After taking a break for 3 days of making and editing 3 videos, I decided to visit the Zoo...
Phuket Zoo and several of the other animal attractions around the island give you an unrivalled opportunity to get far closer to some of the world's most powerful and majestic creatures than you would have thought possible. It is important to realise that the Thai version of a zoo is very different from the western interpretation. With the animals being encouraged to perform for large audience, they can be more like circuses than zoos, and this distinction can be jarring if you're not prepared for it.
The tropics and exotic animals are intrinsically linked, with crocodiles, tigers, monkeys, elephants, birds, butterflies and snakes all here in Phuket, some performing fun shows while others enjoy a more sedate lifestyle. The opportunity to get up close to these remarkable creatures is certainly worth your while in terms of the sheer 'wow' factor.

This was truly one of the coolest experiences I've ever had in my life. These animals are absolutely magnificent. Tiger Kingdom in Phuket, Thailand is a really AWESOME place.
Most of the animals have been born there and are VERY Comfortable with people. For the most part, they eat chicken twice a day... not people ;-)
The location is pretty close the the center of Phuket so it was only about 30-40 minutes from the pier on the east side of the island of Phuket and it is only about 30 minutes from Patong beach which, as most people know, is on the west side of the island and arguably the Most touristy spot in Phuket.
The local neighborhood also allowed us the opportunity to stop and get some street food afterward. I nice contrast in price as opposed on the touristy prices of Tiger Kingdom.
Is it overpriced??
No, not really.
When I think about it, I would much rather pay extra and have no distracting thoughts about these beautiful animals being even the slightest bit mis-treated.
I can almost guarantee you that these animals are Living The Dream!
All the areas are very clean as are the tigers. The trainers are truly like brothers with these animals - growing up with them every day.
While some of you might think this video is a bit long, I wanted to include as much of the footage that I took so you can get the best idea of what you really get for your money.
Meaning: you will spend maybe an extra 5-10 minutes over the length of this video being with these tigers.
Also, it is VERY SAFE - I have already had folks asking me, Were you scared? Honestly, I never felt afraid. I think Gracie was a bit fearful at first but warmed up. I can understand why some might be a bit on edge. These animals weight about 300 pounds (~150 Kg) and basically ALL muscle.
I hope you enjoy this.
One final thing I will say. No matter HOW good the quality of the video or the photos you might see, there is Nothing like being there and touching the Tigers' fur and feeling their huge paws.

Phuket Zoo Killed Baby Dumbo
In 2018, CWI visited the Phuket Zoo to perform a welfare check on the animals we found there. We were horrified by what we saw.
Three elephants were held hostage there chained by their legs, including a baby elephant (Dumbo) who was 2 years old at the time. In this video, we show the plight of elephants at Phuket Zoo and the horrors they must endure.
Sadly, Dumbo recently passed away after enduring horrific neglect and suffering because of the zoo. He was found to be malnourished and was ordered by local officials to receive veterinary care at a regional elephant center. However, before the transfer could take place, both of Dumbo's hind legs broke under the weight of his body due to malnourishment. He suffered that way for three days before anyone noticed.
He was then relocated to the hospital, where he sadly passed away before knowing freedom.

NEVER engage in cruel animal tourism. NEVER visit Phuket Zoo or other places where animals are abused for profit. Be EXTREMELY wary of ANY location in Thailand that offers animal experiences. If handling, riding, bathing, or breeding are taking place, the zoo or sanctuary is engaging in animal cruelty. End of story.
