Photographing Dream Lake in Winter | Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
I decided to snowshoe up to Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado on this cold and WINDY February day after some fresh snowfall. It was absolutely beautiful! The size of the surrounding mountains, the snow whipping around everywhere, and the formations in the ice of Dream Lake were really special. In the end, I captured two images of ice patterns that I'm very happy with. Eventually, my batteries died a premature death and I had to head home. It was a good day!

WildSide 4x4 Tours : Estes Park Colorado Off Roading
Take a Colorado Ride on the Wild Side
While a Colorado car camping trip is prized for the beautiful and sometimes rugged hiking opportunities, there’s another option. In Estes Park, just outside the Rocky Mountain National Park, the 50 Campfires Team discovered Wild Side 4x4 Tours. A bit of research revealed they offer something for off-road enthusiasts at every level of adventure.
Wild Side Tour Company is a family business built on living outdoor dreams. They are proud to be the only company within 100 miles who has the permit to offer both on-road and off-road tours in the Roosevelt National Forest. Their claim is tours from “mild to wild” including photography tours in Rocky Mountain National Park, on-road and off-road tours in the national forest, and a truly wild level rock climbing and roller coaster tour.
Wild Side’s general tour season begins on May 15 each year, but starting in November they also offer winter tours in both the national forest and rocky mountain park. They can accommodate all sizes of groups from couples to large family or corporate gatherings.
One of their unique attractions is a private viewing tower modeled after a fire watch tower. It has opportunities for both indoor and rooftop views that can extend as far as 150 miles on clear days. The guides are well-educated on the areas in which they travel and do all they can to create lifetime experiences for Wild Side’s guests.
Wild Side is a perennial choice for both the list of top tour companies in Estes Park as well as Top 10 Things to do in Colorado.

The tips are truly appreciated and allow them to do the work they love so much. Amount is ultimately up to you, but most people use restaurant standards as a benchmark.
What about rain?
The tours run rain or shine. The only time they cancel a tour is for hail, ice, or thick fog for park tours. The Park Tour Trucks have zip down windows for inclement weather. The off-road trucks most are full open top trucks. For inclement weather they provide full-body suites called Frog Togs for wind and waterproof comfort.

Rocky Mountains Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about nature park Rocky Mountains in the USA.
The Rocky Mountains National Park is one of the most unique and impressive natural paradises in the United States Of America. It covers an area of a thousand square kilometres and was inaugurated in 1915.The picturesque Bear Lake lies within a forested area and is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the park. At high altitude, several paths such as the Nature Trail lead through the lake’s natural landscape. The idyllic beauty is truly spellbinding and it is not surprising that Bear Lake is the most popular photo shot of the entire park. It was discovered that twelve thousand years ago prehistoric Indians hunted within the Rocky Mountains. The legendary culture of the Nasazi Indians originated around two thousand years ago and left its traces in what is today the national park. Alberta Falls in the south of Glacier Gorge is one of the park’s most popular sightseeing destinations where white masses of foaming water race down several levels into the valley below. The road from Glacier Gorge winds its way in a northerly direction past Glacier Basin and the eastern park entrance close to Estes Park. In this region the Rocky Mountains are at their most beautiful and the landscape in the area of Horseshoe Park is reminiscent of the exciting and colourful Wild West of old. The vast wilderness in the west of the USA has survived in the Rocky Mountains right up to the present day and is a fascinating tribute to the amazing natural world of North America.

A Drive through Rocky Mountain National Forest | Lots of Elk
One of the first things we did on our Estes Park vacation with Grand Kids was taking a drive into the National Forest. Even though the kids had been in vehicles for many hours the week prior as we traveled, the beauty of the park captured their attention.

Camping Trip to Custer, SD - Estes Park, CO - Ouray, CO
This is a photo / video log of our (trailer) camping trip. We visited Bailey, CO, Custer State Park, Mt. Rushmore, biked the Mikelson Trail, saw buffalos, deer, and other critters. Next we headed to Estes Park with the intention of seeing Rocky Mountain National Park. Wound up getting caught in Colorado's flood and were trapped there for three days. A single road through RMNP opened up and we escaped to a campsite on Shadow Mountain Lake in the Arapaho National Recreation Area. Had a couple days of good weather / good kayaking.
From there we headed south to Ouray, CO for some off rd. sightseeing.
