Philadelphia is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the fifth-most-populous in the United States. In the Northeastern United States, at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill River, Philadelphia is the economic and cultural center of the Delaware Valley, and is the only World Heritage City in the United States.
In 1682, William Penn founded the city to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. Philadelphia was one of the nation's capitals in the Revolutionary War, and served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C., was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and railroad hub that grew from an influx of European immigrants. It became a prime destination for African-Americans in the Great Migration and surpassed two million occupants by 1950.
The area's many universities and colleges make Philadelphia a top international study destination, as the city has evolved into an educational and economic hub. The city is known for its arts, culture, and history, attracting over 39 million domestic tourists in 2013. Philadelphia has more outdoor sculptures and murals than any other American city, and Fairmount Park is the largest landscaped urban park in the world. The 67 National Historic Landmarks in the city helped account for the $10 billion generated by tourism. Philadelphia is the birthplace of the United States Marine Corps, and is also the home of many U.S. firsts, including the first library (1731), first hospital (1751) and medical school (1765), first Capitol (1777), first stock exchange (1790), first zoo (1874), and first business school (1881).

Urban Exploration - Philadelphia Center City Branch Rail Tunnel
The City Branch is an abandoned stretch of submerged track which runs from Broad Street to 27th Street in the Art Museum area of Philadelphia. The since removed rail line is open to the sky as it runs parallel to Callowhill Street, but then becomes a covered tunnel at 22nd Street, where it turns northwest along Pennsylvania Avenue.
This section of track was used for freight and serviced companies such as Knickerbocker Ice Co., Bement-Pond, Rush & Muhlenberg, Wm. Sellers, the Philadelphia Grain Elevator Co., A. Whitney & Sons Car Wheel, and Baldwin Locomotive Works.
In 1900, Reading completed the depression of the City Branch, which eliminated numerous dangerous grade crossings. The City Branch continued to transport freight until 1992, when the Philadelphia Inquirer at Broad and Callowhill streets, stopped printing the newspaper.
After this, the rails were removed and nature was allowed to return to the area. Several sections have been cleared for parking in recent years, however the tunnel remains vacant.

I put a camera underneath a Trolley - Pittsburgh, PA
I've always wanted to do this, but I decided to have some fun and put my GoPro in the middle of the trolley tracks in Pittsburgh, and wait for some Trolleys to come. It definitely came out as a pretty good shot.
I know that this isn't hockey related, but I uploaded this because I thought it was cool, and wanted to show some people. Don't worry, I will continue to upload more hockey videos, and even upload some non Pittsburgh Penguin hockey videos.
* I WAS NOT TRESPASSING ON THE TRACKS, THE CAMERA WAS SET ON A CROSSWALK CONNECTING TWO STATION PLATFORMS TOGETHER! I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE TRESPASSING ON ANY RAILROAD TRACKS! *

The history of the railroad industry in the United States and the growth of the Greater Philadelphia region are inextricably linked. Philadelphia money and engineering built the national network and, from the middle of the nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth, railroads helped make and maintain Philadelphia as a “Workshop of the World,” the nation’s largest manufacturing center. Within the region, freight and passenger lines helped define industrial and residential development patterns that still remained in the early twenty-first century.
The region’s first rail freight carrier, the Leiper Railroad, began service in Delaware County in 1810. Built by Thomas Leiper (1745-1825) to link his quarry with a stream so that the stone could be transported to Philadelphia, the horse-drawn tramway was replaced by a canal in 1828. Many historians consider this to be the first true railroad in North America because all previous lines had been built in connection with temporary projects and were intended to be abandoned once the projects were completed.

Urban Exploration - ABANDONED - Trolley Streetcar Graveyard
Urban Exploration : Abandoned Trains CLICK SHOW MORE TO READ HISTORY AND DISCLAIMER
Probably my all time favorite location I ever visited. This graveyard houses over 45 Abandoned Trolley / Streetcars from Philadelphia PA, Boston Mass, Cincinnati Ohio, and Chicago Illinois. These cars are known as a PCC Streetcar with years ranging from 1936-1952 however I believe these trams were built mid 1940s. PCC stood for Presidents' Conference Committee who were part of the design of these trams. The manufacture of these trams was St. Louis Car Company and Pullman Standard and they manufactures about 5000 of these all over the world before ending operation. Westinghouse Electric, Westinghouse Air Brake Company, Canadian Westinghouse Co, and General Electric (GE) built / supllied the electrical systems and braking components for these Trams. In other countries outside the United States, St. Louis Car Company would send over the frame / parts and they would be assembled in the country they were being sent to. PCCs were still manufactures up to 1957 but were built with salvage parts as St. Louis Car Co. stopped manufacturing them in 1952. Today some PCC streetcars still remain but have been brought up to todays rules at least in the US. Philadelphia still owns about 18 of them that run on it Girard Avenue line. They were restored and modernized. The owner of this place purchased a lot of these streetcars starting in the 1980s when rail services were auctioning off there out of service PCC fleet. He also obtained these from other private organizations that had one. He has goals for these streetcars but as you will see in the pictures, a lot of them are way beyond repair. Vandalism has also increased here were windows have been busted out and theft of copper wires and parts have been taken. He does part some of them out currently. Enjoy and stay tuned for the video. The Abandoned Railroad Grade to Muleshoe Curve
I take a short hike along the abandoned grade of the New Portage Railroad to Muleshoe Curve in Blair County, PA while explaining the history of the line. The grade, which is part of the Allegheny Portage National Historic Site, was once part of the Pennsylvania Main Line of Public Works, a system of railroads, canals, and inclined plains that connected Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
