a recent KKK rally held at a secret location in a forest near Parkersburg, West Virginia. KKK expert Brian Levin says the main danger from the modern KKK doesn't come from the group forming an army, but from individual splinter groups with desperate new leaders trying to make a name for themselves. He said they can draw inspiration from extremist acts like a recent massacre in a Jewish Community Center in Kansas. Frazer Glenn Miller Jr., a former Klan faction leader, was arrested and charged in April with killing three people in the shootings, a 14-year-old boy with his grandfather and a woman.

Jennifer O’Mara believes there is more that unites us than divides us, and she is committed to the idea of government working to serve the people. As an elected official, she will advocate for quality education for our children, affordable healthcare for all, good job opportunities for all skill levels, and the finest care for our veterans. Her dedication to public service is deeply rooted in her own experience, and her ability to deliver practical solutions has been similarly forged by her challenging personal journey.
Jennifer O’Mara was born in Southwest Philadelphia to a career firemen and a stay-at-home mom. After her father’s suicide when she was 13 years old, Jennifer and her family moved to Prospect Park, Delaware County. At Interboro High School, a caring public school teacher recognized that Jennifer was struggling to cope with her personal tragedy and encouraged her to channel her energies in a productive direction. Jennifer became a leader in student council, where she discovered a passion for government. She was selected to serve as a student representative on the Interboro School Board, and subsequently attended a leadership camp sponsored by the Pennsylvania Association of Student Council (PASC), an organization that Jennifer still volunteers for over a decade later.
As the daughter of a single mother, and with two younger brothers at home, affording college was a significant challenge. With the help of financial aid, student loans, and by working three part-time jobs, Jennifer O’Mara was able to attend West Chester University. She earned a dual degree in history and secondary education, and became certified to teach in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Jennifer O’Mara went on to earn a Master of Liberal Arts in English and history from the University of Pennsylvania, where she has been employed for five and a half years. She currently holds the position of Assistant Director of University Stewardship, working alongside her colleagues to steward the University's top donors. Jennifer also serves on the Board of Directors for PASC, and teaches organization and personal time management to high school students at the organization’s statewide leadership training program.
Jennifer’s friends, family, and community members know her as an action-oriented advocate, who is always ready to help others. She is incredibly hard-working and always puts the needs of others first. She navigated the college financial aid process for one of her younger brothers, who has since graduated from Temple University. She has also successfully advocated with the Department of Veteran Affairs for her husband, Bradford Bitting, a combat veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient.
Jennifer and Bradford were married in August 2017, and currently reside in Springfield, Pennsylvania, with their two cats.

Magic Gardens in Philly is one of the coolest folk art installations and art spaces in any US city. Started by PA mosaic artist in the mid 90s and built onto since then, this labyrinth of glass tile metal and other mixed media elements is something not to be missed when traveling through Philadelphia's South Street district. During our visit we were lucky enough to meet Isaiah Zagar himself and catch a quick interview with this visionary genius for the video. Conneaut D-Day Reenactment
This video features a two day WWII reenactment of the D-Day invasion of Normandy in 1944. The event is staged every year in Conneaut, Ohio in late August. Represented are American, British, Canadian, French and German forces using a variety of authentic antique military equipment including planes, tanks, landing craft, trucks, jeeps, artillery, machine guns, flamethrowers and more.
