Macy's Fireworks Display: 'It Begins With a Spark' (Thursday) The 37th Macy's fireworks show will take place over the Hudson River, beginning about 9:25 p.m. The best viewing sites in Manhattan are on the West Side, along the southbound lanes of the West Side Highway, from 14th to 59th Streets and some side streets between 11th and 12th Avenues; and viewing along some sections on Pier 84 (from 44th Street). DeWitt Clinton Park, between 52nd and 54th Streets and 11th and 12th Avenue, will be open to viewers with disabilities. Waterfront locations in New Jersey with unobstructed views of the Hudson also offer good sites. The fireworks show, which the singer Usher helped to develop, features a recorded score of contemporary settings of patriotic music as well as pop and rock music. For the first time, the Empire State Building will also be featured in the act, with lights synchronized to the fireworks. The show will be broadcast on WNBC, Channel 4, in New York, beginning at 8 p.m., with performances by Mariah Carey, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Tim McGraw; the actor Nick Cannon — also Mariah Carey's husband — is the host. Fleet Week is returning to New York!
The United States Navy has announced its schedule of events and participating ships for Fleet Week 2019. Beth Baker of the U.S. Navy joins Richard Solomon to outline the numerous free activities that are planned.
The festivities will start with the Parade of Ships.
In Manhattan, Pier 88, there will be the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, the USS New York (LPD-21) plus the HMCS Glace Bay from Canada.
Also in Manhattan at Pier 86 will be USCGC Lawrence O. Lawson (WPC 1120) from Cape May, New Jersey.
In Brooklyn: the USS Hue City (CG65) arriving on Saturday May 25th.
In Staten Island, the USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109), an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer along with the USS Milwaukee (LCS 5), the USCGC Katherin Walker (WLM 552) and the USCGC Campbell (WMEC 909) will be available for tours.

USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63)
The supercarrier USS Kitty Hawk, formerly CVA-63, is the second naval ship named after Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the site of the Wright brothers' first powered airplane flight. Kitty Hawk was both the first and last active ship of her class, and the last oil fired aircraft carrier in service with the United States Navy.
Kitty Hawk was laid down by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation, Camden, New Jersey, 27 December 1956; and launched 21 May 1960, sponsored by Mrs. Camilla F. McElroy, wife of Secretary of Defense Neil H. McElroy; and commissioned 21 April 1961 at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Captain William F. Bringle in command.

Greenpoint is the northernmost neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, in the U.S. state of New York. It is bordered on the southwest by Williamsburg at the Bushwick Inlet, on the southeast by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and East Williamsburg, on the north by Newtown Creek and Long Island City, Queens at the Pulaski Bridge, and on the west by the East River.
The neighborhood has a large Polish immigrant and Polish-American community, containing many Polish restaurants, markets, and businesses, and it has often been referred to as Little Poland.
Originally farmland – many of the farm owners' family names, such as Meserole (Messerole) and Calyer, are current street names – the residential core of Greenpoint was built on parcels divided during the 19th century, with rope factories and lumber yards lining the East River to the west, while the northeastern section along the Newtown Creek through East Williamsburg became an industrial maritime area.
Greenpoint has long held a reputation of being a working class and immigrant neighborhood, and it initially attracted families and workers with its abundance of factory jobs and longshoreman or dock work. Since the early 2000s, a building boom in the neighborhood, especially of multifamily dwellings, has made the neighborhood increasingly a center of nightlife and gentrification. There have also been efforts to reclaim the rezoned Greenpoint / Williamsburg East River waterfront for recreational use and also to extend a continuous promenade into the Newtown Creek area.Greenpoint is part of Brooklyn Community District 1 and its primary ZIP Code is 11222. It is patrolled by the 94th Precinct of the New York City Police Department.

RMS Titanic was British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City. Of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard, more than 1,500 died, making the sinking one of modern historys deadliest peacetime commercial marine disasters. RMS Titanic was the largest ship afloat at the time she entered service and was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners operated by the White Star Line. Lifeboats of the RMS Titanic
The lifeboats of the RMS Titanic played a crucial role in the disaster of 14–15 April 1912. One of the ship's legacies was that she had too few lifeboats to evacuate all those on board. The 20 lifeboats that she did carry could only take 1,178 people, even though there were about 2,223 on board. Titanic had a maximum capacity of 3,300 passengers.
All 20 lifeboats were used, loading between 12:40–2:10 a.m., although Collapsible Boat A floated off deck partially submerged, and Collapsible Boat B floated away upside down minutes before the ship upended and sank.

The Bridge:
The Mystic River Bascule Bridge is a bascule bridge spanning the Mystic River in Mystic, Connecticut in the United States. It carries vehicle and foot traffic directly into the tourist district of town via 33 ft-wide Main Street (U.S. Route 1).
The Strauss Heel-trunnion type bridge was designed by former Otis Elevator Company Chief Engineer Thomas Ellis Brown of New York and built in 1920 by the J. E. FitzGerald Construction Company of New London, Connecticut, according to its historical marker. Its movable span is 85 ft (26 m) wide, 218 ft (66 m) long, weighs 660 short tons (589 long tons; 599 t), and employs two 230 short tons (205 long tons; 209 t) concrete-filled counterweights. Until 1928, the bridge carried streetcars of the Groton and Stonington Street Railway.
It is operated by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and offers and opens for approximately five minutes around 2,200 times per year, carrying an average daily traffic of 11,800. Driven by two 1,400 pounds (640 kg) 40 horsepower (30 kW) direct current motors, its span is greased and inspected every 100 openings or two weeks during the winter. From May 1 to October 31 the bridge opens hourly during daylight at 40 minutes past the hour and on demand.
Mystic is a village and census-designated place (CDP) in New London County, Connecticut, in the United States. The population was 4,205 at the 2010 census.[1] Mystic has no independent government because it is not a legally recognized municipality in the state of Connecticut. Rather, Mystic is located within the towns of Groton (west of the Mystic River, and also known as West Mystic) and Stonington (east of the Mystic River).

Historically, Mystic was a leading seaport of the area, and the story of Mystic's nautical connection is told at Mystic Seaport, the nation's largest maritime museum,[citation needed] which has preserved a number of sailing ships (most notably the whaleship Charles W. Morgan) and seaport buildings. The village is located on the Mystic River, which flows into Long Island Sound, providing access to the sea. The Mystic River Bascule Bridge crosses the river in the center of the village. According to the Mystic River Historical Society, the name Mystic is derived from the Pequot term missi-tuk, describing a large river whose waters are driven into waves by tides or wind.

Copyright protection secures a person's right to his or her first-to-invent claim of the original invention in question, highlighted in Article I, Section 8, Clause 8 of the United States Constitution, which gives the following enumerated power to the United States Congress:
In 1641, the first patent in North America was issued to Samuel Winslow by the General Court of Massachusetts for a new method of making salt. On April 10, 1790, President George Washington signed the Patent Act of 1790 (1 Stat. 109) into law proclaiming that patents were to be authorized for any useful art, manufacture, engine, machine, or device, or any improvement therein not before known or used. On July 31, 1790, Samuel Hopkins of Pittsford, Vermont became the first person in the United States to file and to be granted a patent for an improved method of Making Pot and Pearl Ashes. The Patent Act of 1836 (Ch. 357, 5 Stat. 117) further clarified United States patent law to the extent of establishing a patent office where patent applications are filed, processed, and granted, contingent upon the language and scope of the claimant's invention, for a patent term of 14 years with an extension of up to an additional 7 years. However, the Uruguay Round Agreements Act of 1994 (URAA) changed the patent term in the United States to a total of 20 years, effective for patent applications filed on or after June 8, 1995, thus bringing United States patent law further into conformity with international patent law. The modern-day provisions of the law applied to inventions are laid out in Title 35 of the United States Code (Ch. 950, sec. 1, 66 Stat. 792).

Rochester () is a city on the southern shore of Lake Ontario in western New York. With a population of 208,046 residents, Rochester is the seat of Monroe County and the third most populous city in New York state, after New York City and Buffalo.
