Today, let's go on a little trip to the Peralta Trail in Gold Canyon, Arizona! It's a 5-mile roundtrip hike up to a saddle with beautiful views of a petrified volcano. Enjoy!

This is an easy but very scenic 4x4 loop in the far east valley of Phoenix, Arizona. It's located just outside Gold Canyon, along Peralta Trail Road.
Be sure to pick up a BLM State Trust permit before running the trail.

Just a short slide-show and video of a trip we made up the washes from Little Mountain area of Gold Canyon AZ. This ride took place on 2/8/2016 - temp was 82 degrees. Rattle snakes are starting to come out of their winter hibernation.

After leaving behind our friends at Imperial Dam LTVA near Yuma, Arizona we headed east toward Tucson, Arizona. We took an early turn looking for boondocking and the next thing we knew we were headed north toward Phoenix. It turned out to be a wonderful wrong turn.
We found boondocking on Peralta rd in Gold Canyon, Arizona about 40 miles east of Phoenix. This is free camping on Arizona Land trust land. Arizona charges $20 for a year long pass to use and camp on any land trust area. We found a place tucked among the Saguaro cactus under the towering Superstition mountains.
We spent 12 days here as there were many places to hike and explore and it was 12 miles into nearby Apache Junction where any services could be found. The area is used heavily by locals so expect lots of traffic but that dies down as they day progresses and you usually have sunset all to yourself.

Just checking on what's out there for some future video shoots and collecting some video to practice editing with. The Peralta Trail is located on the southwest edge of the Superstition Wilderness. It stretches 6.2 miles through two diversely vegetated canyons highlighted by Weavers Needle, a 4,553' spire that towers over the landscape.

The Superstition Mountains were born inside the core of an ancient caldera, the result of a series of major eruptions that occurred 15 - 25 M years ago. Though subsequent geologic activity and erosion have obscured the caldera's appearance, evidence such as lava flow channels and columns remain today. The vertical outer walls of Peralta Canyon are remnants of the original caldera.
