It's a fun mountain with some technical parts where inexperienced hikers can struggle a little bit like my dear friend Shania haha. The locals were very friendly and helped us find the path to the mountain :-) Don't be shy, Ask for help!

Pieter Both is the second highest mountain of Mauritius, at 820 metres tall. The mountain is shorter than Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire by eight metres.

PIETER BOTH is the second highest mountain in Mauritius with only 820m high. PURE hiking with professional hiking equipments. Very nice hiking and also very dangerous.
GRAND GLACIS - my first hiking without ropes but only hand and feets, got 5 wasp stings at once, we took the most difficult way (no path at all) pure and very intense forest. we were lost for about 1hr, we came out of that big forest at 5:30pm. This was a real adventure.

Pieter Both Mountain LET'S Hike. Hiking up takes only one hour. If you want to enjoy clicking photographs and climbing with breaks, the hike may take additional half hour. Descending may take half to one hour only. Every Climbers and Hiking Community should climb the Pieter Both Mountain once in their life time. The pleasure to discover the peak is really extraordinary experience.
RECOMMENDATION TO ALL SUMMIT CLIMBERS's ONLY. Climbers are highly recommended NOT to try to climb to the head of the Pieter Both Mountain. All the iron rungs ( Barreaux de fer) on which you hold yourself to climb the peak is all rusted. It is very unsafe for normal climbers. Professionals may climb the peak with professional equipment and ropes. Recommendation posted on 070112.

Pieter Both Mountain, Mauritius. Well, almost.
After reading that Pieter Both, the second highest summit in Mauritius, has a via ferrata to the summit - I decided to take some VF gear up with me. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the VF is no longer there. It is always a shame to miss a summit by around 40m - but it was absolutely worth it.
The approach is quite technical, so not a route for people who are less experienced or not comfortable with heights.
Pieter Both mountain
Pieter Both, 820M, is the second highest mountain in Mauritius. Local stories and myths are numerous. The most popular story is that a milkman once fell asleep behind a rock while hiding from the rain. It was nighttime ahen he woke up to the sounds of singing and dancing of fairies. Upon noticing his presence, the fairies made him promise never to reveal their existence.
However, the milkman could not keep his words. He narrated the occurence to villagers and hence was turned into a stone. Viewed from a distance, the Pieter Both summit can indeed look like a human face.
I live in the village down the valley - Creve Coeur. My dad and uncles have ascented the mountain several times. Hence it was a must for me to try record the view from above. My late grandma was as eager as me to successfully have this aerial view of Pieter Both summit.
