Operation Semut, Borneo 1945: Behind Enemy Lines

Robyn van Dyk, Head of the Research Centre, and Associate Professor Christine Helliwell, Australian National University, discuss Operation Semut, a Z Special Unit secret operation in Borneo in 1945. Members of the Unit operated behind enemy lines, collecting and reporting intelligence and organising, training and arming the local indigenous Dayaks to wage guerrilla warfare against the Japanese. Rare collections of papers related to Australians who served in Z Special Unit – Operation Semut – have now been published by the Memorial online, over 10,000 items including the papers of Tom Harrisson, rare maps donated by Jack Tredrea and a detailed account by Keith Barrie. The documents along with an exhibition to open in 2018 result from a three-year ARC research partnership between the Australian War Memorial and the Australian National University (ANU).

Tugu Peringatan Perang Borneo Utara merupakan salah satu tugu yang terdapat di negeri Sabah. Tugu ini terletak di Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Tugu Peringatan Perang Borneo Utara (North Borneo War Monument) telah dibina pada 8 Mei 1923 oleh Syarikat Berpiagam Borneo Utara Bond Street (kini dikenali sebagai Jalan Gaya), Jesselton dan ia dirasmikan oleh Pengerusi Syarikat iaitu Sir Neill Malcolm.

Tujuan tugu ini dibina adalah bagi memperingati tentera British yang telah terkorban semasa Perang Dunia Pertama dan antara nama-nama tentera British yang tertulis di tugu tersebut adalah seperti :
