Almonry Museum Evesham 06.09.11
The Almonry Museum and Heritage Centre is a museum in Evesham in Worcestershire, England. It is also referred to as The Almonry Heritage Centre, The Almonry Museum and just The Almonry. It is governed by Evesham Town Council. The focus of the museum is on local history, but it also covers history and science more broadly. The museum derives its name from the original use of the building as the almonry of the 14th-century Evesham Abbey. The museum opened within this building in 1957.
The Almonry Museum is housed in a 14th-century building that was formerly part of the Benedictine Evesham Abbey, the third largest abbey in England. The building is an almonry, meaning it was the home of the almoner, a monk whose role was to provide alms to the poor. Evesham Abbey was closed by Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, after which the Almonry became the personal home of the last Abbot, Philip Ballard. Two churches, a bell tower and a cloister arch from Evesham Abbey also survive nearby. The Almonry is a grade I listed building and was first listed in 1952. It has a part rubble and part timber framed structure with a Cotswold stone roof. Additions to the building were made in the 15th and 17th-centuries.
Following the closure of the Abbey, The Almonry has served as an ale house, offices, tea rooms and a private home. It was purchased by Evesham Borough Council in 1929 and opened as a heritage centre in 1957.

16thMar2011 70000 Britannia at Crewe for loaded test run
On a special offer Northern rail day Ranger ticket, £10 with tokens from some newspapers , I ventured to Crewe for the day to sample the workings of a busy main line junction station. plenty of action ensued, most interesting was the late departure of Britannia on its loaded test run, it left Crewe Heritage centre nearly an hour after its departure time and ran straight on to the through road next platform 12, pausing to let some bod on, then on through to collect the coaches, and then departed through platform 12 just 10 minutes later stopping briefly to let a driver off probably having given him a lift as he was knocking off( don't quote me, just guessing). I then went on to the footbridge to send a few texts and missed the arrival of 44932,which snook in almost right behind the Brit leaving. met the delightful puffernutter Lou at last. that's Lou in front of me tripod when Britannia backed through.

Dennis F8 Fire Engine with siren
Most people don't know that many British fire brigades (e.g. Leeds, Huddersfield, Durham, Birmingham - but never London) had american-style sirens fitted to their engines from the mid-1950's onwards. This is a Wakefield City Fire Brigade Dennis F8 with Francis long-rolling siren at Preston Park Fire Engine Rally in 2015. I asked the currrent owner to operate the siren to show what they sounded like.
Save Kingsthorpe Library Demo October 28th 2017
This is a video of the demonstration held on Saturday 28th October 2017.
Northampton County Council have announced plans to “redesign” library services which will see up to 28 libraries close permanently, unless community groups find the money, time and resources to run up to 21 themselves – that’s asking us to pay for our libraries twice!
Under the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964, local authorities are obliged “to provide a comprehensive and efficient library service for all persons” as a statutory service.
Volunteer-run libraries tend to be more than 70% staffed by unskilled retired people, and quite simply cannot offer the breadth of service we require for our communities. It’s not just about the books: libraries offer a range of vital services, including health visitor services, play groups, job seeker support, mental health resources, blue badges and bus pass renewals and more. When childrens centres were closed, the library took over. What happens to childrens’ services now?
Only 8 libraries are “safe”, but even in Central, the staff are being forced to reapply for their own jobs.
We have been given three terrible options for the future of libraries. Under 2 of these proposals, Kingsthorpe library will close.
County Council want to remove libraries as a statutory service from their obligations. We cannot let this happen. There must be a fourth way.
