John thinks he may have discovered his true calling in Hartford, but don't worry parents, your children are safe. We won't let John get his CDL! But we won't stop him from future geocaching (but he will buy hiking boots before he does it again!), or from trying to coach the Dream Team dancers. This is an old river town, so sometimes it's tough to sort the facts from the myths. Also facts: You can absorb late 19th century family life at Villa Louis, sympathize with the British and American soldiers who fought the only Wisconsin battle of the War of 1812, contemplate the lives of Native Americans by visiting the Indian Effigy Mounds, and then consider the history of the entire universe with the Starsplitters! After that, rejoin life in the early 21st century and eat, shop, quilt, play cards, gaze at the Mississippi, and go to Mass at the oldest Catholic parish in Wisconsin.
John Gurda told us that Prairie du Chien means field of the dog. Since John McGivern took Spanish in high school instead of French, he thought it meant a prairie of chins. See why we need John Gurda?

This fishing opener, anglers are taking to small lakes and rivers as the vigil for ice out continues.

Balloon Mom Saw UFO (Balloon Boy Parody)
The balloon boy hoax occurred on October 15, 2009 in Fort Collins, Colorado, United States, when a couple allowed a gas balloon filled with helium to float away then claimed that their six-year-old son Falcon was inside it. National Guard helicopters and local police were dispatched to search air & ground. It turned out that it was a hoax when the young boy declared in a live TV interview that the stunt was done for a show. The parents went to jail (90 days & 20 days) and ordered to pay $36,000 restitution.
This is my parody of the story. Just a silly activity for fun and to test the special effects of my new camcorder, Canon DC40.

The MD and VA DNR recommend that you do not release snakeheads alive since they are an invasive species, but you are allowed to release them alive if you feel its the right thing to do. As you've seen in all my videos I always release my fish alive, I hate killing anything but I was just following the DNR's advice. Off camera I actually drove the knife through its cranium so it was alrdy dead. These types of fish move even after dead like in this link And I wanted to take it home to eat but didn't have a bag with me so I just threw it back for the crawfish to eat :P

Overview - Another tough day out on the water. My subscribers struggled the day before when the cold front moved in, and the majority of the field struggled at the tournament today with the conditions giving the bass lockjaw. Out of 35 teams, more than half weighed in 0 or 1 fish.
My buddy Joel did an awesome job putting us on some quality fish first thing in the morning. We fished shallow grass around low tide and got tons of blow ups on the ribbit toads. We only converted one fish but as the bites slowed down we decide to make a run and explore different water.
The rest of the day we struggled as we tried fishing points, rocks, and shallow grass adjacent to deep drop-offs. When the tide finally came in we made a move into a canal that's too shallow to fish during low tide. The water was clear enough that we were able to see dozens of 2-5 lb bass swimming around.
There was an easy 22 lb bag swimming in there but we could not get any bites despite trying a plethora of baits including shakeyheads, senkos, small jerkbaits, small crankbaits, frogs, toads, grubs, and others.
I did manage to get one bite that I missed punching through the heavy mats with a 1.25 ounce tungsten weight. The interesting thing about the canal was that the grass mats were LOADED with crawfish. And I mean absolutely loaded.
